TE's are coming to ND no matter what, we know that, unless things drastically change. To keep it short, I think this hire is a nod to helping Tommy formulate a game plan, enhance the passing attack, and get the WR room to where they want it to be. If that's true then Brewster and Turner probably didn't offer that upgrade to some of our weaknesses in the same way as Parker.

I think Freeman has nailed these hires so far. Every hire has been an upgrade and I'm excited about the staff going forward!

100%. I think OL, ST, WR, DL are clearly upgrades. I think RB will be. And TE has a shot to be but even if not, the fall off has a high floor.

Freeman's crushing it in coaching hires, in recruiting it's TBD.

Hold the horses! The hires all look stunning on paper, but not every coach that comes to ND ends up being a fit. Time will tell how this goes, we've got an entirely new offensive staff aside from Tommy. There could be some growing pains. I think the future is bright though. If we can get some of the incoming freshmen up to speed quick on the defensive side of the ball and iron out the WR stuff I think we could have a bunch of winners.

Sea Turtle throws down a positive post and you quickly try to temper it down. C’mon man.

Most people here think it's far fetched that the NFL could even consider Rees because he's proven so little. But Rees passing game scheme and concepts are actually thought of very highly in coaching circles.

Not saying Rees recruitment or development of QBs is thought of highly. But his play design/ play calling is .

This isn't my take on Rees necessarily I don't know enough about offensive scheme at that level of football. Just from what I read this is what is felt about him in elite level football coaching circles .

I don’t think the Rees to NFL thing is far fetched especially on the NFL side. The caveat is that if he were to go to the Rams, that’s McVay’s baby. How much autonomy would Rees actually get? So he would have to weigh near full autonomy at ND or 2nd fiddle to McVay.

Thought you'd be happy to see him gone?

I think Rees is a good OC. I don’t think he is the cream of the crop like a lot of others in here. I also think he good recruiter but again not great. I think his biggest weakness is developing QB’s. I think he did ok with Book but Book was also a young man that wanted to be better and busted his ass. So some credit has to go to Book.

Yeah from Rees point of view going to the Rams (ignoring $$ for now):

Pros:
1) It's the NFL . You're at the top level. You get an off season too . You get to chill in February instead of worrying about trying to land Dante Moore.
2) You get to learn from Shawn McVay. Being a part of McVay coaching tree is going to be great on your resume.

Cons:
1) As you meantioned, he will have less autonomy than he has now; maybe less than he had under Brian Kelly in 2021.
2) Rees might feel he has unfinished business at Notre Dame; at least he felt that way back in December.

IDK…. I was really praising Jack hiring Marcus and keeping the coaching staff intact and now we have had a huge turnover. If Rees leaves … I mean wow

Regarding the DC, it’s pretty obvious it’s going to be Golden, right?

The sites have been VERY quiet lately. If it was going to be Rossi, I think it would’ve been done already. When the Super Bowl is over, I’m sure something will leak a couple days after that.

What coaching circles are you or others in where you've heard this? I think it's purely speculation.

I cannot imagine the the Rams are going after Rees.

KJ hamler from PSU had this to say about Parker "Hamler thanked head coach James Franklin “for recruiting and believing in me.” He singled out both wide receivers coach Gerad Parker “for being my biggest mentor and father figure away from home,” and running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, with whom he had “a bond that started way before PSU.”

Now I know were only talking Rams/Rees because of Orlovsky - but McVay has been a HC a total of 5 years and already has had 4 assistants become head coaches. If Rees were to get that offer, I would hope he would take it.

After everything that's happened since Kelly left after that Stanford game, this would really be something. That would be a significantly huge hire for Freeman, probably the most important one of them all.

I hope it doesn't happen.

I think the quiet = something thing is never really true. In this case, what is left to say? It’s been said Golden is a finalist, maybe favorite, hasn’t interviewed, won’t till the bengals finish. Not really more at this point to say.

Rees will always be an X's and O's guy its not rocket science to see that the NFL would suit him way way more than CFB
