I do think it's fair to say, that fans are usually optimistic about change. I get it. However I do think this is quite a bit different in that, BVG did not have a lot of collegiate succes in the years leading up to his hiring. In fact it had been roughly a decade, depending on opinion. Elko just did, with sbustantially less "talent". Check up on out the ratings, and then stats, for Marqul Lee MLB and Duke WDE. I'd say that's pretty good in the ACC.

However, it won't surpise me if we have some hiccups, and people will feel the need to overreact.

I still remember listening to the ISD podcast after the BVG hire. Sean Mele had played for BVG and was gushing about how all the players loved him and how great of a hire it was.

Something of interest to me, how does Elko view these players, that we've offered recently?

We look at some of these 3, maybe low 4, star guys on D, and get upset. When in reality, some of these players are guys that Elko recruited, and really wanted, but couldn't get, because he was at Wake. He looks at things entirely different. He's probably jacked to get a shot at Owusu, Norwood, etc.

The thing we should keep in mind about Elko is that he's never had a job at a school like Notre Dame before. When it comes to his style of recruiting he's most likely looking for those three-star diamonds in the rough, more than he is for a sure-shot four or five star guy. At least this recruiting round he is.

So if he wants to take a chance on a three-star safety or linebacker who he see's stud potential in, I'm much more inclined to go with what he projects, as it's what he's had to do his whole career.

We're in a position now where Daelin Hayes, Khalid Kareem, Dew Treadway, Ewell, MacCollister, Adams, White etc are all going to have to all become great players or else we're going to be in trouble

This is what people are missing when they talk about how everything is fine and we have depth yada yada yada.

The reality is, like you said, we can't afford to miss on anyone and we need all those guys to be impact players.

I'm excited to see what Elko can do with the guys on the defensive side of the ball. The defense has felt like a rudderless ship the past few years, propped up by some NFL caliber natural talent.

On a side note, all of the coaches in this round of interviews seem to have had Jack foisted upon them unexpectedly, and look a bit disheveled. Whatever, they're football coaches... but what the hell is going on with Elko's tie?

I can't put my finger on it, but there is something very 'genuine' in the way he answers the questions....almost like he doesn't need to be regurgitating coachspeak because that's just really how his mind works. I'm also very excited to see what we can do next year.

Very impressive stuff said about Elko today. Sounds like he's a defensive genius. I really thought about it today...Top 20 in turnovers, sacks, RZ Def. and scoring Def. with WF?? He SHOULD kill it with ND. If our defense ends up top 20 in those categories, with the talent we have on O, we COULD be dominant.

I think Nolan is extremely professional and always represents ND athletics well. He's been in the program 34 years, ever since I was born. You don't just toss a mainstay like that, he's the face of Irish Media. I still have an interactive CD-ROM from like...'93 with Nolan talking about Irish records, traditions, big games, etc. I'm okay with a guy like young Collinsworth getting work and doing some interviews for Nolan, but I disagree on the comment about Nolan not having energy or personality. I think he's professional when he needs to be, and he shows enthusiasm when warranted like his play by play work.

He reminds me of Bob Lamey who does the Colts radio broadcast. Been doing it forever and is on a roller coaster all the time. He goes from euphoria to suicide and back and forth during a game. Makes a lot of mistakes, but he's still a favorite around here.

I liked Elko's comment of buying into a system as a team as opposed to individual players. BVG, does the name Schmidt ring a bell?

I'd bet zero uncommitted recruits watched.
