I know they updated them not to long ago, but does anyone else think they may need to start planning another upgrade sometime soon to keep up with the other big boys in the NCAA?

They are more than fine. They need to get turf and upgrade the stadium. Thats the biggest thing.

Are you talking about all of NDs facilities or just the football facilities? I might be with you that they need to make a couple updates to the stadium, but overall I think the University has great athletic facilities. Check out the new hockey arena if you have any doubts.

Football is the sole reason that the school is a premier academic institution and not the Dayton of northern Indiana. It shouldn’t be as hard as it is to allocate resources accordingly.

I guess Brian Polian bitching about facilities really moved the needle…

I know people like to shit on Polian, but I really appreciated that he was willing to go on the record and talk about the facilities without it being just an LSU plug. Acknowledged that for most kids it wasn't a deciding factor but it is a factor and ND is behind. That sort of stuff moves the needle.

Easy to run your mouth after the fact. Hopefully he fails as an AD. He was an absolute lazy recruiter and special teams coach his last go round here.

I tend to agree. I thought he came off measured and factual in that article. I just thought the timing of his interview and then the info that “there’s a plan in the works” was hilarious.

I've said similar things over the years. I wouldn't go so far as to say football is the only reason you're who you are, but for most of the country, football is what made them aware of you. If it wasn't for football, ND wouldn't have 1/10th the fame and name recognition it does. It just blows my mind that the powers that be won't build on that and support it completely, and instead seem embarrassed by it. It's not like doing so would diminish your academic rep. It wouldn't impact it negatively at all. It didn't back in the 60's or 70's. It wouldn't now. I just don't get why the admin treats football like an afterthought.

They've lined their pockets with mediocre facilities and an average team for the last three decades. Why stop now?

I felt the same way when I heard Prister talk about his interview. He’s coached at 2 of the more rigorous academic p5 programs in the country & then at one of the elite football factories. That’s more perspective than any of us have.

“Oh, absolutely,” said Swarbrick, when asked if he agreed that “The Gug” is past the point of necessary renovation. “It’s a priority.
“I am committed to getting the operations building up to the standard of some of the best in the country. We have a plan. The university is about to start its new initiative and it will be part of that. It’s all about raising the money now.”

Does UNLV have better facilities than ND?

They have better donors. Too bad ND doesn't have a booster like this Fertitta guy whose name is on the building. Must be nice to have someone like that to fork over the big coin.
