Mishawaka Marian or Penn are the only two local schools that are great. There isn't a good highschool in South Bend.

Seems like they could probably afford to pay for private schools if they don't like the local school districts.
Doubt if he’s Catholic. Really aren’t any other private schools in SB besides them. Penn school district is separate from SB and considered good, probably at least as good as what he’s looking at in Athens.
Not sure how old his kids are but getting into ND might be part of the pitch.

Highly doubt if a guy like this is going to be an OLine coach for long however

With family being important, who better than MF to show ND is about family?

I think this gets done.

I doubt it’s about the quality of the local public schools so much as about uprooting high school aged kids to a whole new place.
I realize coaching is a nomadic profession but it can be tough on kids, especially at that age.

Alternatively he could probably get a job closer to where they live now and they stay put. Didn’t Heistand do similar? Keep his family in south bend when he was coaching w/the Bears. And thought I read that Golden’s family still lives in Cincy.

I hope this works out but if it doesn’t it’ll probably be for that very legit reason, and hard to blame Freeman/Swarbrick for that.

I think it would be a great hire, can’t see it happening. Guy just left coaching to spend more time with his family. Would be a huge coup.

It was self care, family, etc. No info on it but from plenty of personal experience, there could have been some anxiety and/or depression baked into it.

If that was the case, he could have got it sorted out with therapy/meds and might be ready to go. A healthier work environment like ND could provide the reset he’s looking for.

I think you'll see this more. I'm just a HS baseball coach and the time demands of coaching have gotten to be extreme. Can't even imagine what it's like at the D1 level.

The UGA site is skeptical. Of course, they think them and Bama are the only teams that have a shot at the title (not all that wrong) so they can't fathom him going elsewhere. Rusty Mansell on their 247 site says he's played over 2000 rounds of golf in the last 365 days and has enjoyed tailgating for the first time. I assume hyperbole, but sounds like he's enjoying his life. Trying to keep my expectations low here.

Exactly. I just don't see how this happens.

Not going to get my hopes up until I see something more solid, but this would be an absolute slam dunk hire.

Luke has so much clout with OL players and recruits. If you want to be an OL-driven program, this is the hire you make to firmly plant your nuts on the table to back that up.

Why do Georgia fans even care about what he does? He's not on their staff anymore. That'd be like us getting bothered if Jeff Quinn interviewed elsewhere.

Sounds like he was still around the program quite a bit. Tailgating every Saturday. Plays golf everyday with current coaches and former players. Apparently one of the good ol boys.

Dawg fans are a special breed, man. Anyone that doesn't share their devotion is view skeptically.

They probably struggle with the idea that a coach would step away from that program at its peak, only to turn around and take a different job a year later.

Looked at his OL recruiting history... started thinking about how ND OL recruiting could hit a new level... started thinking about how Luke could probably leverage his relationships in the south for better recruiting at ALL positions...

the fact that footballscoop knows about it (was leaked) is either a really good thing or a really bad thing right?

seriously 46 is pretty young to retire. I know he's had some healthy buyouts to live off of and prolly a decent coaching salary, but I'd think he'd want to maybe do something.

Because he retired from football and apparently wasn’t expected to return? They probably didn’t want to hear it that he was retiring and now he’s interviewing to coach again.

Jeff Quinn? More like HH retiring and then announces he’s going to coach at LSU. It would just ruffle some peoples feathers.
