I see how they can feel betrayed, but at the same time, I really don't give a crap.

This is some hilarious stuff.

"Brian Kelly proves that there is no chivalry anymore in college football." Seriously, he's like the 4,000th coach to ditch some crap school for an elite (if somewhat down) program.

*******

Some Cinci fan is claiming that when Notre Dame went to visit Hendrix in like the fourth week of the season (3-1, at the time), they held a secret interview with Brian Kelly for the job. Hahahaha.

I see how they feel upset but you dont hear Floyd or Shaq in interviews ranting and raving about how Jimmy left to go to the NFL or you dont hear Crist crying about how tate left. Coahces do that all the time the only reason this is even an issue is because he left to go to Notre Dame and the media (especially ESPN) will make ND looks like bad people anytime they get the chance

Kelly is getting raped on message boards. Classless, backstabber, liar, everything you can think of, I've heard him called today.

born and raised in cincy here.but i could really care less what the fans think.
Kelly made the right move for himself and his family. He had to leave at this point to allow ND to recruit. You absolutely cannot take the job, then stay with your old job for at least a month to practice for a bowl game.
Not only does he have to get on the recruiting trail right away, he also has to build his staff, and build relationships with his new team. It's absurd to call this guy names for leaving.

It's OK. They'll find another coach to return them back to glory.

Who cares what they think!!! Who felt sorry for us when we had our problems! Know one! In fact when we are down we get kicked and laughed at! Nothing personal to Cincinnati but this an elite job!

I can't wait for the day we destroy teams!

High comedy.

Seriously, these clowns need to do a little reflection. Cincy has had an outstanding two or three years, and they should be proud of that. Notre Dame has had an outstanding century. Seriously, talk about deluding yourself - do they really think any human in their right mind, when given the choice, is going to pick Cincy over ND? Stop being stupid. They should be flattered ND would want one of theirs.

Right. They can hate the guy if they'd like, we've all been on the other side of this equation in sports, but you can't a knock a guy for taking his dream job and improving his life.

Haven't read their board, but did anyone ask if they were equally as pissed at Brian Kelly when he left CMU to coach Cinci in their bowl game? Was their message board killing him 3 years ago when he left that smaller program to go to the Big East and Cincinatti? Because if they weren't, then I don't want to hear it...

I agree 100%. Believe me, no one in Cinci was feeling sorry for the fans of a MAC school as they thought a move to the Big East was a natural progression--and it was. The problem is in this day of instant gratification and ESPN, the Cinci fans were actually buying in that their program is a national power and their conference is something special. Indeed, the younger fans only remember the last five years or so, and it was a good run for them. If you remember your political science, it's called "Nationalism" or the process of believing your country (team) has some ordained right to be better than everyone else. As such, it hurts when someone chooses to leave voluntarily.

That said, the coaches in the Big East (in football) jump to bigger conferences when they can--just like the coaches from schools that have some success in other lesser conferences, such as Boise State, Utah, etc

The simple fact is there are a handful of "destination" schools where coaches aspire to, in other words, every where else is a lateral move and if they leave it would be for their alma mater, or the NFL. I believe those are Notre Dame, USC, OSU, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, (perhaps Penn State, Nebraska and now the Florida schools). Every where else is fair game--especially Stanford. I have no idea what is going on there, but the coaches love to leave. Hard to figure as it is beautiful, great academics, etc. I surmise they all figure they can't win a NC there, and the fan base is apathetic at best.

I hear the same thing down here in SEC country about Saban from LSU. Like after he decided pro fooball wasn't for him, there was a position still open at LSU. Even if there had been, like I posted in another thread, whether you like them or hate them Alabama is one of the premier football tradition rich schools.

Those 2 stars should worship the gound Kelly walked on while at Cincy.... tell me one of them would be there if offered by ND, Florida, OU, OSU, or even UM.... from the way some of them talk... ND, Stanford, NW and Duke admissions would not have had favorable words.

Like all of us... 50% + of them will get divorced at some point... use this as a learning tool.

Joke 'em if they can't take a....

how could Kelly pass up this opportunity? he took Cincy to new heights, but to turn down a pretigious job like ND would be a mistake imo. if he can replicate the success he had at UC, he will become legend in Irish football history. not many places have football legends, at least not like ND.

The current rumor is Cincinnati has contacted Skip Holtz at E. Carolina, and are negotiating with him. Of course, E. Car is in a bowl game (they won the Conference USA). If he accepts and leaves, the Cincy bellows of rage will appear somewhat hypocritical.
Incidentally, I am a graduate of both ND and Cincy. ND gave me to Cincy; it is only fair that Cincy returns the favor, even though it took a long time.

They say Kelly lied to them and said he was staying in Cinci... Chances are some player called him out and he lied so they could focus. You can't fault any coach for that.

They asked him before the Pitt game... Kelly was not contacted by anyone until after the weekend.

I'm a Domer, and to be honest, I really feel for the Bearcat team and faithful.

If the shoe was on the other foot, I'd be gutted, angry, frustrated, you name it, when Bearcat WR Mardy Gilyard walked out of a meeting after Kelly began to explain his decision to the B'cat team, I would have made a race of it with him.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time, and certainly won't be the last, that something like this happens, it's all part of the NCAA's make up.

It would be great for Kelly/team etc, to be able to wait until the off season to announce this, but because of recruiting etc, it's just not a viable option, Kelly will also need to assemble his staff, and address ND's problems.

It's ugly, but it's business.

Whats done is done, and the B'cat players need to grow up, hoist up their jocks and get on with it. The players coming out trashing Kelly should, and hopefully will in time, appreciate what Kelly did for Cinci and the players themselves.

I'm sure that most of the players understand this will be the biggest game of their lives up to this point, something they would have dreamed of!
Well now they have the opportunity to fulfill that dream, and make a case for their future in the sport, and/or their lives in general.

Kelly has done exactly the same thing by going to South Bend, he had the opportunity and now has the chance to fulfill a childhood dream.

What I don't understand, is that if the players themselves are happy to announce to the press, "all he did was call the plays" if thats the case, then stop moaning about him leaving, and get on with the job in hand.

For what it's worth, I would love to see the B'cats win, I love an underdog, and I hope they can pull it out, not to prove/show Kelly anything, but just because they love the game, and want to compete and beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

Extremely well said. And they're right, calling plays IS all a coach does, at the end of the day a coach succeeds or fails based on what his players do on the field, so hopefully they can bring it against Florida.

I am pretty sure any coach would accept the notre dame job I mean the tradition of notre dame is way to inviting. Who would turn down an offer? plus Brian Kelly is makin some serious dough. So you Cincy players, advice to you guys...Gather up and try to win the sugar bowl with your guys, fight till the end and beat those gators. BK is with us now in the Notre Dame house.
