As an old f'ing guy, I can tell you the ringing in my ears from playing Led Zepplen, The Who, Cream, etc. too loud when I was young is quite the enjoyable pleasure I could do without. ;)

P.S. Get off my f'ing lawn!
Same here, and all too often through headphones. I once stood on the front row, over to one side of the stage right in front of a wall of speakers at a ZZ Top concert. My ears rang for 3 or 4 days. It's amazing I'm not deaf now.

My iphone sends me notices when I use my headphones that I have "exceeded my limit of audio exposure."

I saw AC DC at the United Center during the Ballbreaker tour. I was 18 years old and it took me a good couple of days to hear normally again.

Stuff we take for granted.

I’ve been using ear inserts at concerts for quite a while now and they make a huge difference. I primarily go to smaller venues where the sound is more contained. No more ear ringing after watching Zakk Wylde shred on guitar.

I finally got around to watching Green Book tonight. It was very good, but I don't think it was quite deserving of its Oscar. It was certainly a great story, good acting, and well-done. Definitely worth watching.

I got about 20 minutes in a few. Years ago and then aborted. Does it start bad and get better?

I didn't really mind the first part, but it certainly gets better. It's a good story with great acting, but it's not Earth shattering or anything. It didn't break new ground in any way or wow me. It's basically just a white guy who's typically racist for that time & place seeing what a black guy goes through and they come to be friends. You get a good perspective on what a black guy went through and had to endure during Jim Crow days. Again, a very good story told well, but predictable. It's worth the watch.

That was an incredibly weak year. Hard to argue any of these are more deserving.

Green Book
Black Panther
Blackkklansman
The Favorite
Roma
A Star is Born
Vice

Geez, I didn't realize the field was that weak. OK, Green Book is no instant classic, but it's certainly better than anything else on that list.

I re-watched "Black Dynamite" last night. It is an absolutely spot-on spoof of blaxploitation action movies. It gets everything right, down to little details like corny music cues and just visible boom mics. It hilarious and entertaining. The best part that as over the top as it is, the movie never overdoes the parody. In the hands of lesser filmmakers, every joke would be applied with a sledgehammer. But the movie gets the tone just right, which is hard when you're taking on a genre as naturally outlandish as blaxploitation flicks. If you haven't seen it, check it out.

Bohemian Rhapsody was nominated that year too.
It was better.

He sure admired a great people tho
Yeah, Amin was a piece of work. Loved Hitler and tried to emulate him in many ways. Amin was cunning and ruthless, but not the brightest bulb in the knife drawer, nor educated at all. Basically a mean, overgrown child with nobody to tell him no, sitting around pulling the wings off flies.

I watched the 2020 war/horror movie Shadow In The Clouds last night. That's 80 minutes of my life wasted. It's just bad, and I mean REALLY bad. Stupid premise, stupid execution, totally ridiculous plot, and just insulting to my intelligence.

Watching The Last Crusade. It's a good thing this was the last Indiana Jones movie ever made. What a perfect send-off for the character.
Why would you be in denial over this classic?!

Nefarious was worth the $20. Rotten tomatoes experts hate it (35%), but audience rating is 96% so you know it's good.

I've got no stock for critics these days. Many get paid for favorable reviews of AAA games and big movies. Critics loved Last Jedi, but it bombed with viewers and for good reason. Definitely trust the viewers more than than critics.

The original trilogy was good only because many people challenged George's ideas and cleaned up things in editing. That didn't happen in the prequels in later years. Everyone pretty much gave George free reign without challenging him. Still better than the Disney films...but definitely not as good as the originals.

The second triology had a decent enough story and was coherent enough. It just needed cleaning up and someone to tone Lucy’s’ stuff back like you said. The Disney trilogy was an incoherent mess from the beginning. Terrible. Last Jedi might be the worst installment of any major film franchise in history and that’s saying something when you consider horror franchises. It was like Johnson intentionally went out there to ruin as many childhoods as possible

Have you watched any of the prequels recently? The dialogue is so SO bad. At least if you turn your brain off you can just enjoy the spectacle of the Disney trilogy. The prequels seem like an alien tried to write a movie mimicking the way humans speak. Also every non action scene is just shot reverse shot of conversations in front of bad green screens.
