meaning there will be another game in 2017, or option to opt out of that as well?

If I remember correctly that would be the end of the series unless they signed a new contract to resume the series.

I would think this is a direct result of the move to the ACC. They most likely need to free up some room for the 5 games they have to play against ACC teams.

Interestingly enough some of the ND blogs have Google+ session with Swarbrick this week. Hopefully that will shed some light on this.

I'd like to see a 2 on 2 off series...fill in with MSU in the off years...It'd give us a chance to keep playing both teams, and to only take up on game a season to do so...
Maybe sprinkle in Purdue to that mix...6 year cycle?

This hurts Michigan much more than it hurts ND.

you mean when we stop giving them awesome national night game coverage and they become just another mediocre B1G school?

I really hope this contributes to the death of that football program. their fans are already bitching about Hoke. They lose a couple more games (purdue, MSU, OSU), maybe some recruits drop off, they fire hoke, 3-4 more years of rebuilding, and so on until they just decide to stop playing football.

I hate Michigan just as much as everybody on here but I hate this move. That hatred makes for the best games, IMO. It has been my favorite rivalry since I became a fan back in the early 90's. I would like to see see us play 5 acc games plus Stanford, USC, UM, MSU, Navy and then add in two Big 12 opponents.

Good. I hate playing down to them each year. Texas is starting in 2015 and we're going ACC as it is.

Later Rust Belt. It's not you, it's me.

I thought previous reports/form posts stated the scUM was the team that wanted out of this contract!?

Awesome. Fck Michigan. There are other games that are more important to maintain against less bigoted schools with less trashy fan bases.

Playing that schedule would be completely insane. This isn't XBox. Geez.

Yeah, I bet we'll continue doing something like this. We've only played Michigan like 40 times anyway; it's not like some of our other rivalries. We've played them for most of the last 25 or 30 years so a lot of people forget that it isn't traditionally an every-year rivalry.

To be honest, I always wanted it to be an every-year rivalry though. It's always fun because of the tradition of both programs and the geographic proximity. I hope we work out a new deal where we play UM, MSU and Purdue with some regularity, if we can't play each every year.

I'd really like it if we could still play MSU every year, actually. That's a nice rivalry with a lot of history; the schools have played like 85 times. Purdue too (we've played more than 70 times, I think) but lower priority.

This is too bad, I look forward to watching ND-Michigan every year.....much more so than the Naval Academy. Nothing against Navy, and I do understand the history with Navy, I just prefer playing Michigan.

Florida State is in the NC conversation because they schedule 2 basically FCS schools and then whoop on one quality opponent at home.

If we want the same we have to have breathing room against facing juggernauts like Oklahoma, USC and Texas.

Don't forget we're also going to have to start playing Miami, FSU, VaTech and Clemson once every 3 years.

I'm sure in the future we will have some games scheduled. I will miss the yearly rivalry, but the move to the ACC makes this necessary.

Towson Tigers

I know we don't want a schedule filled with Towson Tigers etc but we have to give ourselves some breathing room.

Good. ND should be the favorites in the last two games of this series. Go beat their as* guys!

Even if Notre Dame wins the next two games (I fully expect ND to cruise next year), they'll only bring the series to 18-23-1. That really sucks.

Honestly I'd rather play Michigan than Stanford. I'd rather play Michigan than Michigan State or Purdue, certainly.

The series is 14-14-1 since 1978. Let's hope Notre Dame comes out on top the next two years!

This is awful for both schools simple because who are you going to fill that hole with? Bama? Div1AA teams? This is a great game that has provided awesome exhilarating games through out the years. Its, mostly, a competitive game for both sides and a spring board to a good season generally for the winner.

When the playoff system comes on board, and if we aren't scheduling tougher competition, its going to hurt our chances regarding SOS.

Now, saying that. I think Swarbrick doesn't do this unless there is something else in the works. Another named opponent.
