Deeb and Grace could be a great tandem at ILB. I hope you're right about Tuitt coming back. And I really hope Bryant stays, but if he doesn't want to be at ND, it's probably best he leaves. I really wish he could look past whatever is bugging him and realize that next year and the the year after he could be tearing it up. Cierre took a while to get his share of carries too. I just wish for once we didn't have so much attrition of our most highly-coveted recruits.

I'll be completely honest- I thought Folston was a better player than Bryant. I know others here believed that too.

I know. I love how much Kelly hates to lose. After a loss, he can't even be civil, as evidenced by his rudeness to Alex Flanagan after the OU game ("Well, if you were watching the game, Alex ..."). Well, I guess that maybe takes it too far and is borderline classless, but stuff like him arguing with Jack and Diaco shows you how bad he wants to win and how he demands everyone's best.

Yes, I suppose you're right. He should have been more diplomatic and said something like,
"You're a college graduate, a 40 year old adult, you've worked as a sports journalist for 15 years, you make $400K a year to ask intelligent questions ... were you not watching the game or are you just ****ing stupid, Alex?"

I despise the sideline reporters. They add nothing to the game and bring no new information. The coaches interviews are just typical coach speak and it annoys them to have to do it. The only pleasure I get out of sideline reporters is when they interview Gregg Popovich.

I don't really know what's with all the hate against Alex. She's one of the best sideline reporters in CFB IMO.

Where is ALL the hate you refer to?

Emcee made a reference to Alex regarding Kelly's passion. Tommy and I separately made followup comments.

Alex is not somebody's wife at the game for a social event. She's a highly paid, experienced reporter with 15 experience for Fox, ESPN, and NBC doing a wide variety of sports broadcasting. She asked a question like a homecoming queen waiting for her nails to dry.

I've seen veteran male reporter's ask similar questions and get responded to in the same manner. I remember Lou Holtz looking at a sideline reporter with disdain and just walking away without responding biting his tongue.

I don't believe it was set in stone. He's been unhappy with his lack of PT, injured or not.

Then The Folston Express left the station.

And if you are going to leave why do so at mid semester unless you have to?

Finish the semester, get your grades, and if you chose to transfer go out the front door like a man rather then just not showing up for the bus.

I guess my thinking was he'd have a better chance at playing next year if he bounced right away... now, he's sitting no matter when/where he goes... unless he goes JUCo.

Or he can stay and compete like a man. If he's 1/2 as good as he's supposed to be, he would get more than enough reps.

Well this is my obvious thought... I'm just trying to rap my mind around his apparently pending move.

It's not entirely their fault. It's kind of a ridiculous job (at least the on-camera part of it. They also do a lot of work gathering info on injuries, etc. and feeding it to the crew calling the game). The coaches have no incentive at all to say anything of interest, especially at halftime.
I'd credit the first network to do away with in-game interviews, or to send a Mike-Mayock-quality color guy down there for the postgame. But the trend seems to be moving in the other direction and now we're talking to managers in the dugout in the 4th inning.

But back to the OP. Glad to hear these guys believe they'll win out. That's at least half the battle.

I do miss Tony Siragussa (sp?). This guy was good:

He had to leave before classes started 10 weeks ago to avoid losing a year and that would have required approval.

He burns a year if he left tonight unless he can get a Carlisle like waiver. He can supposedly get the year back with a medical redshirt 6th year but how many 6th years to you recall going to the NFL? That's generally not the blue chip route.

If he's as good as advertised, he can gut out the unhappiness of sitting out with an injury. Grace, Lombard, Springman, et al aren't bubbling with anticipation sitting on the sidelines. GB can use the time to sharpen the mental aspects of the game essential to Div 1 ball and get a solid foundation academically. He can learn a little Nietzsche and feed off it.

The whole GB thing is just strange. He's been disgruntled since Temple, which just doesn't make a lot of sense. Did he really expect to be the starter or get lots of reps from game one?

The cynic in me wonders if he was promised things during recruitment that didn't come to fruition, because I can't figure another reason he'd be so unhappy after just one game. It seems like a little more than just not fitting in at ND.

Yes he did have too high of expectations coming in. He thought he was going to be a freshman AA before the season even started.

Hate too strong of an adjective. But whatever.

And we both know it wasn't Alex's question anyway. Yeah, "She's a highly paid, experienced reporter with 15 experience for Fox, ESPN, and NBC doing a wide variety of sports broadcasting," but it wasn't her question.

Thanks for the info.

That last line about what teammates are saying almost makes it sound like he is a bit of an outcast from the team already and not too close to them. Hope he turns it around and sticks, would be great for the future backfield.

Even if he doesn't stick around, no reason to be the outcast. Welcome the young man in.

His injury thing was always cloudy. He wasn't getting 'it', then he magically had an injury, then that injury was one he's always had and won't go away but can be 'dealt' with. It can't be easy, no matter the reason, to come in and watch a guy from your state, rated lower than you were, take full advantage of his limited snaps. Especially when he finally gets the load he not only carries it, he kills it. None of it is an excuse tho. Your a young adult now. Time to mature. And I'm under the belief his dad may be on our side in it.

Those are just growing pains. He’ll be just fine. He needs a year to mature in the program

His quote when responding to the initial rumors a while back. I always read it as dad on our side.

As far as Tuitt, doesn't he have a GF on campus. If so, maybe she's a year behind him and for once a GF keeps us a player, as opposed to cost us one.

What question are you guys referring to? I missed the boat on this one so I'd like to know what question she asked that was so dumb and had BK take a "jab."

Also, sideline reporting is great as long as they aren't actually talking to coaches and athletes. Gather injury info and report on what you're hearing from the sidelines. That's useful info. Lobbing softball questions to a coach just to get him on camera is almost as bad as coach-speak itself.

This is what I don't get. Unless I'm missing something, I'm pretty sure GB knew he would have to bust his hump before he signed up for the show. This is a University built on pride and tradition. You don't just get handed the keys to the kingdom, on the field, in the classroom, etc. I hope this isn't what the ND coaches are selling on the recruiting trail. My impression has been that the staff stresses to recruiting candidates that the opportunity is always available for earning the top spot. They've proven this by the vast number of freshmen they've played throughout the years. They've demonstrated that ND wants athletes/students with the kind of self-confidence that is predicated on strong work ethic and talent, in both recruiting and development (Jaylon Smith/Theo Riddick). I think that's why I refuse to believe the rumors until GB proves them wrong. If they are true, I hope Alford finds a way to reach him again before the ink on the wall has dried. We need those kind of coaching powers just as much as the ones Alford channeled to get him here.

Alex asked a sort of presumptuous question after the Oklahoma game, suggesting our WR's were having trouble getting separation because of the physicality of Oklahoma's DB's. Kelly spout off and got a little upset.

Really, Mayock was likely screaming in Flanny's ear to ask that question before the interview. Kelly knew it also.

If I remember correctly Nix was homesick and on the verge of transferring at one point or at least debating it in his own head. He stayed and I would say became a formidable player.

I think GB will have a similar outcome. He seems to enjoy his time from the video I have seen him on the sideline he has cheered on his fellow RB's.

Riddick played before the "tauted" Wood their freshman year. By the end of their career they became a pretty good tandem

Sorry guys, going to have to clean up those last few posts. As a rule of thumb, if you have something you can share then post it. If you can't share it, put it in a PM.

Leaving ambiguous and potentially inflammatory posts out there because you're using your discretion not to share something only creates unease, panic, and conflict on the board.
