Only Georgia has scored 20 points against us. Every other team under 20. Amazing.

All the USC points came from "4th and ah what the heck" as well.

Elko could completely collapse ala BVG, but it wouldn't matter. We will always have 49-14 over #11 USC.

BVG did have 37-0* over UM...

Yeah, but the more you look back at that game you realize it may have had less to do with BVG and more to do with the fact Michigan's offense was fairly inept that year. I mean, they were bragging that they "poached" Saban's OC that was fired the previous year. The guy had all the talent in the world to work with and still was fired from Bama.

On the other hand this is a pretty good USC team with a lot of talent, but our defense was clearly outplaying them for most of the game.

Don't me wrong, I completely agree with you. I believe Elko is the real deal, and, in a different thread, I even mentioned that I think Elko is an integral piece needed to restore Notre Dame football. After a couple years, if he's still around and our defense is still at this level, I'll be claiming he's worth more to the program than Brian Kelly (assuming he's still around). I don't think the defensive talent is top ten worthy, but the way Elko has the team playing absolutely is top ten worthy. The amount of errors opposing teams are committing against this defense is unreal, and given Elko's track record, I don't think it's a fluke.

Admittedly, I'm part of the problem since I'm ready to call him the next big thing, but there's still a piece of me that needs to keep the hype in check.

Throw his name in the hat for the Broyles Award.

Guy deserves sainthood for the turnaround job he did after the shambles that clown BVG created.

Do u think BVG turns on ND games for MVG and takes notes during it? Like, “Oh that’s how you get a pass rush. That’s a good one.”

I find it hilarious that he is at Okie State as a defensive analyst. Like what is there to analyze? Big 12 dont play defense.

In all fairness, OKSt was 106 in total defense last year. They are 40th this year.

I'm not a BVG fan (AT ALL), but there is a big improvement this year (not to say that BVG is responsible).

Fair enough. I dont even know what the big 12 is doing this year. Just having a tiny go at BVG because in years past Big 12 is notorious for zero defense.

Normally I'm the first to pile on BVG lol. Not really sure what kind of impact if any he's making. I know nothing about OKSt coaching, or any coaching changes that may have impacted things.

Defensive analyst actually seems like something BVG would be great at-- watch film and theorize, while having virtually no interaction with the players. Hell, I wouldn't mind him having that role at ND. I mean it will never happen due to the wake of destruction he left behind him and the bad blood that has been spilled for the entirety of ND nation, but that is the role he is designed for.

Pretty in depth article on Elko on ESPN.

A good read.

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko deserves credit for the Fighting Irish's turnaround

He must be a film guru. Because his teams are always prepared for what the opposition does well, and eventually stops it. Tonight, it was the quick passing game. He’s a G
