Oh, I completely agree with you, I just don't agree with giving it the grade they did. He's not a bad coach, but I don't think he's a great coach, and with all that seems to follow him throughout his career. He just wasn't going to have any better options out there for a HC gig.

I think he was closer to getting the Houston gig than we realize, but overall I agree with you. I wonder if Baylor would have gone after him if they didn't get Rhule.

Well.....they seemed to let Briles do whatever he wanted until it got to be too much, and they didn't have a choice, I think you could be right in that Baylor may have been a possibility.

CUSA has gotten way more competitive over the past few years, but WKU's roster was loaded, and ready-made for Sanford's offense.

Really a pretty disappointing transition season when he had so much talent and so many veterans to lean on.

Interested to see if they can compete with FAU next year if Sanford doesn't get the Arizona job.

Footballscoop is saying that the Sanford rumor is just that...a rumor. Sumlin would take the job at Arizona, but money is the hold up.

I mentioned this in the DC thread, but some of these coaches & coordinators are pricing themselves out of jobs. Of the autonomous 5 ~65 schools, my guess is roughly half are able and willing to spend $4-$5m a year on a head coach. Hell, in some cases, it's becoming more lucrative to be a CFB coach than NFL coach. It's insane.

Sanford signed the highest ranked class in school history and signed the schools first 4 star recruit in QB Kevaris Thomas (247 has him ranked as a 90 - 4 star)
