turned out to be about 60-40 out to. Nd. Howard had a hell of a game and it seemed out d line finally caught up to us. Leonard Moore was fantastic and that last pass to smith was because we sold out for the run. Golden got out played this game sadly but I’m 31 and I can wait for great things this next couple of years. Go Irish ☘️ and lets beat the world.

Howard actually out Leonard'd Leonard. He had 1 less carry, but 17 more yards rushing. Leonard had more yards passing. That's kinda crazy.

Really incredible to have 60% of the fans against one of (if not the) largest fan bases in the sport while being a 9pt dog.

Any take that says we were over matched by a highly superior team is a joke.

We totally could have won this game. Our later play in the game showed that pretty clear.

The problem was poor pass play by Riley early on. He had all day and couldn’t seem to find anyone open when OSU’s DB’s are not great. Which showed late in the game when we actually threw the ball downfield and tested them.

Poor game plan for our coaches as well, especially Golden and Freeman (apparently, buck stops with the HC). Way too conservative

The most frustrating part of this game was that we could have won, but showed up poorly and were poorly coached on the whole.

The good news is we could have won the title game after running the gamut in the playoffs. Great season, disappointing ending, with a very positive outlook moving forward.
Over matched is certainly the wrong word, but this Ohio State team is likely to set a record for most players drafted. They were a lot more veteran and talented at many key positions than Notre Dame. And their young guys (Downs and Smith) will be top picks.

At WR, ND has maybe two guys who if they develop over the next two years can be late round picks. TE that will be a mid-to-late pick if he tests decently. Ohio State probably has 3-4 top draft picks catching the football, it's a major talent edge. DL nowhere close to Ohio State's DL. Linebackers a lot younger besides Kiser. Position by position Ohio State was better.

In general, if you look at it on paper, it's shocking that Ohio State found a way to lose two games this year. They are top to bottom loaded. I actually think ND was coached extremely well on offense given that the defense got shredded so badly early in the game that they had to abandon the run. They scored more points on Ohio State than Oregon's top offense, Texas, and Tennessee.

Better team won, it's a shame to miss an opportunity like this but there's a reason why Ohio State was favored by so much even over a loaded Texas team.

I will share my thoughts tomorrow. I think I'm in a similar boat as Lax.

Sagarin (gold standard) likely has ND as #2 tomorrow. With all the injuries playing against this team, that's awesome. They flipped a switch after the Michigan game and ND had them sweating in a natty.

Sargarin has actually already been updated:

We end the season as the definitive #2 team in country. Absolute hell of a season / game-to-game performance considering the injuries this team faced.

I don't think people realize how bad both our DEs were. Junior I'd a 3rd stringer and Josh Burnam isn't a real SDE and hasn't done anything. We beat Georgia by 2 scores and PSU. This was an incredible year.

That said, the next 3 star who's worshiped as the next big thing, I don't want to hear it. We need high 4 start players filling the class and MF now has the clout to do it.
…and bankroll if we’re being serious. If this run doesn’t fund some serious paychecks then we know we’re not serious contenders. $20M is now the price of admission to the only club that matters.

Yep. My dad spent the whole game complaining (he's become more grouchy as he has entered his late 50's) and I wanted to tell him to just shut the fuck up and watch the game.

ND appears to be back. Like legitimately back with a young coach. Sucks to lose, but this team was a blast to watch even though it was so problematic. But the problematic parts weren't like 2012, this was a young team with some shortcomings who didn't luck into a natty appearance. This is a very good football team that is getting better.

Ohio State had better Jimmy's and Joe's. But these guys made a game of it. This is a new Notre Dame, I feel it in my ball bag.

I don't blame anyone.

Golden called a bad game. He did. Dude was also put in a very VERY compromising position, down what? 4-5 of your best players on defense against what has the be the most dangerous and hottest offense in CFB right now? Yeah, that ain't a great situation to be in.

We look back to 2012. Alabama was dynamic. They had Amari Cooper, Eddie Lacy and TJ Yeldon. Ohio State had 3 Amari Coopers out there. Georgia and Penn State had weapons, but we could manage them. Ohio State had too many weapons to manage with how shorthanded ND was. This is a game where you need Mills, you need Botelho, you need Traore, you need Morrison.

Same for Gray. A day for forget for him. Can't knock him because he got them there, but it's definitely something for him to learn from. Just a lot of bad from Christian Gray in this game. Here's hoping that gives him a chip on his shoulder going into '25.

But man. Does the future look bright. The OL is going to be elite next season. Knapp should be back for spring. Jagusah looked good. In Spring, you need to find the best combination of 5 guys. Jagusah, Knapp, Schrauth, to me are the guys who are locked in. See what you have in Lambert. I think Coogan has done well this year. Kind of a weird situation, as Craig is likely not going to be back until fall. Wagner is gonna have to earn his spot. I felt he was good in the regular season, but I felt he was disappointing for much of the playoffs.

Greathouse proved he's a dude. He and Faison, plus bringing in Fields. That's a trio you can win these types of games with. A lot is going to come down to how the QB situation is resolved.

Defense, Botelho and Traore are going to be back, plus you get Burnham, Young and Junior back. Wouldn't shock me if one decides to move on. Love Junior and he earned my respect being thrust into the starting role after being #3 on the depth chart, but he was #3 for a reason. Just couldn't present a consistent pass rush. We missed that today. I really like Dawson and I think him, Rubio and Hinish can make a quality rotation, plus, you should get another dude from Sevillano, Vernon, Mukam, Houstan, Mullins. One of them will emerge. They always do.

Bowen, KVA and Ausberry are going to be dynamic. Hopefully Sneed is back, but wouldn't blame him if he moved on. Gray will recover and be a stud and Leonard Moore....as much as I thought Morrison was great, Moore might be even better. I'll miss Watts, but Shuler is the next great one.

I'm not concerned about Golden. I think Freeman has a good culture and his defensive philosophy is all over this defensive roster. Even if Golden moves on, they'll be more than fine, whether Mickens is the guy or they hire somebody else (I think Mickens would be the guy if that were to happen).

Overall, making the NCG with all these injuries is beyond what I expected. I hate the way it ended, but the team fought. They could've packed it up like Kelly teams have in the past, but they didn't.

Does anyone else feel like if we just attack OSUs DBs all game we win? They seemed to really suck in the second half. Or was it because they were playing conservative or other reasons? I really don’t know.
It's hard to just start flinging it around when that hasn't really been part of your identity all season.

I don’t blame anyone there’s only one team who’s gonna have playmakers like that and we happened to play them last night. They’ll be loaded at WR next year too but not as good on defense. Watching the game we literally were rushing JR T and he wasn’t doing anything to get close to Howard credit to Howard on that last play he got the ball out in 1.5 seconds. If we want to win a title and compete with a team like tonight loaded with 5 stars we need to change our recruiting strategy like someone else brought up it was mentioned by guys early season we had ton of highly ranked recruits that woulda been fits we just weren’t offering a bag for them. Here’s how it needs to be going forward.
5-7 milllion towards high school redruits
7 million to the guys currently on the roster
5-7 million to transfers
This is 20 million we also need to allow fans to contribute no reason we can be spending 20-25 million on NIL yearly landing a player like Jeremiah Smith could be all the difference in winning a title or not

One hell of a season. This year made me ecstatic about watching ND football again. No more dread when going against heavyweight teams. I hope Freeman stays until he retires.

To vastly oversimplify the game, OSU had 214 yards rushing, ND 53, including only 7-16 for Love and Price combined. Even then, it was closer at the end than it looked like it'd be early. Injuries and no defensive stops make that a tough game to pull out.

I just felt so bad for Mitch. Short kick. Right hash. Late call to kick, so your operation is sped up…yeah he probably could’ve/should’ve made it, but that’s so tough.

You have to be ready in any situation. Mitch was good for us but not great.

Biggest storylines or question marks going into next season.
1. Who wins the QB battle
2. What’s the RB rotation look like? Does price leave? Guys like Williams and Young are gonna need want touches too.
3. What’s the WR chart look like, love what we have but really missing a guy who can take the top off the defense.
4. Does one of the young DB’s coming in move over to WR? Golden, Blair, and Mark Zackery could all be very good WR’s.
5. Who’s your starting OL?

Just woke up. It was a great run, the best ND team I ever saw. Thanks a lot for a great season, I wish we could do two steps in one but Ohio State tripped our jump. A couple of shots will beat the hang over, all the best to everyone on the board!

Agree. Obviously winning a NC is very difficult but I’ve never felt better about our HC since the Holtz days. Unfortunately, we’re still behind talent wise to the top schools. Great year, great fun.
Yep, OSU was the best team money could buy.

Disappointed like everyone else, but you really have to like what's on the horizon.
