Be sure to gorge on carne asada tacos and chile rellenos while in town....

If you only new how difficult it is to get a good chile relleno here, you wouldn't post stuff like this. Now I am sad.

I would try and limit Tillery’s snaps in this game.

No need to have him cut blocked 60 out of 70 plays.

This is a game the O SHOULD put up a lot of points early. I'd have subs rotating early and often on the DL, and on the OL if we can go up by a few TD early. We should expect their typical O, but our LBs and DEs are much quicker than a typical ND team. Their O has not played a top 70 D (against the run) yet this season.

Their D shouldn't have a chance vs a quick fire QB with big WRs and TEs. Our RBs should have a nice day too.

I'd expect Houston to put up 40-50 on them this weekend.

Navy is going to try to implement the same strategy that Pitt attempted. That being long, methodical, time-consuming drives on offense to limit the offense's opportunities to score.

If Tony is back to 100% and Jafar is back in the fold, as expected, then ND really needs to establish the run first and foremost. They didn't against Pitt and it was pretty infuriating. I get that Book has a hot hand, but we're going to need a stellar run game to be a legit playoff team.

They don't run the ball very effectively, despite having one of the highest rushing yards per game totals, they only average about 4.5 yards per carry.

Jump on them early, get quick stops on defense, run away with the win. No more squeakers vs inferior opponents.

Couldn't ask for a better time for those attending. Lots open at noon, that gives us 5 hours of glorious tailgating weather in the mid 70's.

Also means the boys won’t get back into SouthBend until around 7 am Sunday morning. Will throw their sleep schedules off. And they are back to school after fall break. And unlike other schools these kids play school. And then they have the trap game at NorthWestern on Saturday with the time still TBD.

F*ck Navy for scheduling this game in San Diego. Just play at your home in Maryland or in the meadowlands like they have in the past. And f*ck CBS for making this a 8 pm game, because it can’t be played at noon est because scumbag Navy has the game in Cali, and then CBS has the all powerful SEC game of the week at 3:30. F*ck Navy and f^ck CBS! And a big f*cl you to the NCAA for not doing anything to stop this and protect student athletes, because NCAA is a sham sh*t show!

No F**k Jack?

Is it possible that Navy sent Jack a note saying the Irish will be forced to play them in the football recruiting hot spots of Florida and California without his consent?

Could've sworn it was announced that the boys are staying in SD Saturday night to combat that stress

I did not know that. That does help a bit. But still means they will get home late Sunday evening and then have classes Monday morning.

Academic support staff will be on the trip as well so they can be somewhat productive with any academic work they have on Sunday as well

Probably. But does Hack have the power to veto where Navy plays a “home game”. I honestly don’t know. Also, I don’t mind the trip to Jacksonville as much as going to San Diego.

2.5hr vs 4hr. Chartered, no messing with the typical time consuming airport drama and depending on which Delta charter they get, it could look like the one below. I've seen pics of the team in one set up exactly like this for either for the Fiesta Bowl or for SC in 2015.

You are neglecting that Florida is in the same time zone as SouthBend, Indiana while San Diego there is a 3 hour time difference.

Not neglecting it, just didn't mention it as they're using Sunday as a buffer day. They'll get out of SD after lunch, land at SBN at 8pm and be in their rooms by 9. Plus they will have slept for 3 hours on the plane. They'll be fine. We did 10x worse in college and it didn't phase us.

What is the difference between playing a night game in San Diego or when we play a night game at USC or Stanford? Yeah, it is a little unfortunate but oh well. This is what happens when you sign up to play major D1 ball.

Is this what happens when the team is 7-0 and there isn't much to complain about? We start complaining about flight schedules?

Ehh. In 2012 they literally went across the globe to play a game and played a game the following Saturday. I think they'll survive.

And do you remember how the game following Navy in Ireland turned out?

You do know the round trip for the Navy game in San Diego is equivalent to the total miles traveled in the remaining schedule for a power five school. So in this one trip Notre Dame will have traveled as many miles as say for example Alabama will travel the remainder of their season.

So no this is not what happens when you signup to play major D1 ball. This only happens at Notre Dame.

It’s the logistics that get the players out of their routine. Name me another team w/ a legitimate shot at the CFP that travels cross country across multiple time zones as much as ND does. It’s dumb.

And pretty much every game after Navy week since.

I still maintain the reason ND crushed Navy in 2012 was b/c they got them in the opener. They had plenty of time to work on their base defense + plan for triple option. I wish Swarbrick would tell Navy that we will maintain the scheduling but it will have to be the opener every season due to the challenge of five ACC games + their traditional rivals.

Probably that those games are the last game of the season so it doesn't affect the next game.

Aside from the annual trip out west for USC/Stanford, when does Notre Dame "travel across multiple time zones?" The Navy game setup is pretty unusual, and I agree this November is overdoing the travel. But it's not the norm.
Most of our road games are against ACC teams (all in the East) or bus rides in the Big Ten. I'm not sure how a charter flight to North Carolina is so different than a bus ride to Lansing.
In the last five years, we've been to Texas twice. That's farther, yes, but still Central time zone. The only time we played on Mountain time was Arizona State in 2014. Again, aside from the last game in California (which, being Thanksgiving week and the last game of the year, is a little different than a midseason out-and-back).

I'll bet there are 30+ games that are longer door to door than what ND experiences going from the Gug to their LA hotel... and I have no idea how many DI football teams travel coach

Having a Delta Charter waiting 10 minutes away at SBN and only having to go 15 minutes from LAX to get to the hotel or the Coliseum cuts total time down. There are plenty of road warriors in CFB, like WVU going to any conference game. The PAC: Wazzu to Tucson is Canada to Mexico. B1G games like Nebraska to Rutgers or Minny to Maryland. MWC teams are all over the leftside of the country... and no one from Hawaii will ever shed a tear for ND's plight.

And don't even get me started with what basketball players have to endure. I played at ND on a Saturday night and played a day game at San Francisco's Holiday Tourney 40 hrs later on Monday followed by Texas A&M in the Championship Game on Tuesday. Flew back to Chicago on Wednesday and had dinner in the film room as soon as we got to campus.

And no, I didn't play against Bill Russell & KC Jones.

I don't know where ND stays in LA but 15 minutes from LAX to the Coliseum is... ambitious.
I agree with your broader point though. Our travel schedule is not that bad. This November's back-and-forth is more the exception than the rule.
