It was really good to see Colzie out there and making plays. He seems to have arrived, because Lenzy was healthy (apparently he was sick and missed practice during the week), but he was just not out there on offense. Seeing Colzie, Merriweather and Thomas impress at receiver is reassuring.

But at this point, why is Pyne still playing? This team won despite his awful play. I'm sorry but there is just no way Angeli can be worse than this. Three straight games with sub 50% accuracy and missed/poor throws left and right. I get you don't want to put your freshman QB in a bad position against a better opponent with no experience, but you're doing your team zero favors by continuing to roll with a QB that is completely ineffective and missing basic throws.

Also, despite the 41 points, Rees did not call a good game. His utilization of Chris Tyree continues to confound me. Like, why are we trying to run in up the middle when you have a 6'0 230 pound battering ram, or hell, Diggs can hit those holes. But no, let's run the 5'9 190 pound back inside. What?

Marist and Bertrand have really stepped up their game. Botelho has also arrived.

I don't know why you guys are having trouble with the fact that the true freshman who spent fall camp as the third-string QB isn't ready to run an offense.

The coaches clearly think Pyne gives this team the best chance of winning. ND has a pretty good defense, a pretty good run game, and a QB who at least isn't actively losing games with horrendous decisions. It's not an awful team that needs to put in a true freshman QB.

That's true, Angeli may not be ready to run an offense.

But it's clear as day that neither is Pyne. How can they believe Pyne gives them the best chance to win, when he's been the reason they lost the Stanford game? He was the reason the UNLV game wasn't an utter blowout. He was the reason the Syracuse game was closer than it should've been.

At this point, you have to try something different, because you are getting nothing from Pyne. He's been abysmal since the BYU game. So I don't see the downside of putting Angeli in there. You really can't get worse than what we've gotten out of Pyne the last 3 games.

Just got back from my daughter’s softball game (which she dominated btw) and saw the score. Glad they won but yeah my first honest thought was, ‘geez how do they beat this team in their house but lose to the worst Stanford in 30 years at home?!?’

Anyway, another punt block?? Is that correct!?

I think the obvious answer is that Pyne isn't good but Angeli is worse.

Overall good game but still frustrated by the inconsistencies. Pyne is so bad, it’s hard to watch. At the same time, it was good to see the OL pummel an inferior DL. Special Teams continue to be solid despite the missed FG.

Yeah, good game that should been over sooner. Some of the playcalling and Pyne inability to play is just maddening. But I will take a W like that.

Probably our most complete game of the season.

Special teams and defense played damn well.

Offense was clicking when Tommy got out of his own fucking way.

Pyne is at his best when he doesn't have time to think.

Give him all day and he forces it to a quad covered Mayer.

Give him a split second and he throws a dime down the field to Mayer.

If we had a true threat at QB I think we'd be currently sitting undefeated this year.

I'd argue just a competent quarterback has them at 7-1 minimum with 8-0 very possible.

I'm ashamed of myself but I hate Pyne. The player not the man.

I don’t hate him. It’s not his fault that he is maxed out on talent and ability. And more is expected from him that he can’t deliver because he can’t.

Also not his fault that he has a QB coach that can’t develop QB’s.

Missing reads and locking in on Mayer 100% his fault.

Great post. We won and I don't even think it was a contest after the first quarter. For reasons unknown, it seems like it takes a few games for ND to come together as a team. I thought we had it playing pOSU and then it was gone. Today gave me a lot of confidence. I hope to God it gave Pyne a lot of confidence too.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

Again I haven’t watched the game yet but 9-19 1 TD and 1 int and a 3rd game in a row under 50% completion percentage and you think this is a confidence builder?🤔😳

What are you drinking cause I need some? Lol

Pyne has not played well this year. He can't make a completion to save his life. Most of his completions have been remarkable performances from his receivers... particularly Michael Mayer. The man is a beast.

My thoughts or hopes are that Pyne recognizes ALL of the assets that are available to him and I hope Tommy sees this also.

Obviously, my post was confusing and I apologize.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

I just don’t see how people are hating on Rees today? Did he recruit Pyne. Yes. That’s a different story. But he called a fine game. Perfect no, but solid. Half the pass plays Tommy called, Pyne missed numerous dudes open. He’s atrocious. He is who he is. Just not very good.

At least he has accepted that Pyne is so bad that he needs to commit to the run.

With that same theory how can you critique Pyne, he was not perfect, but he won the game.

Both Rees and Pyne are limited and deserve critique. We are a flawed team, but the win was nice even if very frustrating at time.

Cool, he sucked. But Rees left a lot of points on the field because he was being to cute. Even opposing fanbase (SYRACUSE board) fans know it, the announcers called it, Rees threw at times when he shouldn't. He deserves criticism, and Pyne does also.
