per 247---the writing had been on the wall regarding Booker during camp which is why Quinn was assisting there

Fall camp? I don't get that. Imo either he had failed in previous seasons and change needed to be made before this season or it is based on this year. What could have happened between last season and the start of this year to put the writing on the wall? Imo sounds like a BVG situation where a move needed to be made after last season and was not. I could be way off base I just don't get retaining a coach after last year if BK believed "writing had been on the wall" in camp.

Yeah this whole season just reeks of complacency. 4-8 may be a blessing in disguise. It is forcing reassessment and change that 8-4 would not have.

I know BK would never do this but if he does not got USF with Strong how about Sterlin Gilbert has the OC/QB coach

Thought I read there was a press conference scheduled for tomorrow morning announcing Sanford as the new coach but I cannot find it now. I will post it if I find it

Honestly I don't see Elko turning down ND unless they lowball him. But I guess we'll see..

if they want him (or any DC) they better offer him a multi year deal to allay his fears of the head coach being fired after next year.

I'm cautiously optimistic on Elko, but I can't trust anything that Loy says. His recruiting Intel always gives me a nagging fear that he's over playing ND's position.

This, its like he tweets or spits out info just to say it rather than be correct. The guy at the party who always has to be right, even when hes way off.

They have a huge issue with being first, versus being right. And then on top of that, Loy has a massive issue with people posting that they heard something from another site. He always feels compelled to jump those posts and let everyone know that he already knew that.

Haven't been following it much. What's great about Elko? WF didn't exactly shut down Louisville or Clemson, allowing more points than our fired DC when we played them last. What am I missing?

Ditto here. I don't anything
about coach Elko. Just curious as to why this would be considered such an intriguing hire for DC!?

Their defense has over-performed based on their talent level, which is an argument that you can find in several places.

Clemson did a number on them, but you expect that from Watson and co. against Wake Forest, no matter how good the DC is. As for the Louisville game, Wake did a really good job against Jackson in the first half... they just didn't have the horses to keep at it for four quarters.

So, if you'er looking at it with a glass-half-full, he was developing unheralded players into a serviceable-to-good defensive unit.

This year:

39th in Total Defense
Tied for 12th in Sacks (37 total)
Tied for 30th in TFL (nearly 7 per game)
10th in Turnovers Gained (25 total)
17th in Redzone Defense (18 TD's on 41 attempts)
33rd in 3rd down defense (.359 conversion rate)
41st in Opposing Pass efficiency
50th in run defense

Those are some pretty impressive numbers considering Wake Forest has had zero recruiting classes ranked in the top 50 and are generally considered a cellar-dweller within their conference.

They were also bogged down by one of the worst offenses in the country, which means that their defense is constantly going out there getting stops, only for their offense to do absolutely nothing with it and give the ball right back to the opposition a few plays later.

Actually they did kind of shut down Louisville. The score is misleading. It was 12-10 Wake at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Then Wake kept giving the ball to Louisville in their own territory. Out of Louisville's 4 possessions in the 4th quarter, 2 started in WF territory, 1 at the Louisville 48 and one at their 35. Plus there was a pick six in there that distorts the score further.

Mike Elko: Sources tell FootballScoop there have been overtures from other programs; but sources tell us Wake Forest defensive coordinaor Mike Elko is likely to wind up in South Bend.

Isn't Denbrock still considered OC?

He and Sanford were co coordinators I thought - so should that position be listed as open?

The turnover ranking is what I like most. The lack of pressure is well documented but I don't think we've been too great at getting turnovers either. Having a Defense that gets TOs is a huge game changer. Our Rb's don't fumble (knock on wood) so if we lower the INTs and silly SP team blunders we should be top 10 in TO ratio under Elko which would put another W or 2 on the board next season you would think
