I made the regrettable decision to check in with NDNation (for the fifth or sixth time in my life - I don't make this mistake much) to see what they were saying about the field turf rumors from earlier today. Their reaction was pretty much what you'd expect, but while I was there I figured I'd see what else they were talking about, and starting reading their reaction to AA's commitment to the Irish.

For the most part, I was actually impressed that the mouth-breathers over there played it straight and did not use the occasion to forward some twisted argument that Kelly should be fired (one guy even seemed to be complimenting Kelly for the job he is doing recruiting in a roundabout kind of way).

But the reason I am reporting back here on my visit to NDN is because of the racist comments by one NDN poster in particular, "jt". Is anybody here enough of a frequent visitor to NDN that they can tell me if I missed a joke somewhere or if this guy has a reputation for this kind of thing? Almost as bad is that other NDN posters don't even slap him around for this foolishness. Here is a sample of the garbage this guy was coming with:

That is good news. he might be of northern Italian lineage. Those guys are still a bit on the dumb side but they're not as dishonest as their brethren to the south. [in response to the news that AA committed to the Irish]

when the moon hits your eye like-a big pizza pie...that's Anzalones

The WOPs used to be the elite athletes but then they made too much headway; instead of becoming laborers the kids went to school and became lawyers and doctors. Worst of all, they started marrying the honkies and the athletic prowess disappeared in the subsequent generations. It's sad, really. Of course, at least they were worth a **** athletically at one point. The Irish don't even have that to hang their shillelagh on.

There are numerous other posts in the thread by other posters with hints of racism, too, but this guy was the most egregious.

Here is a link to the thread: NDNation: Anzalone commitment

Anybody know if there is an explanation for this beyond outright bigotry on a public message board ostensibly about ND football?

Rhode, I checked it out and don't think he was actually speaking with animosity. It got started when someone commented that he was "pigmentally challenged" (how white he is) and then "jt" picked it up and became "that guy" who picks up the joke and takes it too far....

Not that I should be defending regular posters of NDN, nor do I ever visit that site except to watch meltdowns much like yourself, especially when field turf is mentioned. What would those posters do if Kelly did the unthinkable, and ever won a championship? Or even just a BCS game for that matter?

Today marks an important day my friends.

I, despite my better judgement, went over to ndnation this morning. When I saw that some dumb@ss was asking if Chizik would be a good replacement for Kelly on a day where we are playing a major game as a ranked team, I figured that I couldn't help but to respond.

That is when I found out.... I have been officially banned!

Now, I didn't break a single rule of theirs, nor have I even posted in over six months, but I found it ironic on a day where we could possibly have our biggest win in decade...I see that they banned me. I could do two things:

1) reset my ip address and create a new user name of "ACrossmyBallz" on NDnation.

2) laugh maniacly as they stumble to figure out reasons to fire a 3-0 coach aiming towards the BCS.

Someone should start a "FREE WOOLY" thread over there. Haha

The only people who haven't been banned from NDNation are angry, right wing conservatives who are never happy. They are composed of two camps: Camp one is Across, Kabong, Cash and JVAN who control all information. Camp two are the followers, who kiss their *** and make sure to follow the party line. You obviously didn't follow the party line. Good for you.

I like to bust balls with the best of them. There is a difference between joking around with your buddies and making racist comments on a message board.

Well, I certainly agree that those remarks about Italian-Americans are offensive ... but I try just to ignore what those wackos are saying over there. A number of my friends from college are frequent posters/readers at NDNation and they are just brainwashed and totally unreasonable. Sad that that silliness is associated with ND for the whole world to see.

FREE WOOLY ... but then again, maybe its better to be a rebel. Getting kicked out of their club is somewhat like being banned from the neo-Nazi party ... I don't support their wacked-out ideology and I'd almost rather be banned so everyone knows where I stand. I knew this gay rights activist who hated being in liberal places ... he'd say, "I really hate being accepted." Haha. I always admired that.

We all know these guys are more what's wrong with ND fans than what's right but I love all the humble pie and crow eating that's taking place over there. Things are being said like "This is the first time during the Kelly era I see progress." or "Finally I have hope BK isn't just an overrated HS coach." or "Kelly finally proved me wrong!"... Really!? This is the first time you've seen progress!? I don't about all of you but I saw progress from BK's first year all the way up until last night. The team is tougher (both mentally and physically), more athletic and definitely faster. I mean we actually had CB's laying out and making plays last night! It was fun to watch. And for someone who has followed BK since his days at GVSU I know this guy is the real deal. Has he made questionable calls and mistakes? Yes. But I think he is finally at the point where he knows how to manage the expectations of being the HC at ND. There are only a few other jobs out there that can really prepare you for that and now that he has seemed to figure it out I say look out baby here come the Irish! As fans I say we double down our support for the man and this team because this schedule is brutal and I still think we may finish 9-3 or 8-4. We need to exercise patience and humility but man the future is bright friends!

**Of course all the "positive" words over at NDNation come with one very big caveat. If they lose to Michigan all of BK's good will shall be erased and he's once again a fool who should be replaced by their short list of Saban, Gruden, or Stoops (haha Saban, I love their naivety)... What a bunch of *******s.

Guys at NDN are now hinting that their criticisms of the program have helped Kelly turn it around. Haha. Talk about living in a bubble.

Wait, what!?? Those sociopaths actually think Kelly, or anyone within Kelly's staff who would pass on such criticisms to him, actually read ND Nation's board? That is the most narcissistic thing I've heard from them, and there's a lot of narcissism over there.

Actual thread. This guys are f*cking sociopaths. I mean they really think they have a lot to do with Kelly's coaching at ND.

Kudos to Kelly so far this year

Not just for being 3-0.

I think he has learned to control his emotions better on the sidelines when adversity strikes, and think he has dealt with the media better. In particular, he has punted on questions about crowd noise and game day environment (music, turf, etc) and squarely stated that playing well and winning will take care of the environment.

Here's to hoping he continues, and here's to hoping he kicks some *** on Saturday night.

You may be joking, but...
In his press conferences and more recent public statements, Kelly seems to respond to the themes and criticisms that we discuss here on NDNation.

Bob Davie was even more transparent. Not only did he read the site, it nearly killed him.

by God-Country-ND (2012-09-20 16:26:31)
Interesting
I always wonder how much of this stuff they read or at least learn about second hand. Funny about Davie - wonder if he just chuckled at the negative posts or actually used it as motivation. Whatever approach he took, it didn't work.

I think find it funny that people got so pissed about Kelly going nuts on the sidelines. If my team was playing like that I would be going ape sh!t also. If this season has shown anything so far, it's that we very easily should have been a ten win team last year. Kelly couldn't believe these guys were showing such poise in practice and then crapping down their legs in games.

Delusions of grandeur aside, the thing that is so annoying about a lot of those guys is that they think they are great fans, when, in fact, all they do is criticize when we lose and praise when we win. Nothing more, nothing less. They act like they are al the ultimate fans, but the rest of the world calls that kind of crap "fair weather..."

Not that this is unique to their site--college football is all about hyperbole (i.e., Kiffin is a winner, Muschamp sucks)--but NDNation is the worst because they have created an echo chamber that really tries to drown out any dissent. In that regard, it is the most boring ND site on the web by far. The front page should say:

"If you are the kind of guy who likes to post short, snarky, posts, that bash the Irish in consultant speak, please sign-up. If you prove that you are willing to agree with us all the time about everything, you will be invited into our main forum where you can add your witicisms to our cute little chain posts."

There are probably 3 of 4 guys worth reading. (I like SEE for example).

Also, I visit sometimes just to see what they're saying when I'm bored at work, and I wanted to see how they would justify trying to fire BK the day after the MSU win. It was actually comical seeing some of the things some of their posters were coming up with to nitpick and take any credit away from BK that they possible could. One guy took exception to the fact that BK called it a "signature win," saying that it doesn't matter that they beat a top ten team on the road. The only signature win is a national championship, duh.

Even Across is drinking the (cabernet)
Kool-aid today.

He's strategically placing himself.

Say we do really well the rest of the year. He can talk about how he saw it early, how he knew it was going to be a good year, and even Kelly couldn't screw it up.

If we loose, he can jump back off, saying how he's known it all along, that Kelly's a failure, that ND isn't dedicated to win at Football anymore, yada yada yada.

So true. He would literally say that. "I think it's great that the kids were able to come together and play so well. Not even Kelly, that dumb mick, could mess it up."

The best part about this is that they all love Saban. They would take him in a heart beat though I don't think any of them have actually watched a Bama game because Saban goes nuts on his players all the time. Even when they're up 35+ and the game is over.

What would we have done without them....

In all honesty the griping about Kelly's failings may have helped him. I wouldn't be surprised if he reads NDNATION or those close to him do. It seems like he has corrected some things that this board has specifically cited him for.

Bravo for recognizing your failings and correcting them. You can go quite far in life if that is strength.
