A wise coach once told me: How you play against your rival shows your ability, how you play against lesser opponents before your rival shows your character.

I picked this team to go 10-2 with a guaranteed loss to FSU and another loss to SC, ASU or Stanford. Stanford's in the rear view mirror, SC is a train wreck and thin, ASU has no D and QB issues. I believe in this team, I'd still bet they go 11-1 with a loss at FSU but it is not a given any longer.

This game against UNC is the game that is going to answer that final question for me: What is the true character of this team? Are they going to be in control but make some sloppy plays like 'Cuse and to some extent Stanford or are they going to put it all together and send a message to the Noles that a talented, well prepared and highly focused team is heading south to win a National Championship playoff game.

I think ND is going to steamroll UNC.

Switzer has had two decent games in a row, but he hasn't set the world on fire, either. With how well Farley has been playing, especially against screens and underneath stuff, I'm not worried about it.

If Switzer starts getting deep and abusing him? Different story, but nothing some adjustments can't solve. Plus, it's been a while since I watched them, but I think Switzer's best highlights come on short stuff and then making something happen after the catch, or on complete busted coverage. Not worried about either of those things... just his punt-return ability. But Brindza kept it away from Montgomery well, so I'm confident there as well.

Agreed on all this. If Switzer will be used for screens and underneath stuff, Farley will likely be just fine. If Switzer is going to try to take him deep, I'll be nervous.

Another thing to think about as well is Rashard Greene plays in the slot sometimes. I mean i love Farley as we all do but no, we need to keep the big plays to a minimum Winston likes to go deep & so will the Tar Heels

Just want Irish to handle their biz and move on. Heels will definitely present some challenges.
Can't wait for a trip to Chapel Hill, the campus is nice.

This has upset special written all over it.

Perhaps.......

Lethal weapons on the offense. First true dual-threat QB. and our offense that has been sputtering and shooting itself in the foot the last three games.

I don't think our offense sputtered, or shot itself in the foot, against Stanford. They put up 17 points on a defense that was allowing less than a TD a game; and they left quite a few more points on the field.

The offense could have played better, sure. But I don't think it sputtered or shot itself in the foot.

Besides, NC is giving up 42 points a game. 42!! I think this offense puts up 35 in its sleep.

Let's hope our young men are ready to play on Saturday or we'll all be pointing fingers: at the OLine, Golson, WR drops, defensive failures, etc.

Unfortunately, I think you are dead on, with this one.

The way i see it is the Tar Heels offense is a great tune up before Florida State.

I was thinking the other day. How many schools have a 6'5" 220lb qb on their roster that can give the defense a realistic look for FSU?

I know vangorder and the red hat nation allow DK to be down with first team O, but I have a feeling he'll be running the scout team this week and next.

Yes, it is. I was at the ND-UNC game in Chapel Hill in 2008. Though the game didn't turn out the way we wanted, the road trip was great. I'd go again in a heartbeat. We play at Virginia next season---another beautiful campus. I hope to make it to that game.

IDK where to put this, but Stanford looks awesome right now against WSU.

I'm still thinking we have a slow start and its 17-14 at half before we blow them out 45-17. I would love to see us take it to them early though.

Dude, Chris Fowler is the absolute king of back-handed compliments. I literally cannot stand him.

Now Herbie says all of us wanted Zaire? Wtf. Give me a break...

I think he used the term "many". But even that is an exaggeration. I think we were excited that Zaire was supposedly that close in talent to Golson, because that meant we had two quality QB's. But I don't think I heard of hardly anyone actively rooting for Zaire over Golson.

Only the idiots who get overly excited from Spring game results were calling for Zaire.

Herbstriet gave us love, Desmond and Fowler could only talk about how we haven't played anyone.

To be fair:

Herbstreit clarified his comments, explaining that he was saying that this team had a ton of new faces in starting positions, to begin the season. And even more guys that "we" (non-ND fans) didn't know anything about. Despite that, he thinks that ND is one of the better teams in the country, and that's a testament to the job that VanGorder and Kelly have done. Desmond is a tool who hates ND, but he rightfully observed that ND had not faced a really good offense yet, so the jury is still out on just how good the Defense is.

Chris Fowler can suck a fat dick.

Yup. The worst thing is we're going to have to endure him next Saturday night. He will be salivating to take shots at ND if all of his bullshit and digs come to fruition in Tallahassee.

Corso even said we should be #1 if we beat FSU on the road, jumping the winner of Auburn Miss St.

Lol so commentators are supposed to not only have the pulse of 128 fanbases, but perform a qualitative analysis and only base their statements on how intelligent individual subsets of those fanbases are, based on arbitrary criteria defined by rocket66.

Right...

If you've been paying any attention, they don't really have to know anything outside of the top half of the SEC East/West. Clock it one time if you don't believe me. See how long they spend talking about the SEC out of the 3 hour show.

But about their ND hate, for half of the overrated SEC teams to start the year, where was the 'who have they played' argument? It's not there, and if it is, it's burried after a plethora of compliments. Zero compliments for ND from Howard and Fowler, just jumping straight to the 'who have they played'.
