My initial thoughts on the game based on what I have seen from both teams.

1. The Irish have to be better at third down defense against FSU than they were against UNC. Have to get off the field.

2. The loss of Collinsworth does hurt the secondary. How much depends on how the other players step up.

3. The DL must get pressure on JW without relying on the blitz. Crab boy has been deadly against the blitz this season... mainly because he is checking the ball down way more than he did last year. Gotta stay glued to the short route. Maybe BVG shows blitz and then backs off some.

4. If FSU has 3rd and 4 or longer they throw almost every time. This should help BVG set up his defense without worrying too much for the run. Don't let crab boy get out of the pocket though. He may not run much, but he can get a first down or two to keep a drive alive.

5. The Irish have to run the ball on offense. The FSU DL can give up some yardage so the Irish should try to take advantage of that. I can't see the Irish backs getting long runs as they seem to lack that second level speed to do that against a pretty fast defense. But getting the dirty yards inside the tackles will be huge.

6. FSU's OL is not really that great. This should allow the Irish DL some opportunities to disrupt the FSU run game. They are better at pass blocking however.

7. The Irish will likely lose if it comes down to a kicking game. As good as Brinza has been, the FSU kicker is probably without a doubt the best in the country.

8. Can not turn the ball over. Giving crab boy the ball back will be a recipe for disaster.

9. YAC will be huge for the Irish defense. I hope the missed tackles, poor angles, etc the irish defense had against UNC was more a reflection of sloppy play rather than a lack of athleticism. FSU will make you pay if you miss tackles. They have plenty of speed even if they are not as fast as years past.

10. Golson must play a near flawless game. Yeah... I know it is obvious. Playing average will not get it done. If he struggles, it will be difficult if not impossible.

Not much that hasn't already been said and I think we will learn more as the week progresses. I like the Irish's chances in the game... even since preseason as this is not the same FSU team as last year. They are good... but they are also beatable.

Get it done Irish.

Agree with everything you said. We'll find out what kind of team we have this Saturday.

I think we need a separate thread for everyone going to a wedding this weekend. No spoilers allowed.

Real friends wouldn't have a wedding in the middle of the season...pick better friends...

Maybe I'm in the minority, but when I start thinking about the game I like how this is an away game. I would be way more nervous if it was at home for some reason.

Me three. I think this game will bring out the best in ND. Folston will be chomping at the bit to take on these guys.

I've got a feeling that we have a breakout run game against FSU. Folston and Bryant are going to be looking to punish them and the OL is going to be locked in.

Caught a lot of flack about the UNC score. These are college kids, that was the definition of a trap game.

Play physical, play smart, win 3rd down. No reason ND can't do these things and leave FreeShoeU with a win.
