Yeah, the DEI stuff is par for the course, though. That's the air we breathe.

Pretty wild, though, if you take those three horrible losses away he's 30-5 overall. Totally bonkers.

I swear to Jesus

I don't have the same lethal right hook I used to, I'm old, my back is held together by velcro and chewing gum, I have deadly high blood pressure, and my knees can't support my 6 5 frame like it used to. (I'm a mess)

But if I heard anyone talk about DEI in real life, I would absolutely give my last gasp making them regret that choice.

Agreed but here it’s in such bad faith. Everyone on this board followed the bk leaving drama close enough and understood the score. 90+% of us were on board with the hire and 10% were vacillating between wait for fuckle and never freeman bc no head coaching experience. There was zero dei issue in anyones mind then. I member 🍇
Also did anyone else get the icky lame vibe on how fickle coached out the Oregon game no thank you

I know I have been hard on Freeman although I really do like him and want him to be here a while. I would like to see his extension signed by January 1, 2025.

8 years 10 million a year plus incentives.

Let's see some top level recruiting before we throw out that kind of cheddar

Best part about future recruiting, the younger generation is finally turning back to the church and Our Savior.
I can honestly say that we have fought off demons and the everyday naysayer about our program for 20+ years
We can finally recruit with the best, and it's becoming more clear these last couple years.
Kids are waking up, and we as a program can thank some particular high end administrations for this sudden change of faith.

God bless our kids and the future of this country.

Personally (100% my opinion), I also feel a more challenging decade for the stock market and the economy is upon us where we can see something like the 70s (up and down consolidation period that only happens every 50-100 years depending on the severity of it). My point being, I anticipate there will be more appreciation of playing football and getting an education (at least I think there will be a pickup in the number of athletes looking for this to secure their future). And if I'm right, this may coincide with a more challenging environment for collective orgs raising NIL $ so maybe that $ will not be as plentiful either. So I would think this leads to a lot more interest in CFB programs like ND that are more academically oriented which of course will help ND recruiting. Again, my opinion... We'll see

Just noticed that MFMF officially has a higher win percentage at ND than Brian Kelly does.

Took a minute to climb out of it after starting his career at 0-3

What I'd like to see is a massive fucking buyout clause for any school that tries to come snag him from us. Double for OSU.

Our annual list of rising young coaches is on the longer side for the third consecutive year, thanks to both a new crop of talent and the increased number of interviews many teams have been conducting in recent searches amidst revised rules that slow and extend the hiring cycle. This collection of names below is based on dozens of recent conversations with NFL executives, coaches and others close to the search process.

...

Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman, 38: A fifth-round draft pick of the Bears in 2009, Freeman never appeared in a regular-season game. But Freeman's story in pro football may not be written just yet. NFL teams have inquired about Freeman in recent years amidst his meteoric rise in coaching, from his first GA job at his alma mater (Ohio State) in 2010 to becoming the head coach of one of college football's most iconic programs (Notre Dame) 11 years later. Since taking over in the aftermath of Brian Kelly's midnight exit for LSU, Freeman has led the Fighting Irish to a 28-9 record and current No. 6 national ranking. He's an engaging presence who will win the interview -- if and when he's willing to take one.

Interesting and thanks for posting, but he's the only college coach listed among the 22. Can't help but wonder if that's for effect. It's got my attention, that much is for sure, but that's probably the point.

Right now I won't blame anyone for taking an NFL opportunity. I would be curious as to what the interest in Freeman is and if it is legit. I suppose I could see it.

I’m not sure if Freeman is a championship caliber coach, but he appears to be an elite leader. I get the sense that his greatest impact will be at the college level, where his influence seems to extend beyond the game. This is just my perception - who the hell knows what happens behind closed doors - but if my perception is accurate, I hope he stays in college.

He's turning into a great CEO coach. He's not going to out X and O's you, but he relates to kids, motivates, and knows how to assemble a staff. I could see him eventually in the NFL, but not without a lot more seasoning. Imo, he would be wise to stay put and break all the records here.

With the track record on college to NFL coaches I don’t see a franchise taking a shot on any college coach at the moment, but NFL teams do dumb shit often.

With time, I could see MF growing into a Mike Tomlin type coach.

Hopefully its still at ND.

IDK if Bill O'Brien gets another bite at the apple. Highly doubt Chip Kelly does. There was Ryan Day smoke for a bit but I think NFL GMs are putting that on major hold until he wins something. As they should.

Right now I don't know that anyone has truly revealed himself as being a serious contender for that jump. I guess we'll see what Dan Lanning accomplishes.

I forgot about O’Brien being at BC, he was a good NFL coach, it was when he got player control it went downhill. Either Deshaun Watson had a horrendous fall off or O’Brien was propping him up all those years

Foreman, Hopkins, Watt, Romeo Crennel as DC. Maybe they were propping him up a bit. He won four divisions in 6 years.

The HC should be in the room for those decisions, but giving HC player control typically hasn't gone well. There are exceptions to the rule, but that's one good example of the rule.

The list of those who have successfully done it this century is basically Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll. It's a massive step up.
