What a bizarre hill to die on.

Either Gray was hurt or Freeman was sparing him the public scrutiny of being benched. Either are acceptable answers and I trust Freeman more to make that call than you. Who the fuck cares either way at this point
Agree

All I care about is nd fixing the weak link for 26. We didn’t fix it after the 24 season and that is part of the reason our season has been over for a few weeks. Can’t have the same issue 3 years in a row.

I'll try and get us back on track with Freeman and NFL - Not that this comment is going to do me any good here.

I don't think Freeman is an NFL coach at all. That doesn't mean he won't at some point leave and try to be. It's pretty clear, most if not all of the elite NFL head coaches are Xs and Os geniuses and scheme wizards. That is NOT freeman. Freeman is a motivator and an absolute elite relationship builder/recruiter. Again, not key characteristics of elite NFL head coaches. I really don't think if who we see is who freeman truly is, he'd have to significantly change to try and become a good NFL HC.

Hopefully he's smart enough to see he can make $15+mil a year for the rest of his college career, and get to be who he is. I think ND would invest more into ND like they are to continue helping his job become easier.
I'm not really here for the Christian Gray takes but this one is spot on.

Freeman is an excellent college football coach and is right on the cusp of achieving something truly great. NFL coaching is a different game. (as we've seen with lots of NFL coaches who've tried and flailed in college). Hopefully he's wise enough to know that and not give up a good thing at his first real opportunity.

Freemans speeches are meant for 17-21 year old kids....That choose hard shit doesn't work on grown men like TJ Watt/Cam Heyward Myles Garrett and or players like Antonio Brown. If he stays at ND (or college) he can be a legend. He takes the Giants job, he'll be fired within 4 years.
I think Marcus Freeman also knows these facts and would tailor his approach to his audience. You think he motivates his coaches the same way he motivates his players? I hope he stays at ND for a long time, but when he goes to the NFL, he will be successful.

Maybe, but the college coaches usually don't make the transition.

Nothing is a rumor anymore.

Michigan has egg on their face right now, and would spend upwards of $20 million a year to wipe it off.

Pretty sure he did multiple times on live TV and radio leading up to the snub
...So sign the extension. Put an end to all of these rumors, at least for this off-season. Do we really think that all of these posts about Freeman heading to the Giants are helping us get guys from the portal? Or retain borderline NFL guys who are 50/50 on staying or declaring?

So far, Greathouse and Williams are staying. Things are pointing in the right direction for Schrauth. So, yeah.

To each their own, but I do not feel any sense of entitlement as a fan that I should be hearing anything from Marcus Freeman right now. I'm actually hoping this playoff utterly fails in every possible way, so I can only imagine how he feels.

Can't help that the CFB Bro Rogan Brigade of "media" are going to have his name in their mouths to try and get attention.

His contract extension last year was announced quite literally at this time before the IU playoff game.

This timeline isn’t out of the ordinary and the beat is confident it’s done by year end.

Do you not realize that there are lawyers and agents involved? My guess is they have already agreed in principle and they are simply working on the language.

Bingo.

Get it done, get it done right, on whatever timeline is needed to make sure everything is locked in and everyone is good to go. This isn't about appeasing fans. Please, for the love of God, don't base your decisions on that.

He's currently employed, so there isn't an aspect of "time kills all deals" like they're pursuing some from the outside. He's already there, under contract. Just need to change things up and make sure everything is good to go. I believe it'll get gone.

This is what I've heard, he'll be second highest paid coach behind Smart. But I think it's now looking pretty obvious that he was at the very least offered the Giants job.

How many top names in the portal have declared a new home?

We secured one or two commitments from top recruits in the last month and most recently last week.

His boss does a highly viewed press conference where he all but says MFMF has a blank check every year AND makes sure that he knows that.

He sat on a stage in NY on live TV last week and said his priority was to recruit the #1 RB in the nation, a top 10-15 ish NFL draft pick, to come back to ND.

... Can he still flock to a new job despite all that. Sure. But he's doing a lot of affirmations that he's staying in South Bend.

Compare this feeling of angst you have with the feeling of angst leading up to when we hired him as a HC. It's a very different feeling. We're in a good spot with everything instead of the chaotic unknown of this time in 2021.

The Giants news is also Freeman driven because they literally can’t interview other NFL candidates yet (imagine having rules) + nobody gives a fuck to read a headline that Klint Kubiak is a coaching candidate. That headline dies in 1 hour.

granted he also already said on national TV he's coming back. So at this point he either is or is going to end up getting a offer he likes that he didn't have at the time. I don't think he needs to say it every single day even though some of us would prefer he did.
