Simple remedy for the old guys:

Bring in Oregon-type cheerleaders. Their Viagra will kick in before kick-off, and they will be raging all game long!!!

If I start getting poked in the back of the head, I'll be the one asking the older guys to, erm... keep it down.

*rimshot*

Thank you; I'll be here all week. Try the veal!

1. So how old do I have to be before I am summarily banished from the games because I am not "loud enough?"

2. Some of you guys want to get rid of the Victory March as the team enters the field in favor of Cathy Richardson and "some rock song?" Are you serious? Why don't we just change our name to the "University of Faddish Gimmicks?"

+1

I can't take that article seriously when Nevada is ranked higher than the likes of ND and Michigan.

Have you been to a game there?
Maybe you should ask Boise State how it is to play in Mackay Stadium.

I really think one of the big reasons is that they still sell beer inside the stadium (until half time). That adds to crowd noise!

I strongly prefer a game at ND, but the Wolf Pack crowd gets pretty wild. Great sound system, smoke, Vegas style production.

The bottom line is that ND hasn't put the teams on the field CONSISTENTLY that deserve the crowd to be going crazy. But that is changing fasts (so says I) and it will get back to the '87/'88 games where we used to get penalties (see Michigan).

i went for the first time last yr. two games oct.9th my b-day, and oct 16th...

both times in the stadium great ppl all cheering... first time pitt game is was section 17 looking toward touchdown jesus... GREAT VIEW amazing truly the greatest sight your eyes will ever see.. i had a bunch of young guys my age around us a few pitt fans that left early lol.. everyone was very cool all cheering waving for field goals eveything you can imagine push ups so on...

now the second game sat section 1 the real deal right by the tunnel... i sat by an ex student Rudy, and older lady, and a professer from ND with his son... now the oldest lady was cheering stading up as much as we were she had been in same seat section since the 60's her husband passed away a few yrs back so now she takes a member of their family to every game... To me that lady represented ND to the fullest...

don't spend time thinking about other folks do your own thing... didn't see one old folk sleeping, not cheering, asking ppl to set down..

Also the team doesn't enter to the Victory March really. The Victory March starts after the team enters. Playing something over the PA system or having someone sing isn't shitting on the Victory March at all.

Nevada's stadium only holds 30,000. Get real.

When I went to the Michigan ND game last year, I wouldn't have known what happend to Crist until after halftime had I not been able to text people. It was miserable. We had no idea if he got hit (which he did, or if he got pulled or what) A Jumbotron would be awesome for replays, music, updates, etc.

ND has to evolve as does any other program that wants to stay on top. Getting a jumbotron would not be disrespectful, or whatever else it has been called.

the only team flagged for crowd noise ND

Were we really the only team/crowd flagged for excessive noise/delay of game? If so, it is a point of pride.

It was a bullshyte call, nonetheless.

LOL!

I felt so bad last year. The Michigan game was packed, of course. And I'm certain too many fat guys were in my row. This poor old lady came to watch. She sat so0o0o far back in her seat.

Quick story: I got cramps in my legs to prevent myself from hurting her back from being yelled at to sit down by a nice older fella, behind me. Not letting my anger get the best of me, I complied not wanting to get thrown out.

The loser was the old lady. We stood up to cheer on one play, and she plopped back down in her seat, me forgetting her distance and I'm certain I heard a crack.

I'm still upset by both older folks. One was nearly handicap, the other a crass old bastard.

But I'm certain they both yelled!

Trying to see if this was true or not, but it appears that Michigan was in multiple games where the other team was flagged for excessive noise, mostly in the 80's. Now, no one was positive on the board about the exact teams, so maybe everyone was thinking about the ND game. It would be really cool if ND was the only one.

reno's stadium is a large high school stadium, and doesn't get very loud at all not even when their rivals come to reno.

If ND did the Jumbotron like they did at Yankee Stadium, then I'm all for it. By all accounts, the jumbotron was used in a matter to promote ND by showing old highlights and commercials about the school, for replays (I believe), and had no advertisements and any stupid games (like the race car games). Almost every single person that was there majorly approved of the way it was used.

Another thing I would LOVE to see that would get the crowd absolutely jacked is having the team in the tunnel, about to enter the stadium, with Cathy Richardson belting out (acapella), "And there's a magic, in the sound of their name............here comes the Iriiiiiiiiiiiiiiish......of Notre Dame!" Then as the song plays on, or a rock song blasts, the team flies out of the tunnel. I'm telling you, the crowd would go nuts. Bust this out, at night, against USC, and the TEAM will go nuts.

I know, a pipe dream...

That would be freaking outstanding!!!!!!!! Holy hell, that just gave me goosebumps. That and the kids in the stands chanting like years past.... "Here Come The Irish....Here Come The Irish....Here Come The Irish....". That would be unreal.

Would that be directly sung to you?

I would go crazy if I heard that, especially if it was dead quiet and all you hear is the song being sung.

You want good fun??? Go see a game at UTenn. Those people are off the hook. Extremely friendly and everyone is in the game for 60 minutes. By the way... UCLA and USuck play in friggin' cathedrals. Even during a sellout, USC is empty at one end in the Coliseum. Empty seats don't cheer....and neither do old people apparently.

Sorry late to the party but what neyland stadium have you been to? I go to the U of T and that place is the most consistently underwhelming place I've been to for football games. Everyone is either too drunk (young) or too busy sleeping (old) to actually watch the game and the majority of the student section doesn't show up till the second quarter and leaves during half time. It's the quietest 100 thousand+ stadium I've ever been to. It's completely shameful. Your average Tennessee fan knows the CHORUS of rocky top and peyton manning's name... that's it.

For example: I had a friend from Oregon come down to watch the game. Good guy, not a hater, really polite non confrontational guy. At the point in the game where Tennessee is BEATING a top 5 team and is trying to get a three and out on Oregon he looks at me (in the middle of the student section) and says "This place is so quiet."

I remember that game. My wife and I were almost speechless at how there was hardly any noise.

The atmosphere was amazing compared to any big game I've seen at ND stadium... ND is an outdoor, 80,000 people funeral most of the time. Don't wanna **** off the old time money donors by standing and rooting... Screw them. Let them sit in the parking lot, **** their diapers and gum some jello at 4 pm in the afternoon before bed at 6 pm.

I believe that's because they were still dealing with what is called Kiffin-itis.

I've been to Penn St, Mich, Wisc, USC, Tenn, Flor, and I gotta say Notre Dame measures up in terms of fan loudness

Someone really needs to bring a decibel reader to the games and bring some science to this discussion.
