I know the hypocrisy of startinga thread to complain about threads but seriously, there are multiple Rees is starting threads, what went wrong Saturday threads, Beat Michigan threads. Just because you give them a different title does not mean it is different. I know you guys really want your point heard but that does not mean you have to start a new thread about it (I am talking to you Rudy). Can we please get this cleaned up? I even volunteer to do it if you can't, but it is getting very annoying.

Please guys lets clean the boards up. This isn't gold helmet

Mine too. Especially on game-day which is why I never post during the game (also a not to Rudy)

How about a solution of no new threads during the game?

It would channel the rage/elation to the game thread, where it belongs; and important side notes could marinate in the brains of the board and hopefully turn into thoughtful compositions once the game ended?

Would be great to integrate a game day LiveChat feature into the website.

Keith Arnold hosts one on the NBC site.

I'm with Jason. All these threads could be condensed into a handful of threads max.

i have an idea, i think ill just make a general "Michigan Vent" thread a few hours before gametime. sweep all the junk into one thread. i also agree, perhaps put a 12-24 hour "freeze" (if possible) so that we dont repeat last week

No offense but if you want mods to help then message them directly or at least put this in the right forum section, "Help, Feedback, and Suggestions".

I think the issue is the aftermath of the game when insigh and conspiracy theories run wild...

How about don't respond to the threads that seem pointless to you, and the smart folks can post in the threads that meet their needs?

How about a post limit for game day threads. Solves all the new accounts and people with less than 500 posts are locked out until the next day. Frankly you should have that many posts to your credit before you can start a new thread anyways.

I like the limit of post before you can make a new thread, but more like 100 or so because 500 is alot of post.

What? You mean no more people joining just to start a thread looking for tickets?

We merged, moved, and deleted so many threads on Sunday and Monday morning it's not even funny. (And of course some people complain about 'over-policing' LOL) I don't mind the complaints at all jasonh, but in this case I don't see it. I looked at the front page right now and there is a Crist vs. Rees thread, a Rees thread about this being different for him, and a Crist thread about where he goes from here. IMO those threads have been taken to different places than the Crist vs. Rees thread. Other than that, I see no other active threads that can be combined. And if there are some out there that I missed, by all means, let us know and we'll merge them if necessary.

UHND has one. Really helps keep the main board clean. Until we lose of course...

I would be interested in a live chat. I would love to mix it up with you knuckle heads during the game.

I hate to break it to you guys but there's been a LIVE CHAT GAME DAY THREAD on this site since it began. It used to listed under a schedule on the right side of the Front Page but for the past few years Phamer has placed it smack dab at the TOP of the Front Page.

See the "2011 Schedule"? (Last year it said 2010)

See the team ICONS for each of the 2011 Opponents and the DATE for each game?

Click on that Big Blue Michigan "M". It opens up a thread called Sept 10 | Michigan, amazing. (And if you look at the first post you'll see Phamer set this up on 8/2/11, more than a month ago.)

Okay maybe a Direct Link is too estoric. Then try this. Go to the Front Page and click on "Forums" in the Blue Banner at the TOP of the page. See where it says, "Play Like A Champion Today"? OK now look right below that and you'll see "Notre Dame Football". I know you know how to get there cause that's the place everybody opens redundant threads. Now click on "Notre Dame Football" and the first subforum in the new window is http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/notre-dame-game-day/
Click on that link and lo and behold there are the Game Day Threads for the entire 2011 season. They may not be in chronological order as the thread order reflects the most recent posts.

If those are too tough to navigate wait until game time and then look for the thread that stays at the top of the Front Page list and gets lots of posts.

Whether you a new "knuckle head" or an old one, it's best to work your way around a site and learn how to use it before asking for new features that have been here for 6 years.

As for a live chat every day, there was one initially but it attracted too many trolls and lots of smack fights and trashing developed which wasn't part of the concept of this site. It was disabled and never re-implemented. I believe the thought was that taking time to compose a post would help people think about what they're saying before blurting out a the first expletive that came to mind. It's also the reason for the 30 second time delay between making posts.

*Ahem*

LiveChat != Thread. Not sure why my modest suggestion deserved such a lengthy reprimand.

As for trolls, it obviously has to be moderated. During Keith Arnold's game day LiveChats, only comments he approves get posted to the chat; though that's probably an unhelpful model, since his "chat" is 90% him calling the game and 10% answering worthy questions or passing on appropriately phrased sentiments.

It would just make it easier to discuss the game among colleagues here without having to click "Refresh" every 5 seconds. Perhaps we could limit the chat to those with at least 100 posts?

I won't be heartbroken if it's not workable.

couldn't a live chat be set up so a MOD could eject someone starting "smack fights and trashing"? I'm new to IE and I've been enjoying it very much. Hearing others insights and opinions along with awesome knowledge of ND history and stats etc. is great, but I feel nothing beats real time conversation/commentary during the game. GO IRISH!

The response was directed to three posts as noted.

I won't be heartbroken if it's not workable.

The software used on this site doesn't allow the moderator prior approval nor get around the "Refesh" requirement as I recall from my days as a mod 5 years ago and again last year. Every post goes up and then the mods have to read and react on the fly, after the fact, while they're trying to watch the game as well.

I've done GameDay moderating and while the mod is trying to read the posts, he's getting PMs or Post Reports (that icon that looks like an International Road Sign next to the Rep Icon) complaining about trolls, language, player trashing, urinating contests, drunks, etc. The mod reads the offending post and either PMs the poster or posts a response to that poster. Frequently with the level of gameday posts, the response can be several pages later. Mods have to hit "Refresh" as well. So after reading the complaints, responding with a PM and/or post, the mod then has to read 3 or 4 pages to catch up.

Sometimes the poster, particularly when drinking, gets angry, screams censorship and launches an attack on the mod or mods. At a time like now (low traffic) the mod might have several exchanges with the poster in question. In a GameDay thread the posts come quicker and the mod doesn't have the luxury of 15 minutes of explaining board policy and repeated warnings. In a GameDay thread action comes sooner out of necessity. Mods try to prevent board meltdowns and situations from getting out of hand. Most times they're successful. Other times they issue an Infraction. Repeat Infractions generate short term bans. Repeated bans generate longer or permanate bans. All of which takes time for the mod to deal with.

It would be nice to have the resources Keith Arnold apparently has at his disposal but I don't think this software is close to what he has.

IE might be able to eliminate posters with less than a specified number of posts but that knocks out the long time member but occasional poster, well intentioned noobs, and well mannered opponent fans looking for dialog not smack. New posters are restricted here from opening new treads based on posting volume. it requires a mod prior approval but unfortunately such a post frequently doesn't get a mod approval until days or longer after the newbie creates the thread.

Click on the USF GameDay Thread and you'll see real time you'll be able to read last week's "real time conversation/commentary during the game".
