Caught Black Panther earlier this week, probably my favorite Marvel to date. Didn't rely on non stop CGI action scenes and was self contained to it's own part of the Marvel Universe. Michael B Jordan was easily the best Marvel villain so far and Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright were stars as well. Really looking forward to Ryan Coogler's next work.

Anyone seen I, Tonya?? It's the only movie currently in theaters I'm really interested in seeing...

You’re just going to see if Margot Robbie’s beef curtains accidentally slip out the bottom of her costume.

So far in the Best Picture marathon I've seen Get Out, 3 Billboards, Phantom Thread, and Darkest Hour. My choice for BP would be 3 Billboards at the moment, though I'll be seeing the heavy hitters starting tonight with The Shape of Water.

Also, I saw Black Panther last night. Good stuff; not a masterpiece that people were hyping a couple of weeks ago.

The Shape of Water couldn't sound less interesting to my tastes... artsy flick about a chick who falls for swamp thing... okay.

Is this part of Universal's dark monster universe creature from the black lagoon as a romance kind of thing?

3 billboards was good.. Also enjoyed darkest hour.

Down year for movies IMHO, but I did enjoy 3BBs. FM was money as always. Out of all the movies I saw, I'd say this should win. But again, down year IMO.

Rockwell was amazing and it will be criminal if he doesn't win best supporting actor.

Going to watch Darkest Hour sometime in the next couple of days. I heard it was good, but not fantastic. Heard the same thing about The Post. Anyone seen it?

I saw The Shape of Water on Wednesday, and Call Me By Your Name last night.

I gotta say, The Shape of Water does not deserve to be nominated. It's just not in the same caliber, though I did find it fairly enjoyable.

Call Me By Your Name was the one I figured I'd dislike, finding it overly sensual and boring. Instead I thought it was maybe the best directed of all 8 I've seen (Lady Bird is slated for Sunday). Chalamet did a tremendous job with the role, and the overall film was well-shot. Of course it suffered from too many sex scenes (I lost count at 4), but overall I found it very good. The music was on point too

I saw The Post Super Bowl Sunday. Good stuff but solidly in the bottom of the list of nominees on my rankings. Fun flick, but not great. Also, Streep's and Hanks' accents were distracting to me

"Ninotchka." A very charming movie with Greta Garbo. I don't people who don't like old movies. Watching a black and white movie from 1939 is almost like watching a different medium from current films. People say they want something different. How about a witty movie that doesn't have to edit every 1.7 seconds and gives even 10th billed supporting players dialogue so well-crafted that modern A-listers would murder someone for the chance to get?

I like many of the older movies too. As you point out, some of them are exceptionally good with great acting from top to bottom and better edited than movies today. I watched Gone With The Wind a couple of weeks ago and it still holds up nicely.

I just watched one minute of the Oscars and heard no less than four unneeded, petty, political attacks... now maybe I just tuned in for the hotness but I doubt it. Yet the, 'we accept all, while those bigots dont' set wonder why ratings have taken a hit and they just can't figure why the nation votes against them more often than not... this isn't hard to figure out, if the left wants to ram their agenda down our throats they'd better stop trying to openly ram their agenda down our throats.

I can't watch the crap anymore. Notice I said that I got an alert....
Hollywood, sports, music.... it's hard to find "just" entertainment anymore without a healthy dose of left, and even larger dose of hypocrisy..

Peele just won for original screenplay for a movie that wan't original... Good movie, but not Oscar worthy or original.

Instead of the Oscars, I watched the RiffTrax version of Night of the Living Dead with bonus short of Norman Gives A Speech.

Thanks Amazon Prime!

It was a good movie, but you are spot on.
Very shitty year for movies. The 2010s have been pretty shitty overall.

Hollywood is spending too much time trying to be artsy, cerebral, and political. Just make a few good flicks without all the messaging please.

Last year was great, Manchester by the Sea was so amazing. And Whiplash back in 2014 was great. Both were runners up to good works.

I watched the Shape of Water and man, I just didn't get it. The acting was good enough, I just really didn't like the story. It did nothing for me. I was actually pretty grossed out by it.

SPOILER WARNING..........

This chick bangs a swamp monster and her co-worker and neighbor don't seem the least bit creeped out by it. WTF?

Did not watch any of it. However, with all the the celebrity news about Cosby, Weinstein, Spacey, etc. and the backlash, how in the hell does Kobe Bryant even get nominated let alone win? The dude had actual criminal rape charges (which he admitted to) filed against him and Hollywood gives him a pass? Hollywood lives in their own little world and then wants to be the sounding board for America's conscious?
