If you're not happy with the class, keep in mind, although some classes are smaller, and technically schools can still add people, we're currently ranked ahead of the following teams on 247:

Texas A&M
Miami
Stanford
Florida
PSU
Clemson
Tennessee
UCLA
South Carolina
Oregon
V Tech
Texas
Ole Miss
MSU

Di.... Did you just post something positive about recruiting?

If we didn't finish with 2 DL today and a Safety/Rover, I'd be hammering the last month of recruiting. But overall if you offered me 2 weeks ago these 3 versus 'roll the dice and see what you end up with', I'd take these 3 100%.

It's best to evaluate the class combined with the previous one. Few fill all their needs each year. More PT for '18 recruits on positions we missed on this year.

The rankings, in total points, yes. That said, I would think Clemson and Stanford are feeling better about their class than ND right now.

I think, all in, the close was good and helped prevent a class that would have definitely been a step back. Like I mentioned earlier, the last three classes have lacked true difference makers at the most critical positions (only 4 by that measure). We can still win without them, but it takes a much higher hit rate on the top 250ish players and outstanding coaching. Maybe the coaching staff changes will answer the bell. We'll see.

I give our close in the last month a B.

If we got another rush DE, or a corner back, or a WR, I'd give it an B+.

If we got 2 of the above, I'd give it an A-.

If we added another rush DE, WR, and corner, I'd give it an A and I don't think you can argue it wouldn't have been an A.

Overall I can't complain.

That being said...what's the over/under of time until you do complain?

so jafar decommits from mizzou because his HS teammate is going to be a walk on at ND and that made him flip?

i don't even know what gif to use

It might be because of teammate Colin Grunhard going to walk-on at ND or because of Colin's dad. You might be old enough to remember him.

Colin's father, Tim, was an All-American G for ND in '89. Got an NC ring in '88. 2nd rounder in the NFL draft, 10 seasons with KC Chiefs, Pro-Bowler. After retirement he was a radio broadcaster for 4 or 5 years. Well spoken. Became Bishop Miege (Jafar's school) head coach for 6 years, '06-'11, then OLine coach for KU for 2 years. For the past 3 years he's been the OLine coach at Bishop Miege.

I suspect a dynamic person like Tim Grunhard, an ND All-American, NFL veteran, former broadcaster, AND coach on Jafar's team for the last 3 years had more impact on Jafar's decision than a walk-on buddy. But that's my guess

Yes. I was referring to Grunhard Sr and his contribution to making sure Jafar was on ND's board.

Other coaches... are not necessarily the correct personality match. I'm still skeptical that Lyght has what it takes to get it done recruiting elite DBs.

So if you guys are saying we need to match coaching/recruiting personalities with the position group, ND should hire Deion Sanders to coach DB's and call it a day.

He's definitely available. I saw him on an episode of Tiny Houses on HGTV last week.

And that's with a couple dudes ahead of them that were playing as freshmen this past year, and might be ahead of them for three more years.

Not everybody in that group of 4 is going to be happy riding pine for two or three full years.

In my mind, Texas limped towards the finish line, adding only Pouncey today.

Their class was a total of eighteen, and missed today on four stars Stephan Zabie, OT (Texas 89%) to UCLA, Javelin Guidry , CB (Texas fav 83%) to Utah, K'Laivon Chaisson, DE (LSU 73%) to LSU, Chevin Calloway, WR (Ark 84%) to Ark, and unable to flip Kary Vincent (LSU commit). They had lost Ryan Johnson, DE to Stanford a couple of days ago.

Of those eighteen, two were flips for Herman from Houston, one from SMU and one from Oklahoma State. Without those....

Except for Oklahoma (#8 ranked) the Big 12 did not do well with Texas second (#26 nationally). So, ND was significantly better than all the B12 except for Oklahoma, who had 27 commits.

Especially considering its, predominantly, a 2 WR offense. Very good chance that some of this group is relegated to a lifelong backup or maybe 1 year of production, at best. But hey, Harbaugh jumped in a pool with Martin, so its all good. He'll have that to remember for the rest of his life, lol.

I'm happy with our finish (outside of secondary) but Michigan signed a rockstar class at some positions. That WR haul is dirty considering Harbaugh puts only 2-3 on the field at once.

Really like O. Martin, damn shame he made the wrong choice.

I'd be salty as hell if I were Tarik Black or Oliver Martin, watchign TE's and FB's score TD's out of power-I formations while I'm sitting the bench as a junior, wondering why I joined a class with three other receivers already in it.

The greedy bastards even signed the #1 punter in the class.

I agree. Essentially, with DPJ, all these guys are fighting over 1 full time spot and a 2nd situational spot.

Maybe not even quite that, if McDoom and Crawford keep doing their thing and stay healthy. Those guys won't be easy to unseat over the next two or three seasons.

If you're not DPJ, you're basically begging for the three or four times a game where they call for a 4/5 WR formation lol
