It's interesting that looking back to the preview magazines, Navy's defense was considered a strength for them in the preseason. Their leading tackler is a 5-11, 209 lbs. linebacker. Everyone not named Air Force has been able to throw on them. The Navy rush defense is probably average at best. Lane is a bit of a player in the secondary.

I'm leaning on 38-14 ND

Quite possibly lol! I didnt watch the game last week and havent followed GT at all! Sorry for the ignorance!
Haha not at all man, I do remember those Paul Johson teams being pretty fun to watch, though. I believe the 2015 game in South Bend was a top 15 ranked football team but the Irish beat them pretty good, better than the final score indicated when GT scored a couple of garbage time TDs. It was Kizer's first start after the Zaire injury against UVA the week prior.

I have no idea if FPI is a reliable measurement of good football teams, but they do have Navy pretty low at like 65. That makes more sense now.

It's no secret that this is Navy's first real test this weekend, but they have been blowing the doors off of their "inferior" competition to date.

Golden year one struggled after we got the lead. Golden year 2 said I got you figured out. Golden year 3 is going to be like year 2.

Oh them linebackers are gonna eat!
I hope you are right. I have a little concern cause Navy isn't really running the option like they have always run it. They're actually having double digit pass attempts per game this season. It's really more of a Wing T than they're old option. Our safeties won't be able to creep up as much as in the past.

I do think that the ND offense will overwhelm the Navy defense though.

If we win the line play on both sides of the ball we should roll. But if our defensive front is controlled their offense can put a ton of pressure on the DBs with a dual threat QB like they have. Horvath looks pretty damn fast on tape but the teams they have played are so bad its hard to tell how fast he really is.

They've given Memphis their only loss thus far and Memphis has probably been their only test up until this weekend.

I sort of worry about every game now because I frequent this board and get reminded of NIU on an hourly basis.

Stat line to the Memphis game is so bizarre, and not very Navy-esque. Navy only had possession of the ball for 24 minutes. Memphis had about 700 yards of offense, started the game with a 7-0 lead, and later in the 1st quarter they had a 14-7 lead. That would typically be a disaster for Navy but they just killed Memphis with big plays all day. Almost every drive had a chunk play - 20 yard pass, 39 yard run, 46 yard run, 48 yard pass, 60 yard run, 90 yard run and an 86 yard interception return for a TD.

Obviously the key to stopping their offense is discipline, but getting high level individual efforts from the linebackers and secondary could be the difference. Watts and Shuler should dominate this game. Linebackers are young and it'll be interesting to see how they play against this offense. Leonard Moore is going to be tested too. The kid can cover, but he's going to have to make some tackles this weekend.

Navy will be tough to stop on a short field, so hopefully the offense protects the ball, and it'll be interesting to see if Freeman takes as many 4th down chances as he might normally or if he opts to punt and try to pin them deep.

This is definitely not the usual Navy offense. I was looking at Time of Possession for the season. ND is 48th in the country and Navy is 97th. ND averages 30:49 per game and Navy averages 28:35.

Also, Navy is first in the nation on Points per Play. Who would have ever thought that Navy would lead the nation in explosive plays.
This is what has me a bit worried for this game. This is not the Navy of old. These numbers I posted earlier show that what they did against Memphis is their new normal.

Navy is no longer the grind it out style of option - they are the high-octane wing T.

Maybe, or maybe Memphis can't tackle.

Our punter is one of the worst ones that I can remember in a long time, so i suspect Freeman will be be aggressive...

Correct me if I'm wrong.

But if Navy scores first Saturday that'll be 7/8 games the opposing team has scored first. Correct?
