Jesus. Sad to say it isn't really shocking, but it is still tragic.

One of my favorite PSH roles was in Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, in which he played a seriously screwed up and drug addicted dude who was (up until the point where the movie really picked up the story) able to cover up his issues. Was a pretty convincing performance; seems like maybe he had some ability to connect with that character.

I have never felt this sad about any celebrity death. His characters were so genuine and dark. Amazing in synecdoche, NY, doubt, before the devil knows your dead, boogie nights, Charlie Wilsons war, the master, 25th hour, Magnolia....shit. Gonna miss him. Brilliant talent gone.

Very sad to hear this news. He seemed to have an almost expert type ability to get me to buy whatever character he was portraying. I could really forget that I was seeing a movie, he just had so much talent.
