It's certainly not the sexiest.
I kind of view it as he probably has the highest floor of any of the names out there. Plus, if you look at LSU this year, the ceiling is pretty high. And, he'd bring stability. Maybe someone like Hartline has a higher ceiling. But, nobody knows. And, if he does actually have a high ceiling and does well he's probably gone quickly to be a HC.

Whatever I think or have thought about Kiffin, I can admit the guy knows offense and comes from an offensive background.

He's had Charlie Weis Jr. on his staff twice now. Sampson listing him isn't totally far fetched.

We’ve reached bizarro a world where the board is hoping we hire someone from the BK coaching tree, myself included lol. I’m just wondering if the Mike Brown hire had any back channeling of this being a real possibility. Tin foil hat time, I know. Still pretty damn excited we get a do over at this position at the exact right time for the program.

I think most people scoffed at the Jayden Daniels pickup, including me when it first happened. I didn't think it'd produce anything close to this. So we can certainly give Jayden credit for being gifted but who turned him into the best QB in the country? It certainly wasn't ASU.

You watched all of the games this year. The numbers are incredible but were his receivers making unbelievable plays on poorly thrown balls and picking up monster YAC that most other WRs wouldn't be capable of? You have to help us because following one team takes up enough of my time.

It sure seems like Jayden took a massive leap when plugged into an offense with a coordinator who could maximize his skillset. Completion percentage took a huge jump, as did his overall production.

With our current coaching staff, I believe he'd be the best possible fit. He knows the university, Freeman, most of the staff and he's very experienced with multiple types of QBs. ND has some unique QBs with different skillsets that an experienced coordinator could maximize (Minchey is different than Carr who is different than Leonard who is different than Deuce). I just can't imagine having an offense that was 80-90% of LSU's this year to complement our defense.
their qb coach was cited as his biggest developer of him w/ LSU

Denbrock has the rare honor of being groomed by both Kelly and Tyrone Willingham.

I think that we should probably look at the broader picture here. We have an opportunity to not only hire a coach that has offensive coordinator experience from the NFL but we can also improve the NBC broadcast...

What does this mean? Who cited it? And who called the plays that allowed Daniels to execute?

Certainly, there are always multiple factors that go into a player raising their completion percentage 10 pts but doesn't it seem disingenuous to give the QB coach the biggest credit for his play? We want a great QB coach but a great QB coach with a bad gameplan probably doesn't do much.

Jayden may have been the one to say the QB coach was instrumental and that's a great thing. But are you suggesting Denbrock had less to do with the Jayden and the offense than the QB coach?

I like that list. Would be pretty excited about any of them.
You could've given me 100 guesses and I never would have guessed Jason Candle was on that list for potential hires, but if he does indeed get snuffed for a P5 (4) job again this offseason, might not be as crazy as it seems. Unless he's happy running the show for a MAC school. He's done a heckuva job at Toledo.

If he has higher aspirations, OC at ND is not a bad way to boost his exposure.

Candle was supposedly up for the job last time, and interested.

I truly believe that this is a 2nd chance for Freeman and he know it. He's also not bound by the calenday in a way that he was last year. Remember - Rees left in Feb with spring ball starting in March. Time is on Freeman's side this time and he saw, like the rest of us, what happens when you go bargain bin diving...

100%. I'm not sure this is the best hire. It's certainly not the sexiest. But I can say with certainty that if we had Denbrock this past season, ND is preparing for a NY6 bowl game at a MINIMUM.

So many coaches stay inside their coaching circle, and we all know that Freeman is more than comfortable going outside of "who he knows" in hopes of obtaining a coach. I don't believe Freeman had any connections to Ludwig at all. So, that said, having a prior relationship or a rapport with a coach isn't a necessity. That drastically opens up the targets. I think it'll be a established, big name guy that'll surprise most. Someone where everyone is okay and comfortable with. It'll be a big hire.

A friend of a friend of a buddy of a sister who goes to....anyway...someone said Darin Hinshaw is a sleeper pick, even though the paths at Cincinnati never crossed.

It's unlikely if the reports are to be believed from last year. Supposedly he used ND as leverage but had every intention of staying in Utah. I have no idea why it'd be any different this time around. Would think that'd leave a sour taste in everyone's mouths who took bad publicity from trotting him out at ND games, believing a deal was imminent.
No ND just screwed up bad last year

Interesting. He was at UC under Tuberville and worked with Eddie Gran both there and at UK. He actually called plays despite not being the OC. Gran was the on field coach and Hinshaw was up in the booth.

It would not be the worst thing in the world. He knows how to run an offense.
