He'll go to New York where his career will die.

Supposedly teams are offering him $11-$12 mil a year. Pittsburgh offered him $14 mil a year and he turned that down. He's wanting $18-$20 mil per year. His masterplan might blow up in his face.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">ESPN's Dianna Russini said on NFL Live that "most GMs" around NFL believe offers to free agent Le'Veon Bell are "coming in around $11-12 million" per year, and that's obviously well short of what Bell wants.</p>— Evan Silva (@evansilva) <a href="https://twitter.com/evansilva/status/1105540864812695552?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 12, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

James Conner having a good year definitely didn’t help him. I want to see how much guaranteed money he gets, apparently that was a hang up with Pittsburgh’s offer.

That’s my fear, although I think he’s still good enough to be a top fantasy back.

ACamp, requesting permission to officially change from the Bengals to the Browns?

For the record, I said that Baker would pull the Browns from the ashes if they drafted him, and now look at them. He is The Prince That Was Promised.

Feeling the same way. My guess is this is strictly for depth.

I don't see Ballard making any "real" moves until after the draft when he knows what he has and what he needs that the draft didn't supply.

I'm thinking depth too, but that's a lot of money for depth. I would have rather paid a little more longer term for a guy like Tate with proven production.

He was slightly more productive than Moncrief, and got a slightly better deal than Moncrief. It seems like they're following a financial outline pretty well.

it's just super meh to me (in terms of need, and value). and it's gross simply because he's from scUM.

OBJ to Browns?!?!?!?

LeVeon's agent should not be able to help make financial decisions ever again.

This was probably 50-50. Another example of a player who clouds their thinking with their own belief of what they are worth compared to other players and his agent on a mission to prove his client is not just a RB. They deserve each other.

Honestly though, that year off might have been worth holding off for the extra $2M guaranteed, based on the miles he put on his body with Pittsburgh. It gave him a year away to get fresh, and he probably wouldn't have made it to the end of the big contract he wanted anyway.

Even missing huge chunks of two seasons, and another season entirely, Bell has the 3rd most touches of any player since he came into the league. That's crazy usage.

With his new contract, he's got less money in the long term, but got more guaranteed over the short term, which it seems like he wanted in the first place.

I hate paying for guys who suddenly find themselves in a contract year, but a second rounder next year after a Super Bowl win isn't that expensive. Our cap space is quickly fading away especially once Mr. Thomas comes aboard.

That's some funny shit right there.

No. There is no way, short or long, to conclude Bell got what he wanted. Pro players have limited years to make use of their athleticism and Bell just threw one in the trash, expecting his new contract to make up for it.

He forfeited nearly $15 million for sitting out this year. He also turned down 5 year/$70 million deal with $33 guaranteed in exchange for a 4 year deal worth $52 million base ($61m with incentives) and $35m guaranteed.

If he manages to stay healthy the next 4 years and maxes out the numbers, he still potentially left $24 million on the table. Now that doesn't include the contract he could sign after his 4th year is up but he'll be 31 at a position that doesn't age well.

This was the kind of decision that usually results in people getting fired but I'm guessing people will find a way to say the owners colluded against him. Or that people hate a free-thinking black man.

Bell overvalued himself and overplayed his hand. I hope he's considering a different agent.

So, a little confusion on my part with Bell's failed deal with the Steelers. Was it play last year on franchise tag and then the 5 year 70 Mil after that? Or was the franchise tag more like a short term placeholder like what the Cowboys are trying to do with D. Lawrence, in the event that a long term deal can't get done?

Chiefs release Eric Berry with a post June 1 designation saving $9.5 mill in cap space after that time. The Dee Ford trade saved $15 mill against the cap and netted a second rounder next year. Berry had three years to go on a six year contract at $13 mill/yr. He will be missed in KC. Matthieu who replaced him is signed for three years at $14 mill/yr with no guaranteed money in the third year.

Going to Cleveland?

Different teams are in different situation w.r.t. cap space, dead money, and contracts. Hopefully for the Browns, Dorsey has learned from his time in K.C. where he used up all the cap space and tied up players with long term contracts. Berry got a six year, $78 million deal with a cap hit of $7.25 million 2019 salary guarantee that would have kicked in Friday. Chiefs will realize $9.55 million in cap savings this year on June 2. Berry will count $6.95 million toward this year's cap, $8 million in 2020. That's dead money.

As a result of releasing Justin Houston, the Chiefs save the $14 million against the cap and $15.5M in cash in 2019. Houston will account for $7.5 million in dead money.

Dee Ford would have been a free agent but was franchised, which resulted in a trade that netted a second rounder next year. Ford finished his first contract, but he would have counted $15 million against the cap if the Chiefs had not found a partner in the 49ers.

So, KC shed long-term contracts in three of the four highest paid Chiefs, including the franchise money. Allen Bailey - also a highly paid player - came off the books as a free agent this year. Their cap space went from $20 million to $32 million with $9 more after June 1. They replace Berry with Mathieu.

Depending on the contracts Houston and Berry sign, the Chiefs may also net a couple of third or fourth rounders in compensatory picks next year along with the second rounder in the trade for Ford and their other picks. With a first and two second rounders this year, they have the draft capital to move up.

Cleveland won big-time in free agency, turning around the franchise, using their cap space ($80-100 million?), which is now at $40 million. They have $18 mill in dead money.

Meanwhile, New England waits, targeting only a few free agents,, twelve draft picks due to four compensatory picks, and $12 mill in cap space. Plenty of draft capital. N.E. traded for Michael Bennett, signed Phillip Dorsett and Jason McCourty, are among the three favs for Golden Tate and are interviewing DE Alvin Bailey and TE Matt LaCosse.

Oakland was also a big winner in free agency.

I imagine all are happy.

I’m pretty sure that if you release a player then you don’t qualify for a compensatory pick for them. So I don’t think KC will get any compensation no matter how big the contracts that Berry and Houston sign.
