Dang, Lax is down bad.
I have never been as pessimistic as I am after the UNLV game. I thought Pyne might be turning a corner after UNC + BYU, then it was clear he wasn't after the Stanford debacle, and now I'm unfortunately also convinced that Rees is just going to continue on his bullshit for the last 5 games. Rees has no balls to make a change, and missed his window to get Angeli reps against a soft opponent.

The way Syracuse played against Clemson would beat ND by 3 TDs. Our best hope is that team isn't the one who shows up next Saturday and instead we get a "let down."

I was visiting a Clemson friend yesterday so that was the game on the main TV. I was watching ND on my computer.

If you actually watched the Clemson/Syracuse game you would have seen that Syracuse had no business being in that game. It was completely a Clemson debacle that had Syracuse in the lead. For a team to have four turnovers and still win shows how inept Syracuse was. The Syracuse offense is terrible. They looked like Iowa in the second half where their punter was their most effective player. I would put Syracuse below UNC and maybe even below BYU.

Hopefully ND playing well on the road will continue this week. This will be a battle of two pretty bad teams.

I didn't think Cuse looked great Yesterday. The game was only close from some really bad Clemson turnovers (2 from DJ). The offense is going to be an uphill battle all year for us but the defense will definitely have a chance to keep us in the game.

This is going to be an ass beating by a motivated Syracuse team that plays fundamentally sound defense and has a good offensive system.
Probably. Will Shipley ran all over the Syracuse defense. The thing is SU knows ND will try to establish the run & Pyne will end up throwing as much as he did in the Stanford game vs a horrible run D. All SU (or any team w/ a pulse) has to do is copy the Stanford blueprint.

The worst thing an ND fan can do right now is assume that Navy & BC are wins & that 6-6 is just a formality.

Syracuse D is not good. Almost 300 yards rushing to Clemson and over 400 yards passing to Purdue in their only real tests.

There is a formula to winning. They’d have to have a dominating run game performance and get at minimum an average performance from Pyne. Like give us at least the mean of UNC/BYU game and the last two weeks. On defense the floodgates would have to open TO and RZ D wise. Absolutely have to see a 2 turnovers by Cuse, 0 by ND type game.

Syracuse has gotten “lucky” according to the numbers to even keep the Clemson game close and win the Purdue game while facing a non existent NC St without Leary. Usually some of what the computers call “luck” is good coaching though and it certainly feels at the moment that leans heavily towards Cuse.

This kills me to say because I definitely share your pessimism, but this is a perfect buy ND low spot. Cuse had a 14 point swing play in that game that made it a lot closer than what it should have been. There’s a bit of Cuse inflation right now.

QB line from Clemson Saturday:

15/26 157 yards 2 INTs, 1 Fumble (returned for TD)

If Pyne just takes care of the ball and hits wide open WRs, Syracuse is extremely gettable on D. Clemson basically won a game with the passing attack representing negative value to the team. If they just lined up an ran every single time it’s a 2 score win. Pretty relevant to ND.

Pyne for better or worse probably does take care of the ball. Needs to just not **** the easy stuff. Tall task the last two weeks.

Stanford was that team as well and look how that turned out.

Exactly, isn’t that the point?

Effectively run the ball - ✅
Pyne play literally average - ❌
TO battle/Red Zone - ❌

If they accomplish either of the things they failed, they win the game.

Or a QB/OC with a pulse

Which means Rees will come out throwing. Then in the 3rd quarter realize that we need to run more.

I think it’s also important to note how bad we have been in the turnover margin. A bit of that is luck. At some point we will have a weird game go our way.

Devil's advocate, ND ran absolutely no new plays against UNLV because they didn't need to.

ND is talented enough to beat Syracuse. The OL is playing well enough to beat Syracuse.

You are right on the money though, if Rees trots out the same bullshit they will get pummeled. I've already posted by criticisms 15x so I won't bore everyone.

I am not in favor of playing Angeli, because I think this team can play up and beat some of the ranked teams on the schedule. They have no shot of doing that with a true freshman QB IMO.

The one thing I would say though is I dont believe Clemson is that great this year either and are getting the benefit of the doubt because of their recent history. The offense looked good against Wake, but the defense was terrible. They have won their games, but they have a lot of holes and have been pretty inconsistent in most phases of the game all year. Syracuse didnt do anything special yesterday, Clemson was just pretty bad most of the game and the turnoveres were more a careless lack of ball security than Syracuse creating them.
It will be a tougher game than anyone thought to start the year but I dont think Cuse wins by anything close to 3 TDs unless its just a catastrophic meltdown.

Circa just opened ND as a 2 pt favorite

Fanduel opened it as Cuse -4.5 and has it down to -1.5

DraftKings opened it at ND -1 and now has Cuse -1

Caesar’s Cuse -3 down to Cuse -2.

But the one thing Clemson is good at is stopping the run. They have struggled in the secondary w/ freshman DBs getting burned or penalized in man coverage. Can Pyne exploit that?

Safe bet is no, he cant. I would love for him to stop locking in on Mayer, stop missing wide open receivers, and stop getting his passes batted down. But that's just hope.

BetMGM has Cuse -2.

Going to take it and hope Tom Rees doesn’t get back on the plane to SB.

I heard a stat that Syracuse had more INT this year on passes thrown 15 yards or more going into that Clemson game?

They got a couple more yesterday too.
