Yeah that was literally the only receivers we had on the roster. And who was responsible for that recruiting? Also, they were all sophomores and a freshman. You just made an argument against yourself.
Really? Ohio State had 4 WRs play meaningful minutes last year on probably the top offense in the country.
Their 2 starting WRs were sophomores. Yes 1 was a 5 star.
We had styles coming off really good close to his Frosh year, and he didn't develop and had a brutal year. Styles was right with harrison and close to egbuka in how highly rated and recruited they were.
Egbuka and harrison hardly played as true frosh for ohio state. Colzie and Thomas were extremely sought after WR recruits that didn't have good sophomore years. (thomas had some solid games, and colzie had a momment or two)
Yes, it would have been awesome to have a ton more WRs. But we had a talented SR WR, we had 3 Talented soph wrs, and a talented frosh WR. The talent was there, the development was not.
THe issue last year wasn't our WR talent, it was not getting a QB from the portal. Kelly solved that in 2021 season, freeman didn't in 22. Bottom line. We had a bunch of highly rated QB busts in Phil, Buchner, Pyne. You fix that by utilizing the portal or grad transfers.
We could have gotten some bodies at WR from the portal too.
I'm all in for blaming kelly and staff on inconsistent WR recruiting and poor QB evaluation. But by no means should we have had such a bad offense last year even with these issues. A portal QB solves a ton of that.
Yes Daniels and Slovis didn't have great stats last year but they are better qbs than buchner/pyne. They were just surrounded by poor offenses at WVU and Pitt. Slovis was a monster at USC when he had a few really good players around him, pitt didn't have that. Daniels played really well too at times when he had talent around him, didn't have that at WV.
Pyne had an oline that became really good, some top RBs, the best TE, and young talent at WR. WE just had terrible QB play, maybe terrible qb development and not great play calling as well with Rees.
