A few posts from a michigan board.

The main Key to the game- The Michigan offensive line vs. the ND front seven. IF they can blow ND off the line whether it be power runs/spread plays, michigan can give the nd offense less time on the field, so-so field position, and DR not having to drop back and throw on third and long (makes me shiver).....we can get a W. In fact, I think anything less than OLine dominance, and ND will get a W in ann arbor...

Ball control is not going to work this game IMO. ND will score whether the defense is tired or fresh. Eating up the clock just shortens the game and limits our opportunity to score.

We better be ready to score 30+ points

I would love to say we beat them, but ND moved the ball real well on USF and lost because of 5 turn overs....I just can't see that happening 2 weeks in a row to them. Also, I don't think there are any posters on this board that was alive the last time we took 3 in a row against ND. ND 38 Mich 28

Good to see that they recognize our team can put up the points and win this game. And of course you have your homers too haha! (below)

I was watching the nd v. USF game I noticed that their OLB and their DE's were absolutely horrific at containment of the outside runs that USF dialed up with a sub-par RB...if they play containment like that this weekend and we get shoelace on the edge with some read plays or even broken plays...nd better prepare to get Denarded.

Michigan 100
Notre Dame 0

If anyone has anything different than that, I will fight you

Well the one guy was a tiny bit right about the containment. It definetly was not "horrific" but Fleming had a few blown containments but only like 2 or 3 other than that they did pretty good with it. Shembo especially did a really good job with containment

Option

Option

I still don't trust the Irish defense against an option QB. ND needs this game in the absolute worst way. 1-1 to start the season with a win over Michigan is much better than 1-1 to start the season with a win over South Florida.

I like our chances alot better this year then last. The mixture of the older guys and the young guys is keeping them fresh. Which is smart. I was not that big of a fan of fox.

Just about to say that. You're absolutely right, and that dude was right too. We CANNOT lose containment!!! Denard is about 1000 x's a more dynamic runner than Daniels. We all saw what happens when we lose sight of Denard...

He definetly is, except I thought Hoke changed the offense so do we even still have to watch out for the read option from denard?

Per NDatRivals:

Depth chart for UM game reads "Dayne Crist or Tommy Rees" as starting QB.

What the hell Kelly? Just name Rees and end the circus. It's time to focus on UM..

I was screaming at the TV a couple of different times when Flemming lost containment. If I'm not mistaken he bit a couple of times on either a play action or fake hand off. I'm sure it will be addressed while they're watching film.

Containment improved in the second half. Still wasn't perfect, but I remember one play where the USF back burst outside and 3-4 ND players were waiting for him. It was beautiful.

I stressed this during the offseason. Contain, contain, contain.

They are running a hybrid offense to utilize Denard's abilities.

Just listened to the halftime guys breakdown their thoughts on the game. Mark May appears to be an ND lean, IF they can get the turnovers cleaned up.

What alternate reality are we living in??? 2012 is near....

Mark May is firmly entrenched on the Brian Kelly bandwagon. This year he predicted BCS, and didn't back away from that prediction on Sunday after our loss.

Heard that, too. After having had a chance to sleep on the USF game, I'm not sure what other conclusion you could reach. I think May is being sensible. Notre Dame is not a bad team. We just made a year's worth of sloppy and undisciplined plays in one afternoon. I think it is reasonable to think that will only get better.

Last year he predicted 10 wins.

Funny story. Today I was talking with my cousin's husband (Michigan fan) and he was going on and on about how good Jordan Kovacs (white walk-on safety) played on Saturday. As soon as Michael Floyd was mentioned, he says, "I'm not sure I want him covering him" then went on and on about how much of a beast Floyd is.

We did a better job of this after the extended halftime break. We also played with more emotion and speed. Still, if you give DR an extra inch, he can break the long one on you. We did a good job of staying in our lanes and keeping things in front of us, but there were still a few breakdowns that need to be corrected. scUM also likes to run the fake option pass...I would expect to see that at least once on Saturday.

As usual, Football Outsider's 2011 Michigan Preview is excellent, though less conclusive than most since there are so many unpredictable variables with their team this year.

Here's a quick comparison:

UM Defense
Overall: 115th
Rush Defense: 86th
Pass Defense: 90th
Standard Downs: 70th
Passing Downs: 110th

ND Offense
Overall: 37th
Rushing: 35th
Passing: 35th
Standard Downs: 33th
Passing Downs: 60th

Only two things are certain in this matchup: (1) UM's defense will be better (since it can't have gotten any worse); and (2) ND will have the upper hand regardless. Western Michigan's QB was 22/31 (71%) against UM in their opener; Rees was 24/34 (71%) against a much better USF defense. Mattison has not been able to turn this secondary around yet, so our passing attack should shred them for tons of yardage.

UM Offense
Overall: 3rd
Rushing: 2nd
Passing: 5th
Standard Downs: 3rd
Passing Downs: 13th

ND Defense
Overall: 9th
Rushing Defense: 13th
Passing Defense: 5th
Standard Downs: 5th
Passing Downs: 17th

The first thing that should jump out at you is that Denard Robinson was really good last year; Shoelaces deserves the healthy mix of fear and respect usually shown toward him on this board. If the Wolverines are going to win this game, it's going to be by gashing ND on the ground (read: Denard Robinson).

Michigan has more returning starters (20/22) than any other team ND will face this season. That would normally be a cause for concern, if not for the following factors: (1) many of those returning 2010 starters were terrible last year; and (2) the growing pains that inevitably result from installing new systems should neutralize whatever "experience" advantage they're bringing back from 2010.

UM also has more serious depth concerns than we do. UM will wear down as the game progresses, thereby giving ND a significant advantage in the 4th quarter.

Maintaining containment on Robinson is the key for this game. If ND can build off the successful 2nd half containment of Daniels, and assuming we don't experience another perfect storm of bad luck, TOs, and penalties, the Irish should win this comfortably. We deserve to be -4 pt. favorites.

He was on at half time during the MD game and said that as long as ND doesn't turn the ball over they will win. He said with 500 plus yards of defense he was impressed with the ofense. Is he getting sick.

Check out this gem of a post from a Michigan fan:

"Thankfully Brandon hired the best coach in the country for M. Bar none. I wouldn't trade Brady Hoke for Kelly, Harbaugh and Miles combined. Beat ND!"
