I watched The Banshees Of Inisherin today. Definitely worth the watch. I kept expecting it to turn into a dark comedy, but it stayed serious and rather disturbing and sad all the way through. I enjoyed it more than expected, and it's quite good.

It’s darkly comedic but not quite a dark comedy. Fantastic movie.

I didn't see Everything, but I did see the Whale. I don't watch a lot of Oscar dramas, but I thought it was pretty well done. Most of the credit goes to Fraser though. He didn't just look like a guy in a fat suit, he sold it based on his performance. He made it hard to watch at times it felt so real. It was tremendously depressing and at times eye opening I thought. I didn't care for all the brow beating on anti-religion, but otherwise a good film I thought.

"Widows." It was really good and I doubt I can add much to what's been said about it except to emphasize an observation that there were so many terrific characters and interesting narrative threads that it could have been 2 separate movies. The widows part could have stayed the same interesting combo of heist film & character drama about coping with loss and the struggle to survive after losing a spouse. The part of the movie about the dirty machinations of Chicago politics would have made a great stand-alone film.

I must admit that I really enjoyed the first half of the film, but then it just lost me. It felt like it was building up to something, but nothing really happened.

I have some weird disconnect with Martin McDonagh movies where I can completely see how they get reviewed the way that they do and also why people love his sh*t, but I just can never get into his stuff. Everyone loves In Bruges and Three Billboards and it just bores me to death. McDonagh's stuff, at least for me, it's too much of a slog to get to whatever the ending usually is, of which there really isn't ever one anyways.

Seeing this actually made me watch it again. Damn good movie, especially since I recently moved into short positions myself

Ryan Reynolds is a national treasure. The wifey and I have watched a bunch of his movies in the last 6 months: Red Notice, Adam Project, the Proposal, enjoyed them all. Then we saw Just Friends again for the first time in forever. That damn movie is underappreciated.

I also switched our mobile carrier to Mint when he got Rick Moranis out of retirement to do a commercial, I'm not kidding. I regret nothing, best mobile switch I ever made.

We switched to Comcast. $30 a month for two phones. The smaller carriers all go over the major carriers networks, so there isn't a lot of risk.

I watched Slumdog Millionaire, the '08 Oscar winner. I liked the structure, with all the flashbacks showing the guy's life and how he got to the moment the movie revolves around. Heck of a good movie, and the lead actress, Freida Pinto, is gorgeous.

What are some classic movies you film fans out there have never seen? And what's the reason? I moved recently and I was unpacking my movie collection. I have "The Cincinnati Kid" still in its cellophane wrapping. I've owned it for years and have never watched it and it doesn't make sense. I hear it's a great movie with a terrific cast. I used to be an avid poker player so the subject matter is right up my alley. But every time I pick it up I put it back down and think "another time." Maybe it's because I know how it ends. I can't put my finger on exactly why I haven't just fired the movie up and watched it.

I've never sat a watched Metropolis or Nausferatu all the way through,... I've tried but it's hard to sit all the way through the silent movies. Moveis that are on the usual list of greatest-ever films that I've also never seen are: Singing in the Rain, Mulholland Drive, Seven Samari, The Prestige, Sunset Blvd,...

We discussed this a few years ago in this thread, but I realized that there were a lot of classic and just great movies I'd never watched, so I began compiling a list of the top 100 films. That soon grew well beyond 100 as I got a lot of good recommendations from others in here and I started looking at lists of the best comedies, dramas, spy movies, films about particular wars, and etc. My list is up to over 580 now. I try to watch 3 or 4 from it each week. Still a lot of the classics I haven't gotten to yet.

I don't get emotional watching movies. I can count the times on one hand and have fingers left over. Then I watched A Man Called Otto today. Crap. Got me. Hanks does an outstanding job and never overacts or tries to oversell his character. Just a great love story about a man and his late wife. Yes, it's a bit predictable and sentimental, but it's still very good.
I was very surprised at A Man Called Otto, good stuff, even if predictable as you mentioned.

I've never seen Schindler's List.

Thirty years since it came out and I don't know that I can really sit through it and digest. Obviously heavy subject matter and a highly rated film, but I honestly don't know that I can watch it.

It's heavy, to say the least. My all-time favorite film, and one of only three to make me cry. If you ever decide to watch it (and I highly recommend you do... everyone needs to see it once), clear your calendar for the evening. It's not a movie to watch in bits & pieces over a few nights, and it's definitely not something to watch while you're taking calls, surfing, dealing with kids, etc.

I saw it in the theater and at least two or three times since.
Well worth the 3+ hours and really evokes some emotions.

just finally went to the local IMAX movie theatre 30 mins away in Lafayette to see john wick 4 this afternoon and all i can say is that the non stop violent action was f#cking awesome. would highly recommend anyone seeing these four movies if you haven't and don't mind really violent action in movies.

The 40 degrees, 15 mph winds, and pouring rain made my Sunday morning round unenjoyable (still somehow shot 88) and I thawed out by stretching out on the couch for my annual viewing of Master and Commander.
I really wish they made this into the series of films that was originally planned. Russell Crowe is spectacular (like usual) and this film is smack in the middle of his ten year run of being the best actor on the planet. Please watch if you haven't already.

Just know it's an art film disguised as an action drama so don't expect Pirates of the Caribbean.

The final ‘ring’ scene isn’t really talked about much,… made the whole movie for me. Even after all that,… he felt like he failed so many. Breaks me every time
