Ahh there you go again, defining who's ignorant and who isn't. I don't watch a lot of TV but I know no Fox host has come close to anything the misfits at MSLSD have. They criticize and disagree but can do it in a civil manner, something you always cry for!

Can you imagine if a host at Fox made fun of a family like the Clintons or the Kerrys for having an adopted black grandchild?? And I'm 100% sure no one there has ever advocated for someone to crap down someone's throat and urinate in their eyes.

OK, I went back an watched the clip of Melissa Harris-Perry and didn't hear her say anyting about crapping down someone's throat or urinating in their eyes. I did hear her comment on how interesting a potential future wedding of North West and Mitt's adopted black grandchild would be. Another commentator suggested that the Romney group photo seemed characteristic of the racial diversity of the Republican Party. Insensitive? Yep. Uncalled for? Absolutely. Should she apologize? No question. Incidently, she did. When I searched for the clip I had to wade through a page or so of posts talking about her apology both on air and to the Romney family. Should she be diciplined by her network? That is the crux of the matter, isn't it? I believe she should, and suspect she will. You said there is a double standard for liberals and conservatives, and that she will get a pass because she is the former. I call BS. Why? Because even your examples you listed several MSNBC personalities that have been fired or suspended because of stupid things they said on the air. All of the people in the clips I provided are still spouting ignorant crap every day on Fox News with no consequences.

The first dude, I don't know his name, is talking about how some study on racial equality didn't apply to the United States because here we have Italians marrying Irish so we are somehow as a society beyond racism. The second, Liz Hasselbeck talks about how Oprah "undermines racism," which is just so stupid and purposely provacative that it doesn't even merit comment. Megyn Kelly pleads to children not to listen to the disgusting rantings of a black reporter who suggests that it is OK for families of other races to tell them a fictional character is of their own race. Her subsequent apology was no apology at all, but a "I was just joking" comment. Ignorant AND gutless. Finally, the idiot expert Fox News dug up who suggested that Trayvon Martin died because he was somehow asking for it because of his "attitude," which was apparently on prominent display as he was walking through a neighborhood drinking a can of iced tea in the rain. Complete idocy all around, and all of these people are still regularly on Fox News (some have their own shows). And you are right, I Googled Fox News Racist Comments, but there were far more than the few examples I listed. There were pages upon pages upon pages of them, more often than not made by the same handful of dunces who continue to pollute the airwaves with their idiotic racist nonsese without any consequences whatsoever. Don't even get me started on the link that talked about the posts responding to news reports on Fox News, and some of their hate filled viewers who just had to hang their stupidity out for the whole world to see. One of my favorites was the one that after Travon Martin verdict was read, a respondant suggested that the "(N word)s are trying to take control of this country. Buy up all the guns you can white America." There is a double standard ... only that standard is that Fox News can say any kind of racist, hateful, riduclous nonsense that they want to and when they do that on MSNBC, there are consequences.

Journalism hardly exists anymore and I don't really associate it with either network. However, O'Reilly as a historian, author and commentator is the closest you'd find to a journalist.

He does have the extensive journalistic background as the host of Inside Edition.

I think what they did was terrible. No denying it. Bashir should have just called Palin an airhead and left it at that.

He got fired for saying what he said. That should end the debate about who gets a pass and who doesn't. If he worked for Fox News, they'd be giving him a show in prime time BECAUSE he said something that got headlines.

Here is his statement following his resignation ...

"After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon further reflection, and after meeting with the president of MSNBC, I have tendered my resignation. It is my sincere hope that all of my colleagues at this special network will be allowed to focus on the issues that matter without the distraction of myself or my ill-judged comments."

I trust you do not need me to connect the dots for you. I believe being asked to resign from a national televised broadcast is public condemnation enough. Meanwhile, Hannity, O'Reilly and that dimwit blond Megyn Kelly continue to soldier on bringing good holsome news to the American people.

OK, your turn for an example. Give me an example of one time Chris Matthews called someone racist because they didn't agree with a policy of the president. If I'm reading your post right, you are saying he does it all the time when he finds someone in disagreement with a presidental policy. I'm asking for a single example.

We are both talking about the woman who was ranting over what race Santa was, right? I'll take your word for it.

Wow...just wow...sexist much?

Should we start throwing around words like dimwit or bimbo (another favorite of FNC haters for the women on FNC) to apply to the women on MSNBC? To the women in the DNC?

EDIT: PS : Just for the record, I actually very rarely tune into FNC and have seen more of CNN and MSNBC of late but even still have stayed away from network news as much as possible

Well, considering you didn't fulfill your end (your example never used the word fired and did use the word resignation...also, you never showed any public condemnation by the powers that be at the network...as you put it, you have to connect the dots...doing that is not exactly a public condemnation)..but heck...its the holidays and I will be magnanimous.

Morning Joe

December 20, 2013

7:34 a.m. Eastern

CHRIS MATTHEWS: See there’s a problem here. There's a conflict on the right, hard right, nasty right. If you make fun of people for being unemployed or being underemployed and you get food stamps and stuff like that. Help them make more money. Are you against the working poor, people catching the bus at 6:30 in the morning and work 40-50 hours a week? Are they bad guys or good guys? They’re good guys. Treat them like good guys. You can't make enemies of all the working poor and the poor and say we don't like the bums or the ones with fancy fingernails or whatever the hell they’re talking about these days, these racists. Or you’re going to help the people out that are trying to work and you got to take sides with the worker bees. Okay, you may not have a great education but you're going to work every day. And you're showing up. You're doing your job. We’re going to give you a decent wage. That’s a good value for Republicans.

MSNBC's Hardball host Chris Matthews won this award for a March 20 diatribe in which he smeared the Tea Party as a bunch of intolerant racist yahoos, as he interviewed author Christopher Parker:

“What does your study tell you about the nature of the racial piece here of the Tea Party?...Is it sort of a resumption of the Old South, of the way things were before the Civil War, for example? Is it like that old dreamy nostalgia you get in the old movies, Gone With the Wind? Is it that kind of America they want to bring back or what? When there were no gays, where blacks were slaves, Mexicans were in Mexico? I mean, is this what they want?”

Giving Matthews a real fight for first place in this category was — Chris Matthews (of course). On the May 15 edition of MSNBC's PoliticsNation, Matthews argued that criticism of President Obama's policies was rooted in racism:

“The problem is there are people in this country — maybe 10%, I don’t know what the number, maybe 20% on a bad day — who want this President to have an asterisk next to his name in the history books, that he really wasn’t President....They can’t stand the idea that he is President, and a piece of it is racism. Not that somebody in one racial group doesn’t like somebody in another racial group. So what? It is the sense that the white race must rule. That’s what racism is. And they can’t stand the idea that a man who is not white is President.”

From Matthews interview with Obama:
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Let me ask you about something else. This is a Twitter question we got from C. Wilhelm's his name. He said, "What can we do to stop the GOP, the Republicans, from rigging the states, rigging the votes, state by state, to disenfranchise voters and destroy our democracy?" Thirty six states right now led by Republican legislatures have been trying to make it difficult for minority people to vote, especially in big cities and older people. Everybody knows the game. Republicans often admit the game to deny people the vote. How can-- well, what's your reaction

I'm a sexist because I called her a woman? Since that is an indisputable fact, I don't see how that would make me a sexist. Or was it because I called her a dimwit? That is not gender-specific term, so I don't see how that is sexist either. I didn't call her a bimbo, so that is you just putting words in my mouth. Since both of my discriptions are so obviously true, I don't get what you are arguing about. Afterall, Obama was a lawyer, too, prior to becoming a Senator and the President of the United States. Does that mean he isn't an idiot? Because I've met a lot of dumb lawyers in my life, but if you are setting the bar at no lawyer can be a dummy, then we'll go with that. I can probably go back through this thread and find about 200 examples of when he was called stupid, or an idiot, or a dumbass or any number of other delightful colloquialisms referring to his lack of intelligence. Funny, I didn't see you leaping to his defense on any single one of those occassions ... weird. I'm sure it is just a coincidence and that you were otherwise occupied every single one of those times because obviously you are completely unbias in the administration of your rule not suggesting that any lawyer is anything but brilliant.

Seriously?!?!?!?! How disingenuous can you be? Do you not recall your use of the phrase
and that dimwit blond Megyn Kelly

Not to mention you still hold by dimwit as "obviously true" and then talk about putting word in mouths...where have I said that about President Obama? Why do I have to rise to the defense of his intelligence to everyone who attacks it...I didn't see you stand up to people like Maddow and her guests constantly gigling over using the phrase tea-bagger on her show? I didn't see you defend W's intelligence when he to has advanced degrees and flew fighter jets. I love it when hypocrites call others hypocritical.

I called her a dimwit. That is not sexist in any way, shape or form. If it helps prove my point, use this example:

Mitt Romney is a dimwit
John Boenner is a dimwit
Ted Cruz is a dimwit

See, they are all men. The word is not sexist at all. You threw bimbo in there, and I never said that. In fact, I'm not sure I've heard that word used since the 1970s, but that is beside the point. You are trying to make me look like a sexist because I think Megyn Kelly is a moron, just like I think Sarah Palin is a moron and Michelle Bachmann is a moron. But, when I use the term moron, I don't want you to think that I'm being sexist, so let me end with this -- I think that most all of the tea baggers are morons. Wait, that might be taken as sexist, because there are so few women in that wing of the party (kind of sexist if you ask me, but that is beside the point). Oh, fuck it. I wasn' tbeing sexist unless you are talking about me using some "phrase" of which I'm unaware. If so, please enlighten me.

In your haste to make your point, you read right past mine. Advanced degrees and flying fighter jets does not mean that a person isn't clueless. You didn't see me defending Bush's intelligence because I thought he was a complete and total stupid ass. I'm not the one making a huge deal about which phrase I used to describe someone who I think is an idiot. If you think the woman who ranted about what race a fictional person on national television is a genius, that's your business. I think what she said is stupid and I think just about every time I've ever seen her on televsion she has said something equally as stupid. I thought instead of apologizing for being a racially incensitive dummy, she acted as if she was just joking about the whole Santa is white business, which makes her a wimp and a dummy.

That's good stuff right there. Loved the candor.

When I heard her attempting to "spin" the commentary off as being comedic in nature, it was a, "wow, not only is she a bit bat-shit crazy, she doesn't even stand by her own convictions", while insulting our intelligence moment. It was really, really apparent how disingenuous she was being.

I hope that wasn't directed at me. I'm actually a bit of a mixed bag (years registered as a democrat or republican are roughly split; card carrying member of NRA, pro-choice, fiscally conservative, socially liberal, etc., etc.).

I just think all the media at both extremes are shameful (as in if you don't think so, what the fuck is wrong with you).

EDIT: With the marijuana comment (which is probably not appropriate, but certainly not uncalled for due to aforementioned candor), it's most likely GoIrish41.

More New Taxes and Fees: How You’ll Pay for Obamacare in 2014

"Obamacare contains 18 specific tax hikes, mandates, or penalties that cost Americans money, and three new ones take effect in 2014. This is only the beginning—watch how two of these taxes get worse in the years to come.

1. Individual Mandate Tax. The individual mandate is designed to strong-arm individuals into purchasing government-approved health insurance or facing a tax penalty. In 2014, the penalty for not purchasing insurance will be either $95 or 1 percent of annual income (whichever is greater). Very few, if any, people will end up paying just $95, because individuals with an annual income of only $9,500 or less would likely qualify for Medicaid or a hardship exemption from the mandate. The mandate increases drastically in coming years, rising to $325 or 2 percent of income in 2015, and $695 or 2.5 percent of income in 2016—whichever is greater.

2. Health Insurer Tax. One of the largest tax increases in the law is an annual fee imposed on health insurers based on their share of the market. It is estimated to raise $8 billion in 2014 alone. The tax will more than likely be passed on to consumers through premium increases. An actuarial analysis by the consulting firm Oliver Wyman projects that in 2014, this tax will increase premiums by 1.9 percent to 2.3 percent. And the impact will be greater in later years as the tax increases.

3. Reinsurance Fee. This fee isn’t included in the list of 18 tax hikes, but it’s another one that will impact the cost of insurance. Health insurers will have to pay the temporary fee on group health plans to help spread the cost of the covering those in the individual market, inside and outside Obamacare’s exchanges. The fee begins in 2014, costing $63 per covered person and decreasing in 2015 and 2016. Like most taxes and fees, the result will likely be higher insurance premiums.

Sneak Peek at 2015: Employer Mandate. By law, the employer mandate was supposed to begin in 2014, but the Obama Administration delayed enforcing it until 2015. The employer mandate forces employers with 50 or more full-time employees (defined as those working 30 hours per week) to offer government-approved health coverage or pay a penalty. The penalty varies—either $2,000 per employee after the first 30 workers, or $3,000 per employee receiving subsidized coverage in the exchange, whichever is less.

Regardless of the delay, many businesses have already adapted by reducing hours for their employees—falling under the threshold to avoid both the cost of coverage and the penalty."

and the hits just keep coming...

A US federal judge has reaffirmed an Obama administration policy granting officials the authority to search Americans' laptops, citing a controversial premise that makes citizens within 100 miles of the border eligible for a police check.

No warrant boys and girls...We officially have a DMZ, well really a DCZ ...De-constitution Zone...WTF??? how long before we do the same to Chicago? Anybody got an issue with that?

Evidence Obamacare Isn’t Lowering Healthcare Costs

Evidence Obamacare Isn’t Lowering Healthcare Costs

It is becoming increasingly apparent that the Affordable Care Act — known colloquially as Obamacare — will not solve rising health insurance costs. Theoretically, it would seem that ensuring more Americans had access to health insurance coverage would mean that more people would forgo expensive emergency room care in favor of less-expensive appointments with doctors and nurse practitioners. This logic was often employed by those defending the healthcare reform while the legislation was being debated in 2009. But that reasoning was “sometimes a misleading motivator for the Affordable Care Act,” Jonathan Gruber, a health economist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, told the Washington Post. “The law isn’t designed to save money. It’s designed to improve health, and that’s going to cost money.”

Hints that the Affordable Care Act would not be a motivator for lower healthcare costs came in the September release of a report published in the journal Health Affair. Actuaries for at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or CMS, reasoned that while healthcare costs have indeed decreased in the past several years, there is no sign that the Affordable Care Act was responsible for drop in healthcare-related costs. Rather, the economic recession has been cited as the culprit, which seems reasonable given that costs are expected to jump 6.1 percent in 2014, the year the individual insurance mandate is implemented.
