Unless Freeman can coach linebackers that means Joseph is out correct?
I mean he was a linebacker in college, no? I'm sure there's some flexibility if he doesn't already coach the position.

Yes, he was a LB at OSU and he's also a LB's coach currently. They announced him as the DC and LB's coach.

To those comments regarding negative posts towards ND, it’s simply frustration for those of us who just want to reach the top. I want this team to be considered with the likes of the Big Boys, it’s Notre Dame, it’s not too much to ask. Stop trying to rub dirt in our faces. It’s been a long time since ND has done what they’ve done today, if ever really. I, along with many others have been pretty critical and that’s ok, it’s called passion. Sorry if that passion upsets some of you, it is what it is.

frustration is fine when it is based off of facts. I think most of us on here would be upset if ND dropped the ball and didn't aggressively pursue the DC they wanted. To have a thread go on total meltdown for no reason is annoying to read. Too many "sky is falling" posters freaking out when there was no reason to and could have just waited to see what actually happened. As far as the bolded, ND counter-offered Elko a ton of money to make him one of the top paid DC's in college football believing it was a done deal from him and then he went behind their back to get more money from A&M. I am curious to see (if we ever get to) the details of Freeman's contract.

We all wanted the same thing and we got him. Some were optimistic some were pessimistic. Who gives a shit it’s a message board (as long as you don’t go full blown hate speech but that got handled). Big day. Go Irish!

Sound about this. Ever since Clemson I was worried about if we are willing to do what it takes to get us to the next level. Today proved we are.

Is his system drastically different than the Elko/Lea system?

I know that prior to this year, he was running a 4-2-5 but I figured not all are the same.

He’s shown to adapt to personnel and opponent, so that being said I’d think 4 down lineman is what to expect. We’ll have to see though

Huge hire! Welcome Mr.Freeman
Mike singer put an article saying freeman was close to flipping 2022 5* OLB CJ Hick from OSU to Cincy. Could possibly be some traction there for us now.

I like the hire because Freeman’s 3-3-5 basically becomes a 4-2-5, depending on his personnel deployment.

Instead of wondering who our ace-in-the-hole Rover is, we will now be on the search for the perfect Sniper. Nearly the same, but I think Freeman’s Sniper’s have more freedom in coverage responsibilities than JOK did. JOK would run deep with slot receivers, but Freeman’s Snipers could end up shifting to deep middle as part of coverage rotation on one play, then be shooting a gap in run support the next.

Kyle Hamilton will prosper if they find two capable safeties to be on the field with him, is what I’m saying.

Terry Joseph off to Texas, so there is one open spot for him to fill and possibly two depending on what happens with Elston.

It's so great, one of my close friends is an LSU fan (weirdo has no ties to LSU, at all) so I'm soaking in this. Ever since JaMarcus Russell did his thing against ND I've been salty.

Joseph leaving seems as much a parting of ways.

a 3-3-5 might make sense in the American Conference but with our schedule the 4-3-4 has always made more sense. Call the rover a DB and make it a 4-2-5, not a real difference. Moala and Pryor are converted DBs anyway.

Read somewhere that Freeman changed his D for Navy and cleaned their clocks. Also stopped Army pretty good this year so he's able to adjust his defense during the course of the season.

So does Mickens get all DB's now or do we continue to split? If so, does Cooks move into that role or does Freeman go get his own guy?

It's a good sign that we beat an SEC team and recent NC for a DC. But it is LSU, so let's not go thinking that we outsmarted the boys from Harvard or something :)

What's his salary, where's it ranked among DCs, is there still a big pile of money for other, high profile coaches and recruiters like big-boy college programs do it?
