COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State's president told a university committee in December that Notre Dame wasn't invited to join the Big Ten because they're not good partners, and joked that Catholics can't be trusted.

The recording of Gordon Gee speaking to Ohio State's Athletic Council also captures him saying the Notre Dame priests who run the university are holy on Sunday and "holy hell" the rest of the week.

Gee spoke about conference expansion in the recording obtained by The Associated Press. He says Notre Dame "wanted to have its cake and eat it, too."

Gee, who has a history of verbal gaffes, also questioned the academic integrity of schools in the Southeastern Conference and the University of Louisville. He said Big Ten presidents would never agree to admit Louisville or Kentucky.

Waddaya expect from a guy in a bow tie? Exactly why Big Ten can cram it, ND has a much better partner in the ACC.

  • Hilarious hypocrisy from one of the most over-paid and incompetent bureaucrats in America;
  • Some things never change. Bigotry is still alive and well in the former Western Conference. For any of you who are still disappointed that ND joined the ACC instead of the B1G, here's Exhibit "A" for why that would have been a horrible idea.

Alot of Ohio and Ohio State alums are catholic. Not the brightest thing to say. But hey, OSU's going to start looking for Out of Staters with the in-State tuition Freeze.

Of course. I'm talking about the people running the conference; not the alumni or fan base.

The Western Conference's hostility toward ND was due in no small part to anti-Catholic bigotry, and it looks like feelings haven't changed much at the top.

Really glad this got leaked. It helps to validate our move to the ACC.

Yup, a religious school shouldn't be in a conference with no affiliation. But hey were just not good enough to be in a Conference that has 1.5 national championships since Vietnam.

I think the best part about this is that Meyer is a devout Roman Catholic. Good going Gee.

ACC >>>>>>> Big Ten in almost every sports.
For football, it gives us a foot in the door of the biggest pool of high school talent in America. This move was a no brainer as far as Notre Dame is concerned. Truly the best situation anyone could have asked for.

While Gee is great at a lot of things, keeping his mouth shut isn't one of them

How does this guy continue to stay a college president? He has eaten more of his own shoes than anyone else.

Unbelievable. This will be big news for a few days then he will go on being an overpaid fundraiser.
