Beautiful song. One of the best openings to an album ever, but the rest of the album is a disappointment. However, this one song still is one of my favorite albums of the 90s.

I always end up listening to Elliott Smith when the weather turns. Something about his sound seems right for those overcast, cold winter days.

btw, if any of you don't know the story of Elliott Smith, look it up. He makes Kurt Cobain seem cheery.

One of the best guitarist I can think of as well.

Since the name (or a reference to lyrics – was that you, Jughed?) came up recently:

Another amazing album opener. If it wasn't for Ian Curtis's suicide Joy Division would have been one of the greatest bands ever. Definitely the best of the 1980s.

I think this is something that literally everyone can enjoy. Unless you're a raging metal fan or too deep into gangsta rap for your own good.

This is also outstanding, but admittedly not for everyone:

I agree Buster. It is not for everyone. Bon Iver makes we want to go skydiving with a nitrous tank strapped to my back instead of a parachute.

I like all types of music from Classical to Mastadon (excluding Chilean pipe music). This is still one of favorites songs. Steve Gadd is so smooth,....so smooth.

I played soccer with the short guy (Mike Noyce) for 5 or 6 years. I also remember hearing Justin Vernon when he was in Deyarmond Edison band. I still have one of the old CD they'd sell at local shows. It's great to see them have so much success.

Metal, you say?

Dimebag's solo from The Sleep remains my all-time favorite:

steve gadd got me thinking about my favorite drummer of all time, Joe Morello

this is a drum solo sandwiched by the song 'Sounds of the Loop". Joe starts off the song by playing the melody on his drum kit, then the band starts in. Obviously, this was when he was playing with the Dave Brubeck quartet

The Last Waltz is on Palladia right now...

I've been meaning to thank you, ACamp. When my son gave me a gift certificate for Netflix as a Christmas present "The Last Waltz" rose to "the top of my list" because of your reminder.

I guess this post applies to both Music Suggestions and Movies I'm Watching.

They were crazy good live....even while the band was in the midst of it's death throes...

... Joe starts off the song by playing the melody on his drum kit, then the band starts in. Obviously, this was when he was playing with the Dave Brubeck quartet.

Brubeck was a genius as a Jazz composer and performer. One of his major accomplishments was to surround himself with musicians such as Morello who added their technical talent as well as their compositional sensibilities.
