Yeah, but the more you look back at that game you realize it may have had less to do with BVG and more to do with the fact Michigan's offense was fairly inept that year. I mean, they were bragging that they "poached" Saban's OC that was fired the previous year. The guy had all the talent in the world to work with and still was fired from Bama.
On the other hand this is a pretty good USC team with a lot of talent, but our defense was clearly outplaying them for most of the game.
Don't me wrong, I completely agree with you. I believe Elko is the real deal, and, in a different thread, I even mentioned that I think Elko is an integral piece needed to restore Notre Dame football. After a couple years, if he's still around and our defense is still at this level, I'll be claiming he's worth more to the program than Brian Kelly (assuming he's still around). I don't think the defensive talent is top ten worthy, but the way Elko has the team playing absolutely is top ten worthy. The amount of errors opposing teams are committing against this defense is unreal, and given Elko's track record, I don't think it's a fluke.
Admittedly, I'm part of the problem since I'm ready to call him the next big thing, but there's still a piece of me that needs to keep the hype in check.
