Escape From Pristoria on nflixs was good. A good jail break. That Harry Potter isn’t a bad actor.

Just got out of Dune

That’s a resounding “yes” for me. Beautiful, epic in scale, the script and acting backs it up, and it was pretty faithful to the book.

Don’t watch it on HBO Max. Go see it in a theater, preferably Dolby Digital or IMAX… or both, because this movie needs to do numbers so the sequel gets the green light.

Dune is so much better in the theater, especially with Dolby Digital. Wow.

Started watching it on HBO after I had seen it in the theater, and ended up turning it off. Not the same movie without the right sound system, imo. Sound is used as so much a part of the ambiance and scene setup.

I have some nice speakers, but wow it's a huge difference in the theater that I cannot describe it.

Dune was good but interrupting every major scene with a minute of dream sequences was too much for me,… we get it, the girl will be important at some point,… you don’t need twenty extra minutes of screen time showing her over, and over, and over,… it was just way too much and became my main takeaway

Anyone in here ever watch The Kid Detective? Came out in 2020. It's the story of a former "kid detective" who solves neighborhood mysteries for quarters who is now a pathetic 31 year old man. His chance at redemption arrives when a young girl shows up at his office looking to hire him for a murder case.

IMO a really great movie. Rides the line between darkly funny and sad extremely well. I would highly recommend watching it knowing only what I've written above.

So great! I watched it because RedLetterMedia highly recommended it. Great movie.

Saw Nightmare Alley in black and white this week. Not the biggest fan of del Toro but it was very good. Great noir movie.

Saw No Time to Die tonight. I hadn't seen a true action film in a while, but thought it was pretty good! I'll miss D Craig as Bond. Thought he did a great job in the role.

Don't Look up.

The interview scene with Ariana Grande was a masterpiece, and too true.

The ending. well, that was fine.,....................

Just saw the Northman. Not my favorite of Eggers because it's basically just Hamlet but it's the most metal movie I've ever seen and it's not close.

If you did LSD and blasted the Immigrant Song at full volume I'm pretty sure that movie would be your trip.

I liked it a lot, especially the early Viking raider scenes,… best Vikings scenes I think I’ve ever seen. I didn’t realize it was essentially Hamlet until right at the very end. I felt kind of silly when I did finally realize it

For me:
Vvitch

Northman

Lighthouse

I can’t wait for Nosferatu tho,… that guys style SHOULD (fingers crossed) suit the story very well.

That final battle on a fuckin volcano was sick. Him stabbing the guy with no nose was gruesome too.

I was disappointed to be honest. The best parts of the movie were in the first 30 minutes, and then it just dragged. I feel like the trailer misrepresented the movie (About 80% of the scenes in the trailer are from the beginning of the film btw). I was expecting vikings, revenge, and action but instead got Hamlet.

The nose stab was one of those moments that's so fun in a theater. Seeing and hearing everyone in the room squirming in their seats as it happened was great. I do love that the movie didn't shy away from how brutal those people were. Starting the main plot of the movie with our "hero" slaughtering a village and letting a bunch of kids get burned alive was a good indication of what we're in for.

Directing was on point as usual. He has a way of shooting that's so intimate that it feels almost voyeristic, like you're watching something private that you shouldn't be around for.

Just watched/streamed 13 Ghosts,… good lord that might be one of the worst films I’ve ever watched, even a charismatic Matt Lillard couldn’t come close to making that worth watching. Not scary, not fun, not coherent, just over the top bad.

Matt Lillard is charismatic? I was watching Good Girls with the wife on Netflix. I enjoy Christina Hendricks'...assets, but I find Matthew Lillard insufferable. I can't tell you how many times I wish the gang dude in the show would just off him. A lot of that is the way his character is written, tbh, but at the same time I can't really think of any roles he's played where I've been impressed. Scream, Scooby Doo (Wow, apparently there's a lot of Scooby Doo-Doo out there), Without a Paddle...She's All That? That's about all I recognize in his list of work. Hey, he did win a "Best Fart" award at the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards though. That's as prestigious as an Oscar. In short, Matthew Lillard sucks.

When you see he's been cast in mostly what used to be called "B" movies, that should tell you a lot about his acting.

Ya'll are forgetting the summertime smash hit romcom Summer Catch, with Freddie Prinze Jr., Jessica Biel at the height of her glory, and the aforementioned Matthew Lillard. Just a wonderful bad movie, good dumb fun, and turn-your-brain-off laughs from our boy Mr. Lillard.

I used to stay at a friend's house most of the summer back in middle school, and we kept that movie on repeat one summer... we thought Matthew Lillard was the funniest actor since Jim Carey, and that Jessica Biel was the type of hot older girl that we'd actually have a chance at. We got every one of Lillard's movies that we could from the library one day. Without A Paddle became our go-to movie a couple years later lol.

it amazes me sometimes what gets Ulk all fired up,… what a strange world he must live in lol
Wifey and I have been Neflix and chillin' with that show this summer. It's not great, it has some moments, but yeah...I literally just had this discussion with her on how Matthew Lillard is so damn punchable in this show. There's not a great plot to speak of, and I won't spoil it...I'll just say he plays a fuck up that can't help but continually fuck shit up. Then we got to talking about his previous roles and I just came to the realization he sucks in everything he plays. It's like you picked an opportune time to come in with the "charismatic Matt Lillard" line, fresh wound

Saw Nightmare Alley. I think I hated it? I called the "twist/ironic" ending about 30 minutes in, but it was more of a "Oh no, they're not going to have him end up *spoiler omitted* are they? I hope not. That would be really stupid and obvious."

Also the morality of the movie was all over the place. On the one hand, all the carnies all talk about how immoral it is to do a "spook show" as a mentalist. The movie's message makes them out to be mostly good people who are wise to have this rule. But these same carnies also just accept that their camp routinely picks up drunk hobos, get them addicted to opium without their knowledge, and then use the addiction to force the hobo to live like a caged animal for a freak show. The movie is so focused on judging Bradley Cooper's character for being a shady conman that it totally misses that every "good" character in the movie is implicitly ok with the war crime happening in their camp. It all just felt very contrived.
