You don't see the difference between 1) not knowing the names of the schools you will potentially spend the next four years at "earning a degree" and 2) a literal typo?

I just think it was a bit of a cheap shot at a young black man who nobody here knows (not by you). But now that I say that Philly will just come in and say he didn't mean it like that and you'll tell me racism doesn't exist.

Are you trying to imply that black people are less capable of knowing the names of the schools they're applying to for some reason...?

I just don't see the point of mocking a kid's intelligence over a tweet and lol at that typo excuse for Norte Dame.

Type "Notre" in a text message -> iPhone tries to autocorrect it. Type "Norte" in a text message -> it doesn't try to autocorrect it.

It's pretty simple, actually...

HAHAHA you know damn well I'm not, try harder next time

Cool, so then your entire point is just nonsensical bullshit? There is no racial component to "knowing the name of the school you're applying to." The fact that your very first impulse was to assume NDPhily was being "racist" in mocking a self-indulgent USC recruit not being able to get the school correct... you know, instead of it simply being an ND fan ripping USC... is equal parts sad and stupid. Please do us all a favor and forgo the sanctimonious crap next time.

He mentioned stereotypes and by him also mocking the twitter handle, what stereotype am I supposed to think he's referencing? Is there a stereotype of people with normal twitter handles not being able to know the names of schools? If it was purely about USC recruits idk what the twitter handle has to do with anything.

I negged you for coming into a recruiting thread and going "oh emm gee that was racist to make fun of that guy, because you aren't allowed to make fun of him because everyone knows if you mock someone with non-white skin that == racist."

This is a Notre Dame board. We are allowed to rip on USC. NDPhilly laughed at USC for recruiting a prima donna (his twitter handle is "top prospect" lol) that can't even get the name of their school right despite being committed for 6 months. You thought that warranted calling him racist and turning the thread into a race debate for no reason... that deserves a neg.

You're obviously supposed to understand that on an ND board he's mocking the stereotype of USC recruits.

The fact that your first impulse is to make it about the color of his skin for no reason means you're either race trolling other posters here to show how #woke you are... or are just projecting some serious racial insecurities. Either way, it's wildly off topic and disappointing.

I couldn't figure out where this was coming from, because it was oddly specific. So I did some searching, and now I realize you were just holding a year long grudge. You're mad that I called out your worthless parents for being racist... and are trying to misconstrue me arguing about the nuance of "racism = systems of oppression" versus "racism = people with discriminatory feelings."

Anyways, I'm moving all of this to OT posts... but just to set the record straight here are the applicable posts from the Racism and Kaerpernick threads.

Good effort, though.

I legitimately, no sarcasm, feel sorry for you. Your parents and their friends are prejudiced bigots. However, none of what you just listed rises to the modern progressive-accepted definition of racism. They are racists but racism is actually enacting systems of oppression against people of color. Unless your parents actually tried to force you to not live with the black people, or told your black roommates they should find another place to live, it's not racism. Expressing their prejudice to you in a private setting does nothing to enact any sort of oppression on the people of color. And that's basically my point.

In high school, one Korean girl was actually physically beaten by her parents for dating a black kid and forbidden to see him. That's racism.

Woof... so all of the problems are because of evil white people teaching their kids to be evil, and if you "ask what the problem is" you're part of the problem. Everything is "white people's fault," because they are oppressors, and if you dare to even question that then prepare to be labeled. Very #college of you. All of the crap Kaepernick, et. al. say about "starting a conversation" is a lie... it's not about starting a conversation, it's about bullying people into one way of thinking.

Look, I've seen my cousin at a fancy restaurant get mistaken for the valet by a rich old white dude because he's Latino. That's a racist action. My dad, who also looks much more Latino than I, has also been racially profiled by police for being a "beaner" driving a $100k Mercedes. That's also a racist action, and it sucks. But there are no systems of oppression that prevent my cousin from chasing his dreams, or that prevented my dad from being successful.

There are racist people in the world, like your parents, and that's a problem. I wish they didn't exist, but they do and always will. Tribalism is as old as time and will never be stomped out. But the systems of oppression are mostly dead, and while black communities absolutely still feel their effects, that's not what Kap or BLM or anyone else is talking about. They're saying "white cops murder black people for being black"... which is a lie and not supported by facts. They say "mass incarceration is racist"... which it is, but ironically 99%+ of the people affected are voting for the person that helped put it in these systems, so obviously they don't care about it enough to let it affect their vote. So please tell me what active system of oppression currently being supported or implemented by white people against black people Kap, BLM, etc. is proposing a discreet solution to because I will enthusiastically support every single initiative they propose to dismantle them (like I do with mandatory minimums, the for profit prison system, and basically all justice system reform).

Here's what I'll add to this thread and then basically bow out before it turns into a shit show...

-One of my first hands-on experiences with racism was when I was in HS and my dad was driving me somewhere in his Mercedes. My dad gets pulled over by a cop for "speeding". There's some back and forth and then the cop literally asks him "how he got this car" after registration and everything checks out. My dad gets a little irritated at that and the cop comes back with "the only beaners that drive a car like this are drug dealers" and asks my dad to step out of the vehicle and says he's going to search the car. I'm going to skip a lot of the story and just say it ends with my dad getting charged with "reckless driving" and then the case being immediately dismissed in court when the cop admits he didn't even radar the car for a speed reading.

-Institutional racism is very real. People legitimately should educate themselves it and not dismiss it. White privilege is also very real.

-Modern day racism is nowhere close the overt racism of the Jim Crow era and I hate when the two are conflated. The "New Jim Crow" i.e. mass incarceration is not the same as actual Jim Crow. The oppression is not the same, stop saying things like "modern day slavery" when it's nowhere close to actual-freaking-slavery. I dislike progress deniers and opportunists who have made an "activism" career out of racism. They only serve to profit by having people hate each other.

-I think Black Lives Matter has done more to hurt race relations in this country than any organization in my lifetime.

-It cracks me up how saying "colored people" was determined a long time ago to be offensive, so then modern day activists rebranded it "people of color" to ensure that they can unite all non-whites against whites. And ensure that everyone with tan skin can claim to be a victim.

-The most racist group of people I've ever met in my life are Asians. Last time I said this people got mad, so let me just quickly say that if you have a problem with that I don't care. Fuck off, it's my personal experience and I know it doesn't apply to everyone. They're the only people I've ever seen physically beat someone for dating a black guy. They're the only people who have ever told their daughter they couldn't date me because of skin color. They're the only group of people I've ever seen openly and regularly express disdain for other races in my presence like it's no big deal... and not just Asian vs black, or Asian vs white, I mean like Koreans telling me how "inferior" people from Vietnam are. But according to modern SJWs, they're all part of the big "people of color" tent so they can't be racist.

Well, I'm not a racist and white supremacist like your parents and their friends. So that's a start.

You're the one who chose to share this --
I'm going back to college Friday, and all three of my roommates are black (I'm white). When my parents found out, they kept suggesting that I ask for a switch, because they said that I was going to feel "uncomfortable." I told them that they were ridiculous, no reason to judge anyone before even meeting them. Last week, my parents had a bunch of their friends over, so I was in a room of about 15 50-60 year old white adults. For some reason, they decided to bring up that I was living with 3 black guys, and nearly all of them immediately suggested that I switch rooms immediately. They were telling stories about friends of friends who lived with black roommates before, and had bad experiences because they lived like "savages." The phrase many of them kept coming back to was "they just don't know any better."

Don't get mad at me for calling a spade a spade. You're the one that decided to lie about what I said in a year+ old post and start race trolling a recruit's thread for no reason.

I came back to IE right now to make some sort of peace but, nah you're just being a fucken cockwomble

K.

Look, you decided to come after another poster with unfounded race baiting bullshit. That's shitty. Your goal was obviously just to start a fight, so why are you upset now that you've got one?

I'll be here as long as you want to go round and round... I'm completely done giving free passes to people being shitty on here.

Well, I think you're a racist. If you can call me one for no reason then I'll give it right back.

I was not looking for a fight, I gave Philly a chance to clarify what stereotype he was referring to, and he never did. Honestly still hasn't, so maybe I was right.

He could have just been making fun of USC, and if he came back and said that, fantastic. When I was trying to figure out the connection between @TopProspect, SCU and some stereotype, I got nothing. But he's said some things in political threads that really rubbed me the wrong way. So then what am I going to think?

And then when you intervene, I'm still clearly not trying to pick a fight. I didn't originally want to share that I thought it might be a racist stereotype, and while you didn't exactly provoke me, I was over the typo conversation. So maybe I should have kept quiet then. But then for you to call me a racist with a neg rep and then call my parents worthless, well fuck you dude.

I'm done discussing this, this is a cot dam internet message board and this is hopefully the first and last time I get in a 'fight.'

The difference between your opinion and mine is that:
1) You admitted in your own story that your parents are racist
2) You're the one everyone saw trying to race troll a USC joke in a recruit's thread

I was not looking for a fight, I gave Philly a chance to clarify what stereotype he was referring to, and he never did. Honestly still hasn't, so maybe I was right.

Yeah, probably should have. The part where it became obvious to everyone that you were posting in bad faith was when you explained your 'position' about a 'young black man' and took nonsensical swipes at Philly and me.

Look, I've gotten all positive feedback/reps/messages to my post explaining why I negged you. Nobody is on this site because they want to read people concern trolling over jokes about USC. To try to retcon everything that went down for you to be the good guy here... no one is buying it. Sorry.

But then for you to call me a racist with a neg rep and then call my parents worthless, well fuck you dude.

If you don't want to get neg repped, don't race bait in a recruit's thread. If you don't want your parents brought up, don't post about them being racist and don't try to misrepresent stuff I've said. It's all really simple.

Last thing I'm going to say here as an aside... a few months ago I never would've even engaged you on this in the first place but like I said we're done with shitty posting getting a free pass. It's why political threads all have their own subforum to keep that mess contained, and why we've more stringently been policing rules violations. I'm probably the only guy on here you can say "fuck you" to and not get banned. My goal in publicly hashing this out rather than just snipping your posts after it became clear where you were going with them was to keep everything above board and make it clear why I took exception to what you were posting.

In retrospect, I will say I'm sorry for bringing your parents into at all... that wasn't necessary, even to illustrate my point about you misconstruing stuff from a year ago.

What did Dantonio win of national significance?

With 3 and 2 star talent he got to the playoff and did about as well as ND did. The point is, with 4 star talent things should be better. 11-2 records are great, but losing to the only teams with a pulse is a negative.

ND will just never get those kids. ND will get a 5 star here and there, bunch of 4 and 3 stars. The difference is you need to find those diamonds in the rough, like Dantonio did for all those years. Thats where your bread is going to be buttered.

I would argue that there was a combination of things that led to Dantonio's success. Let me start out by saying that i"m not a MSU hater by any means. But most of Dantonio's success was attributed to Rich Rod turning his back on his own backyard in MI and even the Midwest in general. He was hell bent on setting up pipelines down south in GA, FL and TX to find speed to match his spread offense. That's why he failed so miserably and then Dantonio jumped all over the home-state pipeline.

Dantonio deserves credit for keeping it going as long as he did. I think he had a knack certainly for evaluating and developing talent, but there's a reason why he's gone now. He was bringing int he same caliber of classes and Harbaugh has done a good job of restoring scUM in the Midwest and they are taking the cream of the crop in MI for the most part now.

Dantonio tore down what he built; they've been average to below average for 5 years running.

Dantanio built it with 2 and 3 star kids. Kids that he told that UM didnt want them. Kids who then played above their level, especially against Michigan But he found a lot of diamonds in the rough.

I think that game really broke you...

That's a pretty positive ISD article. Hopefully ND took a big step forward with that Zoom recruiting visit.

Yah it did break me. I can stand losing to Clemson and Alabama by a truck load. Everyone else ND should be competitive with, IE Georgia. If it hasn't affected you in some way, well you are a better man than I. Even losing a close one to Michigan that night because of the hellacious down pour, I get it. But we got our asses handed to us by Shea fucking Patterson.

Agree to disagree; in 2009 Dantonia landed six 4-star players from MI, which was unheard of. Michigan had two. 2010, similar story: MSU landed five star William Gholston and three other four star players from Michigan. The Wolverines had one: Devin Gardner.

If Rich Rod didn't ignore the mitten I don't think MSU was as successful under Dantonio as we saw in the past decade. He took full advantage of it. And, again, his knack for developing talent was certainly next level. It's not like he had consistent top 15 classes, but to say he wasn't landing elite players is also untrue and misleading. He had some studs that typically headed to Ann Arbor or out of state. And in the past few years he appears to have lost his penchant to develop underrated recruits on top of it all. Going 7-6 and having bad PR is a bad combination.

At any rate, Go Irish, land Shipley.

It did. I just got over it. I also understand not getting over it as well. I had noticed a while back how much that lost effected you and hadn't commented on it. Hopefully we can get the old phork back sometime...

What bothers me is the big loss as well. Looking at that banner stating 45-14 just makes me sick. Reminds me of the days of ND just giving up and rolling over for USC. Except Michigan wasnt even in the same universe talent wise as USC. It was humiliating and still is. That wasnt Mich rolling. That was ND being weak ducks and giving up.

I dont get that. I dont get the give up mentality. Anyone with a pulse can play HS ball. Very, very few can play D-1 ball. Even less can play for a high level program D-1. Short of the extreme few that go pro, that is your shot of doing something exceptional in your life. I just cant get how anyone can live with themselves at that level knowing they just rolled over and bared their belly begging for mercy to one of their biggest rivals. Especially classless jacklegs like Michigan with their classless coach.

Seriously. Like, sometimes shit happens. It's inexcusable during the season for it to have happened. We came off a buy, looked really good going in, and BOOM. But, I, as a fan, still woke up and went about my day the next day. I dealt with a lot of flak from friends and coworkers over the next week, and then it was over. I'm also pretty sure the staff and players were devastated after too. I don't think they went out there that night and said, "Welp let's just not try tonight, against Michigan. We're tired..."

Get over the loss guys. Sometimes you just lay an egg. Look at even the super elite teams and they lay eggs. Lots of eggs laid by teams on the road at night. Look historically at that.

Did everyone fall apart In Ohio because a far superior Ohio State team loses badly to Purdue?

Was I devastated having to face my Scum friends after that loss, He’ll yes. It wasn’t like we laid down the rest of the season and gave up, however.

We totally smoked an ISU team in a bowl we were barely favored against. I was pretty proud of the team that day.

Go Irish!!
