Upheld. Phone was destroyed.

I'd have banned him for more games.

So Brady rejected a deal for a one game suspension, and the NFL has responded by upholding the suspension - as expected. No we go to court. I take Brady's refusal to take even a one game suspension as a sign that Kessler feels he has an excellent case to make in court, which has me unreasonably excited.

Once the NFL didn't just fine the Patriots organization 25k the week after the AFC Championship, this ending up in court was the best thing for the Patriots and Brady - they get to put the NFL's incompetence and malfeasance on display for the world to see.

Yeah, it does not seem the CBA authorizes the punishment the NFL has chosen. IIRC, the four games number comes from being likened to a steroid suspension. Once the league chooses to follow that logic, shortening the suspension upon appeal undercuts their own theory as it would no longer conform to the PED scenario.

That has been the hangup for the last week.

Look, this was either going to be four or none. Goodell wasn't going to drop the number of games only to be sued, and Brady wasn't going to accept anything other than an exoneration. People reacting to this like it is news is surprising - this has been expected for months and was a formality on the road to a legal battle.

I hope it's upheld if it goes to court. The Pats starting 3-1 with Jimmy Garoppolo just for Tom Brady to come back and stop the Colts on Sunday Night Football on their way to 13-3 and a first round bye would be the ultimate "fuck you" to the League.

Why in the world would Roger Goodell need to turn over his cell phone? This isn't like the Ray Rice situation where he was accused of knowing about the video before it was released. Goodell isn't under investigation

The Mueller investigation referenced in that tweet WAS the Ray Rice situation. Goodell did not turn over his cell phone in THAT case.

It said he didn't give up his phone in the Mueller investigation, which was the Ray Rice situation.

Anyways, if he did he would be an idiot, too. Anyone that cooperates with an investigation that could give rise to punitive action against them in the absence of a subpoena is a fool.

Wow.... I never thought Goodell would actually have the balls to uphold the 4 game suspension. I must admit, I am fukin shocked right now. As a Jets fan, I am happy as hell, cuz fuk Tom Brady, and fuk the Pats. But aside from that, I am absolutely shocked.

Pretty common for famous people, business executives, corporations, etc.

So as a result of the investigation he destroyed his phone? Or he routinely destroys his phones to protect the info?

Doesn't all of that info stay with the phone company anyway? What's the point lol?

NFL says the former, Brady says the latter.

A decent hacker could get loads of private stuff off of a junked phone that hasn't had the hardware destroyed.

If he routinely destroys his phone, I'd hunch that he has someone fry the hardware.

Are you really comparing a celebrity to business security protocol?

If you really believe that Brady routinely destroys his phone (personally mind, not hiring an electronic recycler to do it) simply to protect his privacy, then I have a bridge I would like to sell you.

You'll buy whatever bullshat narrative floats out of Foxborough, no matter how dumb it is...

If he really was that concerned, he would have a professional destroy his phone. He wouldn't just break it and hope for the best. He would want to make sure it was correctly done and all information was wiped from the device and the cloud first.

It's a complete bullshat excuse. Plus, it would mean that he destroyed it AFTER the request was made for it.

Source? Serious request.
There are entire companies built on providing that service.

“What? Destroy Our Assets? Why Small Businesses Must Kill Old Technology

No matter the size of your business, and no matter the number of devices you have, secure IT asset disposition makes sense. Iron Mountain can:

-Destroy retired hardware, including computers, phones, copiers, scanners, A/V equipment, hard drives, backup tapes and other electronic storage media

-Improve your audit readiness using workflows that include security personnel assigned to monitor the destruction process

-Ensure secure transport for all devices and related media scheduled for offsite destruction, with 24/7 GPS tracking and thoroughly vetted drivers

-Avoid inadvertent information disclosures by destroying all data using the right method at the right time

Iron Mountain partners with an e-Stewards® certified Electronic Recycler. This ensures that its auditable destruction process does not include exporting waste, incineration or burying materials in landfills.

It's a complete bullshat excuse.
Of course it is. But "fuck you, I'm not giving you my phone" is all Tom Brady needs to say without a subpoena.

I don't completely buy it (although I certainly want to believe it), but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of celebrities do this. Justin Verlander of all people got hacked a year ago because he has a famous/attractive girlfriend. I wouldn't be shocked if getting a new phone every couple of months isn't a "celebrity trick" to avoid being hacked. Ed Werder from ESPN tweeted that he destroys his phones often, but keeps the sim cards. Who knows? A lawsuit/statement should be coming soon, so maybe that will shed some light.

As bad as it looks, it damages him more in the public eye than it does anything to his court case.

It would be a bad "trick" then... Verlander and all of the other "Fappening" people got hacked through the cloud. Destroying their phone like Brady did wouldn't have helped them one bit.

Sure. I just think it's feasible to think that he does it on a regular basis. He is a celebrity and he's married to a super model. And if he does it, I bet he does it correctly. Now, if he just stuck the thing in a blender or something, that's different.

The other thing I read is that he "routinely destroys his phones," and yet he still has his 2nd to last phone from before the investigation and the destruction of his newer phone.
