Knapp was a three star freshman who was expected to redshirt and essentially saved the season by being a competent LT. I’d love him too if I was on the staff.

I would like to see Love and Williams more involved in the passing game. We didn’t have any plays where the backs dropped to get a wide open pass. Also no Jet Sweeps or 2 back sets.
I’d like to see the WRs more involved in the passing game.

Could be Denbrock felt the OL was a liability. Hence the screens and limited running game
I think ND knew that Miami's DEs are better than ND's OTs.

A great way to slow down DEs is to stretch the field horizontally, i.e. screens. A great way to get your young QB some confidence on the road is easy throws, i.e. screens. A safe way to test a defense that doesnt have film showing their tendencies is run easy screens while the defensive staff recognizes coverages and adjusts.

The thing I’m still the most disappointed in is the last defensive drive. We had all the juice and came all the way back and they marched it down our throats. That looked like a BK squad. Disheartening.
I get it, but at the same time it's not like they let them march all the way down and drain the clock with a chip shot. The kid had to hit a 48 yard FG and we still got the ball back with realistically enough time to get into FG range. Not saying I wasn't disappointed we didn't shut them down but it wasn't a total lapse.

They outgained us by 10 yards 324-314 and we were going backwards the last drive. This wasn’t the bloodbath some are making it out to be. We turned it over twice and they had the ball 7 more minutes
Right. Agreed totally. A lot of overreactions here. Just reading the comments you would think Carr was sacked 6x and under fire every snap and Miami ran for 250 on us and put 500 yards up on offense.

Someone please just tell me we're not Moral Victory U again.
Every team is now. There are no Albama's anymore. Like many have said even OSU lost 2 games and had to "moral victory think" their way through at least the Oregon loss last season. I have doubts there will be any zero loss teams this season.

Notre Dame reminded me of Rocky in the first fight against Clubber. They lost the eye of the tiger and their opponent was hungry and seemed to want it more. Lets hope ND is like Rocky and regains the swagger, the hunger, and the eye of the tiger.

Edit: Not to imply they didn't fight back. Love the heart to fight back to tie it!

We are not morale victory u again.

Yesterday was essentially a toss up perspective wise, and we ended up on the wrong end, because someone had to.

I personally would like our chances if we meet them again.

We will win games this year, and 11-1 wouldn’t shock me.

The sheets are dry from last night. All the bedwetters woke up this morning and realized we still have a great HC and team.

Anyone think Lambert is a better option at LT?
Knapp is a bit of an Anthony Volpe to me. The staff love him and nobody can work out why.
Guerby arguably had the worse game against Miami. Easier matchups but still atrocious results. And if you switch your LT and RG, you're throwing off all 5 OL plus however many TEs you're playing. Familiarity with the guy next to you is important. I'm not pulling for a position switch at the moment. Next spring, sure.

Maybe it's because Lambert was hurt in the spring but I'm not sure why they didn't simply switch him and Knapp in the offseason. Knapp's a good run blocker but he's too small for tackle and gets beat by good edge rushers. Lambert is still learning the game at this level but clearly has the upside.

So much for those two back sets.

Tennis as a Lineman??? Wow, what were you weighing 250-260?
This was in the early 80’s so 230 during football season and 220 during tennis. Lineman in high school back then in SoCal were smaller. I played center because I could long snap and shotgun well. Average lineman was closer to 240.

On one hand it was painful that Eli had the longest catch of the game when it could've been Fields, Greahouse, Faison, Love, Price, or Gilbert.

On the other hand it was the catch that ND needed.
Hey I’m just glad he caught it! Three drops up to then.

Yes, I'm assuming Jagusah/Lambert injuries are why Knapp remained at LT.

I have some positives and A LOT of negatives from this game:

Positives:

  • CJ Carr is a dude. Easily looked like one of the best QB's ND has had in a long time.
  • Jordan Faison was very impressive. Very athletic and slippery.
  • Boubacar Traore was inconsistent, but when he was on, he was very noticeable.
  • Biagi did a good job and ST was very consistent.

Negatives:

  • I know it's his first game as DC, but Chris Ash did so much damage to the reputation of this defense. Was it a terrible game? Not statistically. But man, it was really disheartening seeing how passive the defense played. ND's defense has done a great job of not giving up momentum breaking drives on defense over the years. They did that last night, REPEATEDLY.
  • Mike Denbrock....what in the absolute fuck were you smoking last night? Dude called probably the worst game I've ever remembered him calling. You have the best running back in CFB. He touched the 14 times last night. Off rip, they put the game in the hands of CJ and did next to nothing to try and establish the run game. Mind boggling.
  • The offensive line STUNK. What an absolutely shameful performance. I would go into all of them individually but 2 of them are captains and....we'll get to that in a second. But special mention to Anthonie Knapp, in a cavalcade of atrocious performances in the trenches, he stood out as being especially dookie-tier. He got worked over and over and over. For all the good that Joe Rudolph did last year, his unit did the exact opposite last night. Unacceptable.
  • The captains...to say I'm disappointed in how they played would be a massive understatement. It's remarkable how you have SIX captains, and somehow EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM stunk last night. Bowen got pushed around. Donovan Hinish...what an embarrassment to the Hinish name, at least by last night's performance. Adon Shuler....I gotta say, not many people would pick the middle of a crucial play to temporarily lobotomize yourself, but Adon here is a pioneer. Schrauth and Wagner both led the charge in the trenches like they were the love children of Custer and McClellan. The leadership is crucial, and every leader on this team failed Sunday.
Overall, I shouldn't feel as concerned as I am right now following a 3 point loss on the road to a top 10 team, but the way ND was manhandled in the trenches, as well as the ungodly horrid work from all of the leaders on this team, both players and coaches, it doesn't fill me with optimism.

We entered the game thinking QB was the biggest question mark. Frankly, I left this game with more questions at nearly every position BUT QB.

Gotcha, I was thinking early 90s but understandable in the 80s a 230-240lb guy would easily be 265 for Football FR year.

as good as this was... he could have just dumped it to J Love right away and it would have been a TD.

im just saying Love could have won that game

Hindsight, especially because he had a DL in his grill when Love was open.

The line looks good there except for 1 guy. Does Knapp always drop back so far?

I'm not sure. He was under immediate pressure. Unless that is the initial call, the dump off is usually when you've went through your progressions and can't find anyone.

I’m starting to believe it was less about how great the OL was last year, but more about the threat of Riley Leonard’s legs.
