So wait, is what 'Tuna said true? That our assistant coach salary pool is top ten in the country? If so, everyone is bitching about the wrong thing because we ARE paying our guys and we still can't keep them around.

I don't know, but as of now, there is such a massive disparity between the top 2-3 and everyone else. Aranda just got 2.5, Elko is at 1.8, and Levitt is 1.7. So we very well could be top 10, if it's at around 1.2-1.4 and there are several other teams hat pay in the general area. No DC was making more than 1.8, this time last year. As that's what Aranda's original contract was worth.

People got to get over this......it's football....it happens.

Aranda couldn't stop Ian Book....or more accurately his players couldn't.

Reality is...you want to be a great coach....recruit great players....find a DC who is a heck of a recruiter.

There's at minimum 15 assistants making at least a million. And that number will increase this year. ND not one of them.

I'd like to see the rankings if someone has them. I can not find anything but a top 5 (coaching staff pay), and ND not one of them.

ND is top five in profit for all of college football. Last I saw, about 100 mil a year.

ND can afford to pay more.

How many potential returning 5th years just had their mind made up for them?

Figured I would post here. Had someone ask one of the recruits if anyone might consider trying to opt out if LOI and he said no, they are all pissed but fully committed to ND. I know they are a tight group so hopefully he is correct.

Opt out?

How?

To follow up on this... for all our strengths, ND also has some unique weaknesses that make our margin for error much smaller than the football factories. Previously we didn't have to worry about our coaches making lateral moves. ND was a destination job; our coaches stayed until they either got promoted or fired.

If we now have to worry about football factories simply hiring away our best coaches because we refuse to spend like they do, our currently slim margin for error could disappear entirely. Another structural disadvantage is the last thing we need right now, but that's been the run of play since Holtz was run off.

that dude has cooked up some defenses over the years...and not with elite talent all the time...seems a 4-3 dude...Bo, come on down, you are the first contestant in $2M coordinator price is right!

maybe he is liking the Y-town state gig....but he'd be all right as DC.

If you steal a DC from Notre Dame, wouldn't you worry about the same thing happening to you in a year or two? Or is the focus so narrow that that doesn't come into play?

Until the next hire is BVG-esque. Then what?

man I think BK is over the friend thing...

I think he will dig for what he wants...maybe even pull a mike gundy and go find someone in Div II, although the meltdown here would be too much to take...hehehe.

Or the ground opens up and swallows the stadium and all the players......ya never know it could happen.

A DC will be hired and next year will carry on.

One Very good thing that may come from this will be an case for a more manageable schedule.

The world hasn't ended....we are all good. Any player or coach can go at any time...nature of the beast.

Speaking of defensive recruits, a reminder: the UA All-American Game is starting on ESPN2 -- Jack Lamb (13) and Houston Griffith (3) are lining up for, uh, Team Highlight and Team Spotlight, respectively. Lamb is starting.

Used to be that CFB blue bloods rarely had to worry about coaches leaving for greener pastures. Now there seems to be a small group of football factories willing to spend anything to get the coaches they want. That group will now enjoy the personnel advantage formerly shared by the blue bloods, and we're not in it.

Similar to Sherm, this is pretty rich. You have filled multiple threads with your "our OL is going to suck and we are going to get destroyed, if we don't land NPF." And to this, you are telling people to man up.

Makes sense

Premium, worth a read if you're an ISD member. Good, brief snap shot of how this all transpired and current status quo.

This happened really fast and without much notice, so it's not like ND tricked anyone into signing. They expected Elk-tard to be here.

Recruits are pissed but understand.

And as good as he is as a DC, he's even better at recruiting. That's the gist of it IMO.

I said that about Aranda in a previous post. We have talent, get a good coach and recruiter. It's still football. I liked Elko a lot, but he ain't coming back.
