I take Brady's refusal to take even a one game suspension as a sign that Kessler feels he has an excellent case to make in court, which has me unreasonably excited.

Once the NFL didn't just fine the Patriots organization 25k the week after the AFC Championship, this ending up in court was the best thing for the Patriots and Brady - they get to put the NFL's incompetence and malfeasance on display for the world to see.

Yeah, it does not seem the CBA authorizes the punishment the NFL has chosen. IIRC, the four games number comes from being likened to a steroid suspension. Once the league chooses to follow that logic, shortening the suspension upon appeal undercuts their own theory as it would no longer conform to the PED scenario.

That has been the hangup for the last week.

Look, this was either going to be four or none. Goodell wasn't going to drop the number of games only to be sued, and Brady wasn't going to accept anything other than an exoneration. People reacting to this like it is news is surprising - this has been expected for months and was a formality on the road to a legal battle.

I don't completely buy it (although I certainly want to believe it), but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of celebrities do this. Justin Verlander of all people got hacked a year ago because he has a famous/attractive girlfriend. I wouldn't be shocked if getting a new phone every couple of months isn't a "celebrity trick" to avoid being hacked. Ed Werder from ESPN tweeted that he destroys his phones often, but keeps the sim cards. Who knows? A lawsuit/statement should be coming soon, so maybe that will shed some light.
