The lowest viewership ever - Ouch!! Apparently, I'm not the only one not watching any longer.

I'm sure it's because on-line viewership is up so much though. Yes, of course, keep telling yourselves that, right...

Going against the NFL is not a wise choice. Plus the MLB playoffs are underway. I still think they should have just canned the season and worked on starting in November, but Silver never takes my advice. lol

Rivers to the Sixers looks official now, 5 years. Will be interesting to see what happens. It's hard to tell if Rivers is a really good coach seeing as he won with three HOFs with the Celtics but hasn't been able to get some other good teams over the hump.

Jumped directly into the recycling bin, did Elton Brand. The ink on his Clipper walking papers was barely dry and Rivers is at the Sixers the same week he is gone from the Clippers. Granted, the Sixers job has been open for a while, so I'm sure they've done interviews.

The pool of candidates is as young and fresh as ever, but not a single one of them has been hired yet. Doc is 58 years old and just got hired for his FOURTH HC gig in the NBA.

Heat had a good plan to make Lakers into 3 point shooting team, played really hard but didnt quite have the focus and intensity needed on rebounding. AD is the biggest difference in this series and I'm not sure missing Dragic or Adebayo can account for that.

This might be done in 4.

Missing Dragic and Adebayo has to be tough, but I agree with the above.

Heat have got to get out of playing the zone on defense. Lebron and Rondo had 19 assists with one turnover, and the lack of a designated body means that AD is getting runs at the basket for offensive rebounds all night.

Jimmy Butler had a performance for the ages. They have life, and probably believe a bit now.

Still going Lakers in 6.

Yes that was impressive by Jimmy Buckets. On the flip side, if that's the performance needed to win, still doesn't bode well.

Preakness viewership:
2020: 2.4 million viewers
2019: 5.41 million
2018: 7.90 million
2017: 7.54 million

Evidently the horses are being too political? Or there's not enough defense.

It's crazy. I used to be one of those guys that if there was a sporting event on TV, I was watching it. Ever since COVID hit though I found myself getting into doing different things around the house or being more active. I hardly watch sports anymore. I watch ND football, Tottenham, and I will watch college basketball when it comes around but that's about it. It doesn't have anything to do with politics on my part, I have just found other things to do.

Never been in to horse racing, however, could all of those horse deaths in Santa Ana (I think that was the track they closed for a while) lead to lower viewers?

I had no idea until i saw the results on espn that night. There was no advertising it or anything. I'd start on making the public aware as the first issue in the poor ratings.

The track you are referring to is Santa Anita located in Arcadia, CA. Horse racing has been on the decline for some time, but the negative press of the deaths sure doesn't help. I feel the younger generation has different interest which is affecting the horse race industry.

I also think the movement of scheduling hurts some sports. My Mom missed watching the race because she couldn't figure out when it was happening. Just like I follow golf and couldn't tell you the date the Masters has been rescheduled to now.

I completely checked out on baseball, basketball, and hockey this year. Just felt so fake watching them... like it was some preseason scrimmage.

Football production value has been MUCH better plus I have fantasy to raise the stakes.

Ironically, professional lacrosse going to a "championship series" where they played the whole season in the span of a couple weeks in Utah was really well done and pulled amazing ratings/social media interactions. It was, essentially, the first sport back after everything got shut down in the spring so I think that helped.

Lebron rises to the moment in the second half. You just have to love Jimmy Butler, though.

In key moments, the Laker defense has clamped down on Miami every time they needed to. Truly a difference in what we're seeing.

I said Lakers in 6, but I think this thing gets wrapped up next game.

Bucks’ Darvin Ham will interview with Clippers, Pacers for coaching position

Covering their asses for the eventual recycle bin hire?

I hope they seriously consider him. Would be a great hire on many levels.

Kenny Atkinson is interviewing with the Rockets.

Could not understand why the Nets got rid of him at the time, but it turned out KD and Kyrie wanted Nash.

Good coach. Should get another go around, and it would make sense if he did.

Ya I don’t think anyone is too hyped about this. Ratings are down across all sports. It just doesn’t feel the same without the fans, travel, etc.

The real question is next year when hopefully the arenas are open again will any fans show? Time will tell but I’m thinking attendance tanks just like TV viewership. How are teams going to pay max contracts with no revenue stream?

How long are they locked into their TV deals, both national and local? That's where they make a ton of money. Huge presense outside of the US too. Those will pay no matter who sits in the stands, at least for now.

Good point/question. I'm not sure how long the existing agreements are in place but would have to think this hurts the NBA's leverage when it comes time to negotiate again if this pattern continues...

Having been to a Lakers' finals game in my lifetime, this was definitely different. Even as a viewer, there is something about the atmosphere of the crowd that draws you in. I really feel with the storylines in play for this finals, it would've been nice to see James close out the series in Miami. Also feels different celebrating by myself as opposed to doing so with other fans/friends/etc...

Glad to see the woke NBA ratings on par with the WNBA. Great job facilitating equality.
