Outside of Stanford (3) has hasn’t been at a place longer than 2 season. Maybe this is normal for a young coach (37) but I wonder what the deal is.

Seems like he's ambitious and well-regarded and he's had a lot of good opportunities come his way. Aside from getting fired at WKU (kinda quick) and landing at Utah State, every move has been a clear step up from his prior job.
Has several young kids, though, IIRC. His wife's got to be sick of moving. And hard to see Minnesota as a long-term destination with Fleck as hot a commodity as he is. Figure they'll rent.

Yeah, I’ve never heard anything bad about him but just I looked over his resume and was like “damn dude loves to get around”
I’m neutral in regards to his coaching acumen, haven’t really hear any good or bad things about him
and was really wishing him well at WKU but sometimes you have to fail to grow so I hope nothing but the best for him at Minny.

I could see Sanford being the next HC at Minnesota when Fleck takes the Michigan job (half joking).

They beat an overrated Auburn team that got to much credit for beating Bama. That loss was #4 for Auburn. Don't get me wrong. Happy the Gophers won, but with three losses, Auburn should never have been ranked #9.

Losses to UF, LSU and UGA. A January bowl win, something ND fans haven't seen since the Clinton Administration.

I think ND can beat UF. They already lost to UGA on the road. LSU probably handles ND with relative ease.

PJ Fleck is like everything else. Make up your mind, run to the pole of your choice and stick with whatever the agenda is.

as well all things the truth lies somewhere in the middle. generally one pole is ran to first and those people want you to know about their pole which brings the people at other pole out of hiding to defend.

Overrated Auburn gave THIS LSU team their closest game of the year. I think they're a pretty good team, but if others wish to label them as overrated I suppose it stands to question who is under them.

PJ Fleck continues to intrigue me, not necessarily as an "option" for ND in the future, but just as a guy from the Midwest whose career trajectory seems to be arrow up right now and all before the age of 40.

I doubt he's going to be an Minnesota in the long term. Very interested to see where he goes next.

I see Fleck and Minn as a one year trick pony. Very underestimated. My guess is playing PSU 9 more times would result in PSU winning 9 of 10.

I have no idea of Auburn's mindset but I could see similar arrogance there. After all, who outside of OSU has ever given a SEC grief? I could see them thinking they would just show up and it would be over.

Next year I dont see anyone taking them for granted.

Granted their schedule isnt really interesting at all. Wis at week 6 and Mich week 7 (not sure how Mich will be with brand new QB) is the only teams with a remote pulse they play all year. No PSU, no OSU regular season. Im sure Minn starts off preseason ranked well more than they should so losing to Wis still ends the season with 1 maybe 2 losses going into the B10 conf game which they will get squashed.

So 10-2 regualr season via playing absolutely one (possibly two) teams with a pulse on the whole crap sandwich schedule. Nice.

Why are you overlooking Iowa? They will be a tough out for Minnesota even if they are at home. @MSU won't be a cakewalk, even if Sparty has been down the past few years; EL a tough place to play and I don't think it would surprise many to see Dantonio put at least one more solid team together at some point. Also interested to see if Nebraska takes a step forward in year three under Frost, which is usually the year that coaches see the fruits of their labor after a tough rebuild (ND, 2012). That one is at Memorial Stadium, last game of the year, so I would also say that has some challenges.

To blatantly say Minnesota is a 10-2 team seems like a big time stretch to me. It's hard for the top teams in the country to win every game they should on paper. Look at OSU/Purdue, Oklahoma/KSU...just to name a couple. No one outside of Minnesota would say the Gophers are on par with those programs. So I'm not sure I agree with you.

My biggest fear is that PJ Fleck is actually the next big thing and that doesn't seem like a stretch... And he ends up at Michigan to start the 2021 season.

If Michigan loses to Washington and OSU, and either 1 other regular season loss or bowl loss, there's no way Harbaugh stays one way or another.

That's a great job and one where Fleck has mad history in the state.

How do we know PJ Fleck even wants the ND job. He could easily pull and Urban Meyer. Everyone thought Meyer was coming to ND and he ended up at Florida.

Fleck at Michigan makes a lot of sense and scares me, too. His personality fits there.

I guess I can't say for certain, but it's been one of those poorly kept secrets for multiple years now. Whether that is through his agent, family, friends, etc. I don't know. But those in the know feel pretty confident he'd jump at the chance.

Didn't some poster in this very thread share that they work with one of his friends or some such and that this friend stated PJ HATES Notre Dame and would never in a million years take the job???

I guess I don’t know but I’ve also seen the opposite on numerous occasions going back a few years now.

Wasn't the same thing said about Urban Meyer back in 2004? And Urban even choached previously at ND.

I can't recall if it was here or ISD, but I do specifically remember a poster saying his boss is legitimate best friends with Fleck and said Fleck has his eyes on the ND job.

These are all rumors but I've heard the opposite, like Lucci. I remember someone saying something along the lines of...he would coach at ND for free. They were obviously exaggerating but it was someone connected to Fleck. This was after the '16 season when Western was really good and ND sucked and people were speculating on a new coach if BK got canned.

Shoot man, you might be right...just a matter of who heard the correct rumor haha. I have a hard time envisioning him at ND but I wouldn't be mad if he did somehow end up Irish in the long run.

The funny thing I think he should stay an MN-TC long term. He could probably build something there while if he goes to a higher tier I feel confident he will flame out because hes such a goober.

I'm not only certain, I'm HIV positive the poster said Fleck WANTED ND, not the other way around.

Perhaps there's another poster who says the opposite, but I know at least one who's boss is friends with Fleck aaid Fleck to ND.

I think on some level, damn near any coach from North of the Mason Dixon line sorta wants ND, provided the tools are in place to succeed there. Whenever Kelly goes, I think we will find out a lot about ND's place in modern football coach's minds.

Still waiting for NDCrusader to tell us why Fleck is on Notre Dame’s Do Not Hire list...
