Genuine question. Let's say ND finishes with....I’ll say it, it’s possible Martin is not as good at tampering as Bowden.
How is that for a pretzel
Genuine question. Let's say ND finishes with....
WR: Ian Strong
TE: Brody Foley
DT: Mateen Igbirogba
DT: Xavier Giliiam or Alex VanSumeren
NB: Jontez Williams
DE: Jalen Thompson or equivalent
Then rounds the class out with a quality kicker, quality backup QB, a rotational WR and one "surprise" player...
Is that a disappointing Portal class for you?
It wouldn't be for me. Impact, stsrting talent 4-5 positions, with some shoring up lf depth. 10'ish adds that make sense for the ND roster.
Thoughts?
I’d be thrilled with this outcome.. although Jontez just committed to USC so that’s done.Genuine question. Let's say ND finishes with....

On to Cam Sidney from Cal. Quality player. Not Jontez, but a good veteran guy to get and work in combination with Dallas Golden.Jontez committed to USC

Are you deeply concerned with the following pass catching group if Greathouse is healthy and back to the kid that played against Penn State and Ohio State in the playoffs? There would be a lot left to be desired at WR. Everything else looks good though.
I think it’s not top-tier outside of maybe tight end, and I’d like for it not to largely depend on the hope that Greathouse can achieve what he’s really only shown us in two games. Are you deeply concerned with the following pass catching group if Greathouse is healthy and back to the kid that played against Penn State and Ohio State in the playoffs?
Boundary: Ian Strong
2. Micah Gilbert
Field: Jordan Faison
2. KK Smith or Elijah Burress
Slot: Jaden Greathouse
2. Portal Addition
TE: Brody Foley
2. Cooper Flanagan or James Flanigan
It's not Ohio State, but I think people are definitely underrating what that group of pass catchers could be with another year of development and Carr at QB. The only thing it lacks is a boundary WR that can easily get over the top of defenses. Strong, Faison and Greathouse all have good-to-great hands, are plus route runners and play the ball well in the air relative to their respective sizes. They could also land another Pauling type rotational guy that ends up being a solid 4th option. Foley could easily wind up being a pass catching upgrade over Raridon (especially in the red zone) and I'll be shocked if Flanagan or Flanigan isn't anything obvious upgrade at the #2 TE spot this season.

Well since our issue is DL, I would have scouts at the North and South Dining Halls and find large people eating 5 plates and who hang around the soft serve ice cream machine at those dining halls...Guys what do we do if we land no one in the portal?! What if Schmidt is our kicker again next season!?!?
Ok Eville! 🤣If you're making threads about the guy, I think the least you can do is take him off of timeout.
Do you think IU would still be undefeated if they opened with Miami and A&M?I think the underlying issue is that the season was a disappointment. We went 11-1 last year and this season the team promised to be even better. We might have been better, but we took a step back and missed the playoffs. There are a lot of reasons for that, of course, some of which are not in our control. But the staff struggled with what was within our control; basically, the first two games.
The fact that IU has immediately risen to the top perhaps makes this jarring, because they are in-state. But it could be any program, really. If this were happening at Wisconsin, or Kentucky, or Arizona, would anyone feel differently? It appears that the IU staff gets more out of their players than we get out of our players, at least across the whole season. It didn't take their staff 2.5 games to get the defense functioning properly. They see something in our players, like Coogan, that our coaches apparently don't. Perhaps they are better talent evaluators, I don't know. And they seem to have known what they needed to do in the portal, and done it. I don't think IU winning the title (as opposed to another team) will hinder us as a program but it certainly throws our situation into starker relief.
Anyway, that is reason for the bedwetting here, imo.
I don't know, but I think the odds are better than 50%. And I doubt this IU team loses to both, which is what killed us.Do you think IU would still be undefeated if they opened with Miami and A&M?
You are saying that IU was about 70% to beat both, which is unlikely.I don't know, but I think the odds are better than 50%. And I doubt this IU team loses to both, which is what killed us.
To be clear, I would take us against anyone except IU and OSU, and maybe Oregon. And even those are 50/50 games.

When the Walls Come Tumbling Down
Since the CFP’s decision to exclude Notre Dame, little has gone right. A disjointed December in which distractions from diatribes about business partnerships, Marcus Freeman’s contract/future, and an ill-fated opening to the transfer portal has put the Irish in scramble mode.247sports.com
I think I would take Miami at even money over IU tbh. Definitely not a sure thing, but it feels like Miami is the best team in the country when they’re firing on all cylinders. Maybe best team other than Oregon. You are saying that IU was about 70% to beat both, which is unlikely.
Funny story time
I’m obviously in the heart of the new IU fan territory, so I’m standing in line at the gas station today getting my zyn minding my own business wearing my ND hat and some fella in a IU hat and sweatshirt starts running his gums about ND. I simply respond by saying “brother you were an ND fan 18 months ago”. He of course denied such claims that I made so I stated “who was the coach at IU before Cignetti” and he didn’t have an answer.
I’ve peaked as a man, that was my one shining moment. Mind you I have a career and a wife and kids I love dearly but in that gas station in suburban Indianapolis was the moment I peaked. Go Irish
