Finally watched Darkest Hour and I thought it was an excellent movie. While it only captures a four to five week period of Churchill as PM, it captures the most important part IMO. And Gary Oldman played the part well - as did the other supporting actors/actresses.

I've tried to watch it twice. I fell asleep both times in the first 10 minutes. Still going to give a third try, this time mid day with some caffeine.

Agreed. Incredibly sad. Any father that could do that to his kid should be shot. Honestly it's her story that really kicked me in the head and reversed my attitude on the entire family.

That just made me sick. I had never heard about Rosemary, she could've had a very normal life, there are plenty of people who continue on with lower IQs. Such a shame.

Watched Chappaquiddick a few days a go. Good, not great. Definitely worth a watch if you have interest in the Kennedy family.

I've been very curious since the producer claimed that some powerful DC and Hollywood folk tried to kill the movie.

It did drive me to read up on the facts of the case. As a Catholic kid born in the 70s who grew up idolizing everything about the Kennedy family,,,,, the more I learn, the sillier I feel.

Rosemary Kennedy's story is like something out of a horror movie

I was 9 when Kennedy was elected president and did the same thing. Chappaquiddick is when I first started to open my eyes. Today I have absolutely no respect for the family. Starting with Joe, they were ruthless, totally narcissistic and would do whatever it took to have their way. They thought having the public know about Rosemary would somehow tarnish the Kennedy name. Joe Kennedy would go crazy trying to control things in today's "connected" world.

The wife and I watched The Orient Express and The Mountain Between Us last week. Don't bother.

When I was a wee lad in the late 70s, my Irish Catholic grandmother gave me a framed pic of JFK which I hung on my wall till I left for college. I idolized the guy even though he was long dead by my birth, and looked at the family as royalty like most Catholics did.... Just goes to show you how wrong we can be about things when we blindly put our trust in people based on things we hold sacred.

A father butchering a daughter's brain because of his own shame and the family's cover-up, the mother disowning her daughter (Kick) and not even going to her funeral, Joe Jr.'s praising of Hitler and his sterilization policy, John's philandering, and Ted's leaving a girl to die and then lying about it..... Lot's of skeletons...

You've aged well my friend lol. Didn't realize you were old AF :)
And yes, crazy f'ing Patriarch and some shit kids. Not all were bad though. All the girls seem to have been only good, and we'll never know about Bobby.

It's crazy to think,... behind socially and academically... lower than average IQ but not cripplingly so. Pretty girl, who apparently became rebellious. That can describe so many kids I've taught over the years... very sad.

Watched Thor: Ragnarok with my boys a couple weeks ago. They loved it, which prompted us to start watching every MCU film in chronological order. Watched Captain America: The First Avenger on Friday night with the boys and my dad, which was fun because Cap was my dad's favorite super hero growing up.

Watched Solo on Saturday with my boys, and was pleasantly surprised. It was mostly panned by critics, so I went in with low expectations. It was cliched, but Han himself is a cliche (space cowboy), and the movie still managed to hit all the right notes. I liked it a lot better than TLJ, to be honest.

I have no doubt whatsoever that when I sit down to watch Solo I'll find it much more enjoyable than TLJ... which doesn't say much.

On the Witch, I found the presentation of the era and lifestyle of those who lived in said era to be far more compelling and enjoyable than the core story line. I'd watch it again just for that aspect, which I thought was amazingly well done.

This is my main desire to watch the film

I think I'm gonna watch The VVitch tonight, bad idea

Oh man you're in for a treat.

Did anyone see Ant Man and the Wasp yet?

Yeah I though it was like a solid B. Humor mostly lands and there are some fun and interesting action scenes. Nothing ground breaking, but after the 7 course meal that was Infinity War all Ant Man had to be was a nice pallet cleanser. I think it succeeded.

I agree, I wasn't a huge fan of the first one

I actually quote liked the first one. It could have done with 75% less of those little kids, but it wasn't bad overall.

This second one woof. The storyline is such a mess I wouldn't even know where to begin. None of it makes sense and half of it contradicts shit that's already been established in the previous movies.

BDH is hot af in both though, so that's a plus.

Freckles killed it. I'm surprised she hasn't had more big roles outside this franchise since Lost. I wonder if she moved away from acting for a time or something?

Yeah she's really really good looking. Like almost distractingly.

If by Freckles you mean Evangeline Lily, she was in the Wolverine Origins movie and Hobbit movies.

She did take a break, I think to have a kid.

I watched Lost because she was so distracting. If she wasn't in it, I would have quit after season 2. She's on my top 10 list lol.

Wolverine and Hobbit weren't really roles that showcased her freckles :)

Watched The Foreigner with Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan. Definitely recommend it. More of a thriller with some action sets and probably more screen time for Brosnan than Chan. But had more depth and complexity than I assumed from all my years of watching Jackie Chan movies.

Predictable, but good IMO.

Very predictable. Maybe that's why it didn't do a lot for me.

They basically took the creature from Alien and used the sound effects from the Predator. How did he manage to set up his lights and alarm systems without the creature hearing him? They let their kids kind of roam while this creature was out there? They wouldn't be more than 15-20 feet away from me and my wife if that were us. Just sayin'.

This. That scene after he realizes his daughter was gone just wrecked me. Such a gratifying movie.
