Some of it is hater, some of it is truth. He is just regurgitating what many college football fans out side of the immense Notre Dame fan base feel and think about the program. Not really anything new.

The reason Notre Dame is NOT irrelevant and will NEVER BE Irrelevant is because there are masses of douche nozzles aspiring to be sports commentators who know everything there is to know about Notre Dame. People that hate ND always know all of our players, stats, coaches, but I bet he doesn't remember his mom's birthday.
That's how ND haters roll. I think the hate is strong because they know the tides are fixin to turn like they ALWAYS do in college football (*cough Alabama *cough) and when they do, ND will be unstoppable.
Besides, the best way to shove something or someone into irrelevancy is to STFU talking about them and giving them attention, something the resident drama queen analysts cannot do, and would end up rocking on the floor with their thumbs in their mouths.

Rick Reilly is the self-aggrandizing, morality police ESPN equivalent to Bob Costas. The guy is a clown and that's why he's the source of jokes on Deadspin and why his outrageous ESPN contract isn't being renewed, as far as I know.
Read his articles. He writes as if he's some kind of superior being to everyone else. Remember - he's the moral authority on all things sports, so if you do too much celebrating, make a name for yourself, do a little too much self-promoting, watch out. There's going to be a Ricky Reilly moral compass diatribe coming for you.
Stick to writing about little league parents fighting each other or something else that no one cares about Rick. We don't need advice on what is "relevant" from you, the person ESPN sticks on it's golf coverage or in its magazine or on its website as if we give a **** what you have to say.

He's a clown, but it's not like he's telling tales, or misrepresenting facts. I'm Irish to the core, but we all need to take a big gulp of reality. ND is not irrelevant, but the FB program has been tier 2 at best the last 20 years. At this stage we are only relevant (FB terms) because of our fanbase and history. I'm glad to see clowns like this write the crap they write. Hopefully it increases the motivation factor and stimulates team performance. At the end of the day, just win, and all these clowns have to take a big gulp of STFU.

He said ND would go 6-5 this season ignoring the 12th game on the schedule, specifically because 6-5 looks worse than 7-5 in print and ultimately better in the context of his article. I would say that's misrepresenting facts. Hack journalism and bending fact to fit your premise at it's finest.
