I was there for the 2019 game. It’s just one game, but I wasn’t overly impressed. I would expect lot of ND fans tomorrow. It’s a 4 hour drive, straight shot south from South Bend.
Same, there was a little hype early when ND was letting them hang around, but they were very quick to go away in the 3rd quarter when we started to control the game. I expect the same thing; weather the storm in the first 15-30 minutes, then start grinding them down.

The only thing I remember about the '19 game was I was excited to see Kyren Williams make a splash. One play and then benched (for the season).

It was warranted, he was out of shape/overweight and made an mistake on a simple play. It was clear he wasn't ready for the moment, but he dedicated himself, and was extremely ready for the 2020 season.

How the hell do you guys remember random details like this and are able to call out what year it happened in 4 years later. Props to you...
It was memorably bad.
Then he turned in a really good season after that.

O’Leary has ND Safties ranked #1 nationally efficiency.
A big reason ND is ranked 3rd nationally pass defense efficiency.
But yeah, we should probably fire him.
LOL
It’s the corners(hart and Morrison) allowing our safeties to play free and help… safeties and nickel are playing ok but could easily and should be better, they’ve had such easy opportunities for big plays and really only watts has capitalized

I think our talent is very very low and we’re getting the most out of it.. watts and carter have talent but brown and Henderson are physical liabilities. Brown is just so assignment correct

Definitely think O’Leary is a good coach, we just need better talent there

I don't know where you have gotten that from.
Our safety recruiting is bad and the starters have not played well. DJ Brown struggles catching and Watts struggles tackling. The others I have barely noticed.
That stat makes it sound like our safeties are better than our corners FFS.
I just think efficiency stats come from someone's backside.

To be fair, Greg Flammang at ISD is super high on how X Watts has been playing. Says he’s trending to put in a season that would be similar to Alohi Gilman’s 2018.

Watts is a good football player, but also a converted WR. Brown is a three-star veteran playing to the best of his ability. Henderson is what he is, a mid, replacement-level second-stringer. Carter has barely played. And our future NFL corners and heavy use of nickel packages help protect all of them.

I would agree that safety recruiting could be improved but also O’Leary is making the most of the talent at hand. If this is one of our weaker position groups, OK, I’ll take it.

First time I agree with you. At least the first paragraph. I don't think our safety talent is "very very low"

Honestly I don't think Hart is getting enough props this year. He has played just has good if not better then Morrison and Morrison is the only one getting the praise

Brohm said we have one absolute shut down corner… curious if he meant hart or Morrison… Morrison has given up more receptions than hart this year

Mike Mickens is also an animal. His ability to identify talent and coach it up is impressive. Mickey and Christian Gray will be next. Mickey is just a year behind schedule because of whats in front of him. He would start or play very very meaningful minutes this year for a lot of P5 teams as a sophomore.

I want to believe that with Mickey but haven’t seen him make a play yet that wasn’t close to Los

Facts! Think of how often you hear Hart's name....Just about as much as you do on this board...Number one sign of a shut down corner...You don't hear much about him because they rarely attack him. He's been playing lights out!

Morrison just flat out won’t tackle right now too… they’re playing great, but can improve

It feels like we’ve seen enough of Mickey to have a decent assessment of him and I’m with you, I just don’t see anything special.

I’d really like to see Parker / Hartman push the ball down the field today. Really air it out and let Evans and the receivers get their yards in. Go put up 40+ on them, give your o-line and backs some rest, and get ready for USC.

I see ability but right now he seems to be all bark no bite… he probably talks the most on the team

I’m not concerned about resting our backs, since we routinely use five of them. But after watching some tape of the L’ville/NC St game a downfield passing game is the way to go vs these guys. They are very much a attacking pressure defense with the LBs right at the LOS and the CBs in press coverage.
They give up big plays but get a lot of sacks and tackles for losses. Protecting Sam will be essential.
BTW L’ville is NOT a finesse team. Not sure that nonsense got started but their defense was tossing NCSts OL around like rag dolls

If people haven't seen them, their front 7 is going to be way better than expected IMO.
