I don't think people realize how bad both our DEs were. Junior I'd a 3rd stringer and Josh Burnam isn't a real SDE and hasn't done anything. We beat Georgia by 2 scores and PSU. This was an incredible year.

That said, the next 3 star who's worshiped as the next big thing, I don't want to hear it. We need high 4 start players filling the class and MF now has the clout to do it.

This game does nothing to detract from the magical season. I'm still having steak and champagne to celebrate the team's success: 11 win regular season including over the archrival USC, the first ever home playoff victory, 2 major bowl game victories in 8 days(!!!), and this with a whole slew of injuries all across the board! Does anyone else feel like if we just attack OSUs DBs all game we win? They seemed to really suck in the second half. Or was it because they were playing conservative or other reasons? I really don’t know.

Middle of the field was open all night. They were plying two deep safeties. Made no sense why we didn’t attack the middle more

I didn't want to say outcoached until I rewatch the game, but there were a lot of missed tackles that works have been 1 it 2 years gains into 7 or 8 yards. Same thing behind the line of scrimmage.

Definitely didn't do a good job spying Howard, that's on coaches. At the same time, too many defenders in the same area which is confusion from the players.

Moving forward, I think an accurate and on-time passer really unlocks the explosiveness of this offense but you can't replace the running grit of RL.

In hindsight the biggest play of the entire game was Leonard not being able to corral Smith on 3rd & 5 on their very first offensive drive.

I can't remember but I can almost guarantee it would have been 3rd and 8 and that play doesn't happen if the defense tackles better.

The difference in the game wasn’t about headsets or OSU’s talent making big plays. The real issue was the defense’s shit tackling in the first half, which allowed OSU to convert easy third downs and methodically move down the field. Sprinkle in mental mistakes in coverage and not keeping contain when their goofy ass qb ran the ball and this is the result.

There will be plenty of big brain takes dissecting every detail of the game, but most games are won and lost on fundamentals - and this one was no different imo.

Nothing... and I mean nothing is going to ruin this season for me. MFMF and the boys only made my love for Notre Dame only stronger. The most fun I've had watching this team.

Edit: I’m going to keep this up here bc if I’m wrong I want to own it, but after reflecting I think you’ve gone through some stuff recently that could potentially cause one to not prioritize football.

However…if this went how you assumed it would go and you didn’t watch, you missed out on 10:00 of pure bliss and getting to watch your team COMPETE and not give in for the entire game. It was growth.

Seems like OSU was giving the defense alot of different looks that they hadn’t seen before. Playing off balance greatly affected the defense in my opinion.

The offense did more than enough to win. I feel like the defense was our achilles heel tonight but they can’t be perfect every game.

Truly a season to be proud of and the future is bright. But damn wouldn’t have it been a special night if we pulled off the comeback.

Also, Ohio can suck my balls.

I dont think there has been anywhere near enough GREATHOUSE shout outs. He's second half was sensational. Hopefully this is a legitimate upwards progression from him those performances the last 2 games of the season and it continues into 2025. If so....goodly.
Also WTH was with the lack of RB game. Didnt even seem to try.
Otherwise I am proud of the fella's.
RE next season: I am worried we will miss Leonard a lot more than has been given credit for.

I saw the score after it ended. Because I was doing something else with my time because they weren’t winning this game and that was obvious to anyone who looked at the matchup. Why would I waste my time getting upset about it? It’s just a football game.

Freeman said “nah, we aren’t doing that” and made it a game for a spell. The players bought into him and made it happen. They did not quit.

This sucks beyond belief, but you gotta respect we have a COACH now.

I assure you he doesn't wait until half time to make adjustments bc he prefers to be on the sideline. Some coaches have a better feel for the game and their players from the field and they still have access to wide looks and can rely on their staff in the booth to fill them in.

Any take that says we were over matched by a highly superior team is a joke.

We totally could have won this game. Our later play in the game showed that pretty clear.

The problem was poor pass play by Riley early on. He had all day and couldn’t seem to find anyone open when OSU’s DB’s are not great. Which showed late in the game when we actually threw the ball downfield and tested them.

Poor game plan for our coaches as well, especially Golden and Freeman (apparently, buck stops with the HC). Way too conservative

The most frustrating part of this game was that we could have won, but showed up poorly and were poorly coached on the whole.

The good news is we could have won the title game after running the gamut in the playoffs. Great season, disappointing ending, with a very positive outlook moving forward.
