With that Staples shoe deal idea, I wonder if it would make it more likely ND chooses to stay with Under Armour or goes with someone like Lululemon (which he mentioned in the article) over Adidas or Nike because the former companies are apparel first and would likely see more value in a deal than the latter which are primarily shoe companies, so they might see more value in the shoe component and less in the apparel component.

Staples also said that UA is looking to get out of college sports.

That seemed like more of a throwaway line that shouldn't really be taken as UA will not sign any more college deals, especially since it seems like they at least tried to get us to resign during the negotiating window.

Puma time
Not sure if you're joking, but I LOVE their golf polos.
New Balance makes some really comfy shoes.
Adidas make the best golf shorts.

I thought Jordan Brand was just a division of Nike?
Why is everyone talking like it's a separate company?

Not sure if I should admit this, but I have over forty pairs of New Balance trail running shoes.
Lightweight, aggressive tread, comfy, really cool colors!

I walk 4-6 round of golf a week and go through shoes like a hot knife through butter.

Maybe if you learned to 2 putt you could cut back to ~30 pairs

I know we’re just having some fun at this point, but in all seriousness I think some type of a NDxChampion apparel collab would be well received for both fans and recruits. You tie in the nostalgia for us on the boards and Champion is absolutely hot right now in pop culture. I laugh inwardly every day when I see at least a dozen kids rocking high end Champion gear at school, thinking that you couldn’t even give Champion stuff away to kids a decade ago.

It has to be Nike or Adiddas. People have to really to outfit ND is a huge task and very expensive. Notre Dame has a ton of athletic teams and this deal is for the entire athletic program so they would need to be able to outfit all of them. Sorry to the lululemon or new balance people but it ain’t happening

I disagree—specifically when it comes to Lululemon. ND has apparel deals with outfits like Antigua and Colosseum. There’s nothing stopping them from partnering with Lulu or Champion. They won’t be a primary outfitter for shoes or uniforms, but they absolutely could get the license for merch.

Outfitting athletic teams, and creating merch you sell in the bookstore, are two pretty different things though, aren't they?
Champion still makes Notre Dame t-shirts. (I have one. It's my gameday lucky shirt.) They could do more on the apparel front. Or Lulu could start making ND yogawear and shit.
But yeah those companies aren't doing sneakers and probably not uniforms, for actual athletes. I like the idea of the players cutting their own sneaker deals. That'd then give us more options for the uniforms (which are more interesting, IMO)

This is true, but the primary deal would have to be finalized first so they would know what they could and couldn't produce.

I can NOT get behind Lulu Lemon. My aunts nickname is Lulu…nothing more intimidating than a lululemon fighting Irish team. How many of the last NC teams were w Nike?! ND wanna run a the big boys, it’s time, it’s been time! Nike

Auburn used to rock Russell Athletic back in the day; are they still around?

In all seriousness, ND needs to go with Nike / Jordan. I honestly think this matters to more recruits than you’d realize — hell, it can be argued that Oregon built their entire football program using their uniforms as its linchpin. You’ll never lose out on a recruit because your contract is with Nike. Whether you like it or not, Nike is the “standard” for football apparel. The NFL and overwhelming number of college teams have embraced the Nike brand.

Also, I honestly think there is nothing wrong with the Under Armour Notre Dame uniforms and apparel — especially the apparel the players and coaching staff is provided with. It always looks really sharp, and they’ve kept ND’s classic look.

Champion Brands peak revenue was $99.4M in 2022.

one is not like the other....

NIKE revenue for the twelve months ending February 28, 2023 was $50.626B, a 8.13% increase year-over-year.

Champion makes sweatshirts. They don't make uniform apparel anymore, let alone f'n shoes. You old heads need to move on from the Champion/ glory days obsession.
